  1. Hey there! To celebrate my Visual Novel Engine making it to Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/665040/Visual_Novel_Engine) I will be hosting a visual novel creation competition. Visual Novel Engine is an app designed to help anyone create their own visual novel for free without any programming skills. The rules are pretty simple, help the development of Visual Novel Engine by creating and submitting a visual novel using the engine itself. The winners will be able to put up their entire visual novel as DLC on Steam (free or paid). The Visual Novel Engine is in Early Access, so i'm also looking for testers that can help improve it. Thanks for reading.

  2. This entire statement is incorrect. Your hatred for Steam doesn't really make sense. You're basing your assumptions as if "Steam" or "Valve" want to take over the market. If you watch some of the Valve staff interviews you'll realize that they only just recently started correlating a growth in visual novels on the platform. Also, Steam itself has nothing to do with developers choosing to put their visual novels on Steam. If you don't use Steam, you'll need a better reason than just "they're trying to make more money". Since that's every company ever. I seriously don't get your delusion in thinking that Steam (a digital media delivery platform) is somehow bad for VN's in the west. It's a distribution platform. Not a publisher. Also, my engine is free. How is steam supposed to capitalize on a legally bound free application? They can take their share of profits from any paid title and that's more than fair considering the exposure Steam provides. Anyway, if you know what Ren'Py is which i'm assuming you don't based on what you just said, you'd realize it's very old, not cross compatible and not translation friendly. Plus there's no central place to catalog AND PLAY Ren'Py made projects directly without more manual work. Ren'Py is literally an engine that requires programming knowledge. It's in the name of it. "Python" is the language you need to know if you want to do anything good with Ren'Py. My visual novel engine requires no prerequisite language. Just a simple drag and drop tagging system. It can do everything Ren'Py can plus it has a tonne more features that make it easier for developers to create, and easier for readers to play. Also yay! Trending on Steam:

  3. My ride through Kazana Island ended today after 34 hours and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Playing Order: Hazuki>Noeri>Io>Himari>Ame Route rating: I'll actually refrain from rating the routes as they all have their good points. However, I will say that Ame's route left the biggest impact on me, therefore I consider it to be the best one. It even moved me, a guy who rarely cries, to tears. Girls: Another tough choice for me here as they're all likeable. If I had to pick my favorites it would be Noeri and Ame. Now, as for things I had a few issues with. spoilers maybe? I had a good time overall and I'll definitively check out the Fandisc if it ever gets translated.

  9. Let's be honest. When I read my first VNs (old JAST games, True Love, May Club), It was for the porn element ( At the time, I didn't know what a VN was ). Two or three years ago (officially, I entered the world of Visual Novel in april/may 2014), I tried some nukiges (from Mangagamer) like Eroge! or Imouto Paradise : I didn't like it that much; from now on, just like Jartse, I see porn as a bonus (sometimes it's a real plus. Yume Miru Kusuri, for example). So, back to the question : What do I seek from VNs? Globally, I want an addictive story (rom-com, pure comedy, drama, charage...Whatever ! My tastes are rather varied). However, I must confess a weakness : corrupted by years and years of mangas and Jrpgs, I 'm too attracted to classic cute/kawai/moe character designs. Too often, my choices of VN were influenced by this flaw (ex : I'm reading Dal Segno)...Believe me : this fatal inconsistency was responsible for many disappointements

  11. Hi everyone ! The journey is over, and at last, I can announce The Last Birdling’s release date. Here it is:September 1st, 2017! The Last Birdling’s Steam page can now be accessed: http://store.steampowered.com/app/629430/The_Last_Birdling/ Recently, I have started to follow upcoming games that I want to keep on my radar. If you are willing to do the same for The Last Birdling, I would be so grateful. The “follow” and “add to your wishlist” buttons are available on the Steam page. I will be active on the community board, so I hope to hang out with you there. As the release date approaches, I plan to post a new article every week. These articles will be available on the Steam page as well as my Facebook, Tumblr and all the other usual suspects. My social media links can be found here:http://invertmouse.comI am thankful to those who messaged in to say they fell in love with Bimonia and Tayo after the demo. After hundreds of development hours, those two have grown lives of their own. Once the game is released, I hope their story can be shared with as many people as possible.Thank you!

What do you seek from VNs?

I want enjoyment, but unfortunately not many VNs give me enjoyment anymore as it's a lot of copy pasta.

  14. How it went so far, without spoiling anything big: Protag arrives at setting and faffs around. Nothing happens for 4 hours and we meet all the characters in drawn out scenes. 5-6 hours in, the OP finally plays and the protagonist has to nominate a girl for a plot event. This is finally when it starts to get going, but for some reason it takes another 5 hours to resolve this and therefore the common route. After that, the common route is over and hopefully, the actual character routes bring their own substance into play (this is where I am currently reading) --- On an unrelated note, listen developers. I don't mind late H-scene content, only a single ero-scene per character or actually no ecchis at all. But,

  15. Da Capo 3 was not that great at all. I was expecting something far superior in story, drama, and humor compared to DC 2. Boy, was a let down. I am curious if this will be better.

