SIAS
Hello Fuwa,Today I was thinking about visual novels in general and I began to question how exactly didI even get into them. I'm almost positive this has been brought before, but as I'm new here I wouldn't know.Anyways, I thought it'd be cool to hear from others of what got them started. For me, it was after watching the anime 'Oreimo'. The show itself I hate, (fuck that ending, #teamkuroneko), but it made meincredibly curious to try it out. I found fuwa and ended up picking Swan Song at random. I ended up staying upthat same night playing it because I was so amused. That's really it. But yeah feedback would be really cool and appreciated. Thanks.

Darbury
I fell down the slippery slope of VN-like games:Phoenix Wright --> Hotel Dusk --> Danganronpa --> 999 --> Ever17 --> everything else Canicheslayer

Bolverk
A slow development of getting more and more into manga and anime. After I saw the world god only knows anime and read the manga. I wondered what these galges were. So I ended up trying them. Long story short. Ended up learning jp to read porn because of it. Flutterz
Saw a Katawa Shoujo review on a video game forum I frequented, I only got into anime after VNs, interestingly enough.
InvictusCobra
A few friends got me into anime, my gateway animes were basically borderline hentai Ecchi harems and stuff. Searched for more Ecchi stuff that was considered 17 or 18+, found the Shuffle! anime, saw that and went to find out more about it. Saw that it was a "Visual Novel", went and searched about that. Later, the Internet Gods got me the original game (TLed by MG) and read that. The rest is history.
Valmore
Saw a Katawa Shoujo review on a video game forum I frequented, I only got into anime after VNs, interestingly enough.Oddly enough, this about describes how I got into visual novels. I was reading around on a break and read an article about it and decided to give it a shot. It spiraled from there.
Soulless Watcher
Basically Steins;Gate, my sis made me watch it (the first anime that I recognized as anime) and I liked it soo much that I read the original visual novel right afterwards. Zenophilious
Wait...Swan Song was your first VN? That must've been a real noob-friendly experience xDSaw a Katawa Shoujo review on a video game forum I frequented, I only got into anime after VNs, interestingly enough.Pretty much what happened with me, except I was searching around for freeware games and found KS. I'd already been watching anime and reading manga for years, so that wasn't the cause. I'd actually seen it mentioned before in several places around the internet, but never checked it out before then. I read and watched "Oh My Goddess" but that's really about it before getting into visual novels. I really liked how they reminded me of the old Choose Your Own Adventure books I read as a kid, only with well-drawn visuals.
TexasDice
What got me into visual novels? I've always liked the Ace Attorney series, ever since I got my first DS and I also kept the BlazBlue story mode as a pleasant experience in my mind. About a year ago, I got sick of todays movies and video games. I feel like nobody puts any effort into writing a good story or believable characters these days (I know a fair bit about writing and analyzing). Then, someday when I was bored and looking for porn, I found Katawa Shoujo. I did not find porn that day, but I found what I've been looking for: A Story and characters I can relate to and actually care about. So, after that I've read other visual novels and discovered my passion for them (and romance stories). It's been over a year, huh?
monkeysrumble
I got a recommendation to try out Fate/Stay Night. I knew about VN's from Oreimo and The World God Only Knows but I always assumed that they were just porn and thought they were a bit too weabooish for me. Well here I am I guess. I also read Phoenix Wright a long time ago but at the time I had no idea that it was a visual novel since I didn't even know the concept. Valmore
it was a logical consequence when i first started becoming socially arkward, resulting in me becoming socially arkward the more... You should not say such things, sempai. Let us go to the roof and have our boxed lunch. (And seriously, every VN I've read so far involves going to the roof of a buiding...) shadowolf64
Probably a combination of Persona 4 and running out of anime and manga with what I was looking for. After Persona 4 I started looking at VNs as something similar and then when I ran out of anime and manga I wanted to watch/read I went back to VNs and found some that really piqued my interest. There was something else that got me into them but I can't remember the reason I had for it now... Mugi
I played a lot of Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life when I was younger, it's one of my favorite games. I really liked the relationship aspect of the game, and all these years later I finally had the idea.."I wonder if there are any other games with dating sim elements to them". Before I knew it I was looking at a "Best Free Visual Novel's" list, and didn't know what to start with. But just then, I saw Katawa Shoujo, advertised by the CG when Hanako is playing pool. Hanako herself interested me visually, and that CG drew me in. I marathoned it in a few days and was completely hooked. To this day it's still my favorite CG, and Hanako is still my favorite girl in all of VN's.
solidbatman
I read Ever17 because it was on a Top 100 RPG lists and I was like, "Huh this shit is alright" so I decided to read more VNs and now I am a pitiful ball of regret, hate, and salt.
