Mr Poltroon reacted to adamstan in What are you playing?
Yesterday I finished another route in Tenshin Ranman - this time it was Aoi's route.
It was good route - perhaps even better than Sana's. I have soft spot for childhood friends, but I think this wasn't 100% typical osananajimi route. I mean, Aoi wasn't the kind of childhood friend that would come everyday to wake him up, bring the homemade school lunch and confess her everlasting love Instead they had pretty nice friendly relationship, with healthy amount of banter. And so they struggled pretty hard to step-up to the lovers level.
The thing mentioned in the spoiler above is the story gimmick that could be seen already in various charage titles, but nevertheless they handled it pretty well. Also, when they finally overcome the difficulties, the route has quite good dose of ichaicha ❤️ - even in All-ages version. Or, dare I say, the making out in all-ages version of this route is even sweeter than the sex in the original version
So, all in all, very nice moege route.
Now I think I'll try the two mini side-routes for Mahiro and Yukari, and after that I'll tackle Ruri's route (which is recommended by various reviewers to be read last), and then finally Mikoto's route, which is exclusive to all-ages version. It seems that Mikoto is another goddess.
Also, interesting fun fact - this game seems to be the first untranslated one to be reviewed on the Joyjason's blog, and there he said that he prefers all-ages version - even though he confused the platform it was released for back then (it should say PSP, not PS2)
Judging by my experience with the game so far, I second this
I also read Micchi's and Zen's review, and my feelings about routes seem to be exactly opposite. They thought that Aoi's route was the worst, while so far it seems to be my favorite one. Hime's route that I played first wasn't bad, and the "plot/action" part about preparations for school festival was nice, but the romance part felt somewhat lacking.

Yeah, that would make nice reason for reread

Today I finished another route in Tenshin Ranman - this time it was Sana's (little sister) route.
It was great - much better than Hime's route, at least for me. How to say it... - it had proper tension, and just the right amount of drama. And quite satisfying ending.

Mr Poltroon reacted to Angela DeMille in Penlight [16+] [BxG] [Free / Donate] (Latest Release: May 10th 2025)
Hello, everyone!
February's release sees the alternate path of the Redemption storyline almost completed. We're just missing an epilogue, although there's an outline written of how it's going to go. Overall I think this story path's a pretty tough read, in keeping with the theme of the route, but a necessary contrast to the original story. I'm interested to see what people make of it!
Nozomi's Trance story path also saw a little love, with the new CG looking really pretty and facilitating a minor rewrite of the scene it's in that will make another CG possible. It's a nice feeling to be able to finally get that part of the game illustrated at last~
As ever, you can find this month's release in PC, Linux, Mac and Android versions on my Patreon, itch.io or SubscribeStar pages. I've also linked the most recent flowchart guide on the latest public news post on Patreon.
I hope you all enjoy this one! And join us next time for the finished Spiral path epilogue along with a few other goodies

Insertion of scripts are halfway done. I apologize for the snail pace but real life is a bitch.

Otaku corners aren't made. They naturally appear as a result of our obsessions, the miasma of our lust and desire corrupting the air and creating an area full of moe.

Hey, everyone! Hope we're all having a good start to the year~
In this month's public release, I shifted focus from the storyline I was struggling with and found some inspiration to write an alternate path for the Redemption storyline instead, where Kyou uses the penlight again despite knowing what it does. Can he still consider himself a good person? There's a few scenes written on this new path now as we start to find out...
As always, you can find this month's release in PC, Linux, Mac and Android versions on my Patreon, itch.io or SubscribeStar pages. I've also linked the most recent flowchart guide on the latest public news post on Patreon.
That, along with another load of fun CGs, is that for another month. I'm making good progress on the new direction I've taken so I'm optimistic about having more to show next time. So please enjoy the new release and look forward to next time~

Happy New Year to everyone, late as it may be.

Is this finally the time to use my power??
Well, I do come in peace, and if you desire that I change down my profile no sooner than January 6th my earliest convenience to do so will be on January 6th itself, so I will do so then.

I will take your word for it. And I'll also be closely monitoring you on that date. So I guess I won't be taking your word for it.

It's been 11 hours since the new year in my country, but better late than never. Anyway happy new year 2022 and here's hoping that the situation around us is keep improving, especially in regard of pandemic and of course we hopefully have a better year here.

Obviously the former.
He is DILUTING the value of Christmas with his antics; ergo, he does NOT love Christmas.

As a loser, rest assured that I will interpret your request in the most literal manner, and will certainly not revert my avatar before January 6th, as ordered. I am, however, allowing myself to assume you are referring to January 6th of 2022.
In fact, for your own assurance, I vow to not revert my avatar for the following decade, thereby guaranteeing I do not accidentally revert before the desired time.

Reading HaremKingdom. We're dangerously close to actual kamige territory, I'm laughing so much. Peak Smee content.

Mr Poltroon got a reaction from GXOALMD in What's happening with the Newton and the Apple Tree license?
Oof. I've been relatively out of the loop, so while I knew Sol Press wasn't really functioning I didn't even realise their licenses to sell the things they translated may be at stake.
In fact, this just serves to remind me of the Nukitashi limbo and go

Im not sure what you mean did you just like the humor and music only? If that's the case i can understand because it did those things really well for me the humor kinda fell off at times but overall pretty good and the music just 10/10.