  16. JAST USA does not exactly have the best marketing strategies in place but that is possibly do to not wanting overexposure. It's hard to really know what a company is thinking when they are creating material to try and help sell a product but JAST is probably one of the few places that actually bothers to create material and just doesn't say anything about it. The following is a compilation of as many JAST USA officially made websites that I was able to find both to share with you as well as discuss a bit more in depth. Honestly some of these you might actually be surprised exist in the first place; I will be updating this first post whenever a new website is created and if I happened to miss any please let me know so I can update this page accordingly. A number of these websites have trailers created by Primus Animations which are specifically made for the english market often adapted from the original japanese trailer. I for one ended up purchasing Hanachirasu when I did specifically because of their trailer. So props to them for making some cool trailers. With my rambling ceasing let's begin looking at the websites (and subsequently the trailers on the websites) and then when they are all listed let's talk about them. Shiny Days: http://shinydays.us/ Super Sonico: Communication with Sonico: http://sonicomi.com/index.html Flowers-Printemps: http://flowersgame.com/ Raidy III: http://raidy.us/ Starless: http://starless.us/ Hanachirasu: http://hanachirasu.com/ Littlewitch Romanesque: http://littlewitch.us/index.html Yumina the Ethereal: http://yumina-the-ethereal.com/ Steins;Gate: http://steins-gate.us/ Aselia the Eternal: http://aselia.us/ School Days: http://schooldays.us My Girlfriend is the President: http://mygirlfriendisthepresident.com/ Demonbane: http://demonbane.us/index.html Moero Downhill Night Trilogy: http://moeronight.com/ Yukkuri Panic: Escalation: http://yukkuripanic.com Princess Waltz: http://princesswaltz.com/ Cosplay Fetish Academy: http://cosplayfetishacademy.com Seinarukana: The Spirit of Eternity Sword 2 Nympho Sensei Ryoko My hopes for the future: It would be nice if they actually bothered marketing these a bit better admittedly half of these are able to be found on their website although a few of them you have to scrounge around to find. It's a decent step. I think the most recent trailers are definitely a step in the right direction as far as trailers go. I think that JAST really needs better marketing of it's actual gameplay visual novels. The websites have basic information and are generally decent overall. I did notice a few of the websites seem to have nothing until you scroll down a bit which I think is rather bad design at least put something there (littlewitch romanesque is one of the examples I'm talking about). So which of these websites JAST has created is well the best designed and what additional features would you like to see on their websites in the future? Personally for me I think having links to reviews or possibly allowing user reviews (similar to mangagamer) would be a good step to take with these websites. A little bit more user interaction as well as keeping the websites up to date with any new details (School Days, My girlfriend is the President, Raidy III, and Aselia the Eternal should all have links to their sequels, prequels, and fan-discs). One specific detail that more of their websites need to have in the future is a goodies page with the ability to download wallpapers and other cool little things like a lot of the Japanese websites have. School Days is one such website that they actually did have the wallpapers for. The main website on the other hand is currently lacking a proper forum (the way it currently works is absolutely horrendous), the website itself is rather not fully up to date...it would be nice to get progress updates a minimum of once a month considering we sometimes go a lot longer than that without any type of news. The JAST Devlog (tumblr) page is a step in the right direction but some aspects of that should be carried over to the main website in my opinion. The website also needs to let people know when there are sales...there is a sale currently going on and I could not find any information about it on their main website outside of the fact that the prices have been reduced. It doesn't say when it ends, what percentage off, any potential deals, etc... The website could use a bit of work...but JAST is not the only english visual novel company that has some major issues with its website but that will be for another post. Just my opinion, and as new websites get created I'll add them to this list do let me know if I happened to miss any for JAST.

  17. Just finished Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, which was actually really good. My expectations were pretty low given that 99% of what I heard about it on the internet was "OMG thicc", so thanks for the pro tip, @Jun Inoue. I'm a sucker for sweet, positive stories with quirky, unique characters, and this delivered that in spades. Edit: I picked up Ping Pong on the recommendation of a reformed weeb friend who said it's one of the greatest shows he's ever watched ("Shows. Not anime."). Three episodes in, and I have to admit, it's looking to be pretty damn good.

The 6th movie of Kara no Kyoukai should have its "Garden of Sinners" thing renamed to "Garden of Azaka Moe", dis gal was just a super background character up til now and then BAM main lead for this movie xD. Alotta people discreditted this movie for being kinda lackluster ehh especially after the badass 5th movie But uhh I'm a moe kinda guy so it was pretty fun :3
