Dorama of the Year 2000-IV Fall - Style!
Only six pieces again, and no masterpiece again. I absolutely refuse to make only title that I initially finished winner by default this time though. Had to give both remaining contestants another few episodes to decide. Between family half-comedy and not especially interesting workplace comedy I like latter more as kids problems get tiresome with time - winner is Style!

Jinno Sakurako grew up in a very poor family and is thus determined to marry a rich man so that she will never have to go through poverty ever again, and is named the "gokon queen" in her quest to find her man. Nakahara Osuke is a brilliant academic (Fields prize winner - Nobel Prize equivalent in Mathematics) who gave up his studies to take over his deceased father's fish-shop. They meet through a doctor's "gokon" (group date) and she falls in love with him under the mistaken assumption that he is a very rich man.
The difference between kdrama and jdrama is that jdrama only undertakes horrible concepts when can get awesome actors so that people could stay at least for those actors. Poor primitive plot, but I somehow made it to the end despite all odds - that's a miracle with all the deus ex machina thrown.

He's the ultimate in cantankerous dads! Internist Kanzaki Kanichi, father of three, is a meddlesome know-it-all. He lectures not only his family and patients, but even strangers' children, and young lovers kissing on the street. His kids are on the verge of rebellion, but fortunately, their mother Miyako keeps them mollified.
I've developed a serious dislike towards Tamura Masakazu and his eternal authority position roles. But this one is his worst among the worst, truly unbearable...

Onishi Katsuo is a 35-year-old carpenter and former college football player who sees life almost in the same balance as a football game (guts and glory along with team spirit). One day he learns that his friend (a college football teammate) was killed when his house burned down. His friend's wife is in a coma and his four kids are now homeless, Eguchi has the children live with him (in his one room apartment) above his bosses home. At first, the children are still traumatized by what has happened, but if anything can help them regain hope, it's Katsuo's caring and energetic spirit.
Better than expected, but I still can't answer why I should countinue to watch it. Initially wanted to drop it after third episode, but gave it couple more episodes as a second chance - all those kids problems weren't quite interesting.

Someone has been stealing money within the company and the fingers are pointing to seven beautiful secretaries. Each who look so pure (well some of them) but at the same time, each can have a motivation for stealing the money. The company hires Ayumu and Go to find out who is stealing the money.
Another foolish setting for those who did not have enough of Shomuni. Nonsense under cover of pseudoinvestigation.

It's about life in a department store. Its stars Motoki Masahiro and Takeuchi Yuko. Motoki heads a personal shopper's department. This department recommends shopper's what to wear at no extra charge. The management wants to remove the department so people in the special department tries it's best not to be removed. Lots of humor, sometimes funny and heartwarming.
Workplace SOL comedy, huh. Little in the story department, but personalities and interactions are nice, so it probably deserves a better score, but at times like this if I don't want to continue I just don't.

Ryo is a former professional boxer who becomes a collector for a loan shark. He grew up in an orphanage in Okinawa Prefecture with heroine Haru, Natsumi, an aspiring actress, and two others. One of them is now a lawyer who has had to bail Ryo out and the other a lucky young woman adopted by a rich family. Haru, too, was adopted and has never once left the island where she grew up. When her adopted mother dies, she decides to go to Tokyo to find the old group. Being naive to the ways of the modern urban world, she almost ends up being sold off into the sex industry as soon as she sets foot on Tokyo's fair shores, but Ryo comes to her rescue.
It goes so slow and pretty much nothing happens ... water and more water... guess could go on if liked leads or their roles, but I don't.
