Avatar: The Last Fuwabender*

 

 

 

 

*Note: There will be no Avatar: The Last Airbender references from this point on.*

 

An avatar, also known as profile picture, is defined via Google as "An icon or figure representing a particular person in computer games, Internet forums, etc."

 

In the case of the Fuwanovel Forums, avatars typically represent one's identity, or at least represents whatever appeals to them personally at that particular point in time (such as a favorite character, "waifu", etc).

 

Many users of this forum have different ways of utilizing their avatars and through years of extensive research I have been able to group them into the following:

  • The Eternal: users who have had a single avatar since the beginning of their creation. ie. Zalor
  • The Loyalist: users who have a single unique avatar that they change to variations of. Can change to another avatar, but typically returns to the original unique avatar ie. TarzanofVersailles
  • The Bandwagoner: users who change their avatar on a whim depending on their current mood or preferences which can change over time. This can branch to Settlers who very rarely change their avatar to a new one ie. Clephas, or Travelers who change to a new avatar relatively quickly ie. Eclipsed (pre-Louise era)
  • The Identity Crisiser: users who cycle / rotate their avatar on a frequent basis to a select few unique avatars while typically being unable to settle down on any particular one. May also become a Bandwagoner at times. ie. Kaguya-sama

 

Eternals are the most powerful class of avatar users. Their very existence is so great, that if one were to ever somehow undergo an avatar change, the resulting shockwave can very well destroy the forums (an example being the fateful Taypocalypse of '14).

 

Loyalists are the second most powerful class of avatars. They are typically very fond of their avatars and only choose variations of said avatar when changing avatars, or in the case that they do choose a new avatar, they tend to revert back to the original unique one eventually.

 

Bandwagoners (subclass: Settlers/Travelers) are the common folk. Settlers are more powerful than Travelers.

 

The Identity Crisisers are the wildcards. One can never fully determine if a Crisiser has finally settled on an avatar or if the Crisiser will continue their neverending quest for their one true avatar.

I'm apparently the Loyalist, and I'll go look to my archives and see how many of my old avatars I can find.

 

April Fools Fest. included for about a week a deviation from the norm, later going back to normal. Here are the avatars I had during that time.

I don't have that much of a developed presence or identity here on fuwa yet, but I'll probably be an Identity Crisiser. I tend to change it to a character from VNs that I'd give a 10.

I'm going to end up being a loyalist. You will only ever see an avatar change every 500 posts or so.

Wouldn't it be more of a Settler though? You don't follow a theme, you just change your avatars very rarely, right? 

The loyalist doesn't necessarily imply he rarely changes his avatar, only that it sticks to a character or theme.

Yeah, that shouldn't count. Although, what would you think of Fiddle? Whose avatar remains the same with changed clothing over time?

I honestly never noticed a difference, so it should count.

Yeah, Loyalists are where one typically tends to stick to one unique avatar (or variations of it). They may change to other avatars every now and then for special occasions, but the idea is that they tend to return to their original unique avatar.

Settlers are where you do not stick to one unique avatar, and instead choose new avatars to stick to typically for very long periods of time. Flavor of the Year, so to speak. Whereas Travelers are Flavor of the Month. Or Hour :P.

Identity Crisisers are where one cycles constantly through a few favorite avatars. Sometimes they may seem to settle, sometimes they find new favorites via traveler, but ultimately you never know when they'll change.

Dice & Fiddle are Loyalists. Eternals are absolute: Only. One. Avatar. For a lifetime. As soon as you change, even if to a variation of your original avatar, you are then stripped of your omnipotence and become a Loyalist.

Then Zalor is not an eternal, right? After all, Zalor changed his avatar to a bigger, and more pixelized version of his current one, and then back, at one point in time if I'm not mistaken.

Loyalist!  I'll never NOT have a Raichu in my avatar, unless a mod changes it against my will...

 

That would make me sad.  I can't be the resident Pokemon if I don't have the avatar...

Lol, you remember that. My current avatar is an in-between size of my original one, and the big one I used for no longer than an hour. It took slight experimentation, but I ultimately found the perfect size! I feel Eternals deserve the right to find the perfect aspect ratio. Even for us, perfection can take some time to find. ;P

I think I'm an Eternal.  Maybe?  I recently changed my avatars on VN forums to this one, at least, and I think I've used this avatar ever since I first registered on Fuwanovel.