Mr Poltroon reacted to Seraphim in What are you playing?
Couldn't agree more! Harem Kingdom quickly became my favorite Smee title (well, actually, one of my favorite nukige altogether, to put things in a grander perspective) and this is one of the prime reasons. Another thing worth mentioning is the fact that all of the girls are or become pretty assertive, and that's always a big plus in my book.
Lastly, I also have to praise HIkari's vulgarity, which I find equal parts funny and refreshing, since it's something we rarely see in VNs, at least to this degree.

There are times where I don't mind them and they work really well as a relationship culmination or showing new facets of a character, but my pinky honestly is always cuddling the Ctrl button.
Anyways, Visual Novels! I have honestly not found too much time for regular Visual Novels (in the last... year), spending my time more with adjacent stuff like Ace Attorney (a lot... every game... including The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles) or Danganronpa.
However, I have been playing around with a couple of gameplay Eroge. Specifically, I replayed Re;Lord in order to move onto the finally, finally released Re;Lord 2. Still in the middle of the second game but my primary impression is... The action and fast paced clicking strains my wrist if I do it too long... I actually like the gameplay, I just can't control my clicking strength and strain when trying to play it well.
But in regards to the second game, I am so far pleased! They've opened up the gameplay scope, introducing an economy system and equipment to spend it on, as well as two new types of attack. Particularly good is that they changed the UI to make each unit strong or weak to certain types of attack. I'm satisfied with the current system if for the third game they decide to focus on plot rather than improving the system.
The other thing I am doing is replaying Venus Blood Frontier to really get the most out of it before trying to move on onto the latest title Ninetails localised. My first playthrough was on easy because learning all the systems... is a bit of a chore. And I stand by that. But with some external help, I'm chugging along to actually finish it on Normal semi-effectively. Thankfully, savescum and guide hell doesn't actually deter my sense of accomplishment at all, so I'll milk that feeling.
Also... On and off playing some Rance games. I did Rance 01 way back, and then did Rance Quest; the two recent releases which I'd never played before. Now I'll probably move on to replaying 02, and seeing if I consider III or IV (the only obstacles are game design, not graphics. They actually look decently... decent.). Anyway, on and off, I guess I'll just continue replaying this series on an infinite loop until Rance X releases in 2057.
This all said, I did play one actual, traditional Visual Novel: Smee's Harem Kingdom.
Now, the premise makes it seems like a nukige. Well, if it is, it has an awful lot of slice of life for one, and it bloody well is Smee funny, too. I must first of all praise the translation team, who have just the right touch of absolute bonkers that a Smee title needs in its language. Honestly, the real gold in this title is that because of the "harem" premise you get to see all the characters interact in every route, and that's absolute gold. It's also very funny self aware so, one of my favourite visual novels like Fureraba.
Finally, trying out Your Turn to Die which... isn't a Visual Novel, I guess, but here's a spoiler box. I'm still within the first chapter:

Yeah, I get what you mean. Back when I started reading VNs, I read h-scenes in their entirety because I wouldn't want to risk missing out on anything story related, but there's usually nothing even remotely noteworthy in them so I just skip past most of them nowadays. I can imagine there being a few scenes that are worthwhile in White Album 2 though, so I might pay more attention there.

Mr Poltroon reacted to Angela DeMille in Penlight [16+] [BxG] [Free / Donate] (Latest Release: May 10th 2025)
Hi, everyone!
For the last public release of the year, we have a delightful new CG sequence featuring Hiroko that I had made as part of my development of one of her branching story paths. The "Gullible" story path has Kyou tricking his tennis-playing nemesis into going along with various uncomfortable suggestions, under the guise that his influence over her mind is more powerful than it really is. The new artwork depicts one of those suggestions playing out in fine detail, and should be set to become another favourite among Penlight fans~
Elsewhere we have a couple more CGs done for existing storylines, Robot and Doll, along with a bit of new writing for the Devotion storyline where I attempted to get a new ending scripted. I didn't succeed, but the foundations are there at least.
As always, you can find this month's release in PC, Linux, Mac and Android versions on my Patreon or itch.io pages. I've also linked the most recent flowchart guide on the latest public news post on Patreon.
And... that's your lot for 2021! Enjoy the holidays and join me in the new year where I hope to keep working on Penlight for as long as it takes to see it through!
What's New
WRITING: Added some new dialogue for Hiroko's Gullible (formerly Trickster) story path, on the choice where Kyou thinks to stop what he's doing, plus some very rough outlining for an ending along this path WRITING: Some tweaks and additions to the existing Gullible (formerly Trickster) path script WRITING: Minor edits to the Robot storyline concerning the scene where the new CG appears WRITING: Begun writing an alternate ending for the Devotion storyline, triggered by the choice "I still want you for my girlfriend" ART: Added a new CG set for Hiroko's Gullible story path ART: Added a new CG to the Robot storyline, on the fifth day ART: Added a new CG for Sayori's Doll storyline LOCALIZATION: Various edits and corrections to the existing Spanish script Word count is now over 308,500 Minor typo corrections
