Confession: Hello, everybody. I'm back from my month-long break from the interwebs. It was something I decided to do after reading Digital Minimalism and deciding to adopt a more focused lifestyle that doesn't involve compulsively browsing the internet, and so far it's going well! I'm able to engage in more productive activities to cope with anxiety, I'm learning how to avoid information overload, and I'm not allowing myself to be manipulated by new-generation technology.

For the longest time I've been relying too heavily on quick fix life hacks to get my life together, and the book I read suggested that it's not enough to tackle the issues of hyper-connectivity. I need to establish a philosophy on tech so that I can maintain a greater lifestyle balance, and the book has some excellent advice in regards to that. One of those tips involved taking a 1-month hiatus from all optional technology so that I can practice better judgment for when I reintroduce them into my life.

So far, I've decided to drop facebook entirely. I don't feel particularly close to anyone there except for my family, and I can just call them when I need to talk to them. I'm going to strictly limit my use of YouTube to educational use only. I've decided I don't want to use Discord anymore either (sorry, @mitchhamilton!); I just can't bring myself to use it moderately.

I am going to restrict my time on Fuwanovel to 30 minutes and turn off all notifications as well. If I'm expecting replies to something, I'll just go directly to the thread. The issue with notifications is that they invoke addictive tendencies for me, and I just don't want to deal with them anymore. That said, I've gotten so much emotional support here that I just can't bring myself to leave completely. I wouldn't have even gone to therapy if it weren't for this very thread, and it was thanks to therapy that I even managed to start college at all. I still love the community here too. It wasn't hard to decide that I needed this forum in my life, even if it does seem a little odd for a minimalist, lol.

Anyways, I'm happy to finally be back here. I missed you guys!

(And that's it for my 30 minutes, lol. I'll be back on tomorrow~)

30 minutes is no problem when you're browsing and reading stuff on this forum, but I have on occasion taken well over two hours writing a post, so I understand how it can consume some time.

I understand how notifications can impose negative habits or tendencies. My worst behaviours related to notifications are definitely me wasting away days waiting for replies where I didn't know when they'd come. That said, I only waste days when I've days to waste. As I'm in a busy period right now I really pay very little attention to notifications.

Ah, I'm really sorry. I'm not sure how to do that, but next time I'll make sure not to spoil. It was just hard to explain, though it seems that's not the answer the person was looking for. Really sorry =(

Does anyone know if there's a post somewhere that explains how to do things like spoiler tags?  I've been trying to figure out how to do them (along with a few other things that I see other people doing), but I've gotten nowhere with it.

Though there is no such post (I believe there were some, at one point) now, I'll see about either finding an old one or making a new one explaining the editor.

For spoiler tags, all you have to do is click the eye icon in the editor.
Whenever you type a reply, you are doing so in a box, and at the top left there should be an icon that looks like an eye. If you hover over it, it'll display a tooltip saying 'Spoiler'. That is the button you need to click.

    Spoiler

It'll make a huge box appear, which you can type in.

Also, it's probably VN with most wholesome h-scenes I've ever seen so far (if you actually can say that about h-scenes :P) - I loved that. They were very satisfying emotionally, and just cute, filled with love.

Blast. All these rave reviews and now this. I can see why this VN was success. I guess I really will have to get it.

You clearly don't know anyone who actually talks in the 3rd person, it's not very common but there are people out there our age (20-30+) who do that.

No it's not inaccurate to render 3rd person self reference in English since your example is wrong.

I would be very interested in any depictions of native speakers referring to themselves in 3rd person you may have found in media or literature (by which I mean books).

This option in Rina's Stage 3 gives more affection and should be marked with EXTRA.
I tested this vs "Do you go to bathhouses often?" with the following question being "Can being a hard worker get you a raise?"
The former gave the response indicating more affection but the latter didn't.

Ah, yes. That's my bad. I've actually decided not to include the EXTRA because it is too difficult to spot them all, and they seem to vary depending on factors I couldn't quite nail down.

Yes, I had my eyes on this one already. It looks interesting, but Dreamysyu wasn't so fond of it apparently. It's higher rated than MangaGamers previous title Ozmafia though. I think I might pick it up if it's reduced in their upcoming sale.

I initially had a poor impression of the characters and interactions. That issue was resolved the longer I played.
That said, I believe the strength of this title is how much it explores the setting. Instead of telling us a single story, it lets us explore 30 different ways things could've gone. On this aspect, I can think of few games similar on this scale (Cinderella Phenomenon, also quite good, is one of them).

  7. Would you kindly use the English name in the title? You know, the one that people can actually recognise?
I understand titles that were previously fantranslated using the Japanese one, but ones that have only been advertised by their English one are unrecognisable if you stick to the Japanese one.

Also, glad their payment processor woes are ending. I'm interested in this title, though not as much as Sengoku.

I didn't dislike them initially, but they did some stuff that I find pretty despicable.

In Chika's case, it was making fun of Yamato behind his back and then how she was a total asshole towards Gakuto in his route. She didn't feel bad about it whatsoever and most likely would never have apologized if it wasn't for the fact that Gakuto then saved her from getting raped by that group of thugs. As for Kosugi, I think she's a douche for spreading those nasty rumors about Miyako and Iyo.

I'm not sure if I'll actually be able to skip the routes, since I'm a completionist to the point of it being borderline OCD. In any case, even if I do read those routes, I sincerely doubt they can redeem my opinion of those characters.

Yeah, I don't think the game usually tries to redeem said characters. They're just people, sometimes they're arseholes to those they know less well, but if you get to know them better they'll show a different side. It's not that it offers a justification for their meaner actions, it's just two sides of the characters. And maybe you find them unbearable as a result of one of their facets.

Well, it's not always a matter of literally ending with a marriage, so maybe that was a bad example. My point is that they rarely delve into much detail about what happens after the characters move on from their school life into adulthood. Even when there are after stories, they seem to usually focus more on showing off additional h-scenes rather than further developing the story.

Well, in this game you have nothing to worry about.

Can anyone confirm if Gin'iro Haruka has extensive after stories? That was one of my favorite parts of Hoshi Ori, since I don't like how romance in VNs, manga and whatnot tend to end with the characters getting married and then just a brief epilogue with a few sentences to wrap things up.

I can confirm extensive after stories, but what you say confuses me a little.

What you say is most definitely not accurate. Most VNs and manga conclude at the end of high school. Some manga go a bit further into marriage (or just start of college), but that's rare, and exactly what Hoshi Ori and Gin'iro Haruka do. I don't understand if you're asking for more than that (which I cannot confirm or deny).

  12. Hahaha, these guys are crazy. Turns out they've already translated one of these short routes. https://tsurezurescans.wordpress.com/

    10 hours ago, TexasDice said:

Compared to HoshiOri, that seems like pocket change.

This seems like an odd thing to say. Time is relative in how long people take, but length in terms of script is not. The routes in HoshiOri are on average shorter than Gin'iro Haruka's, I think. In fact, their update confirms that Bethly's route is a fair bit longer than Rikka's.

Playing Evenicle here. After the feelings and deception train it was Island, I wanted to relax and have a good time fighting with cute girls drawn by Yaegashi Nan-sensei in a colorful fantasy world. So far I've been enjoying it quite a lot. Has anyone here played it too?

Yes. Others, such as I, have certainly played it, yes.
