  1. I agree with a lot of these, but I’m too lazy to list them all. I’ll add one that only applies to OELVNs: Less use of Japan as a setting. This includes everyone having Japanese names in a western school. JVNs have that setting covered. If we want Japan, we’ll play ones from Japan. Show us what you can do with your country and culture.

  2. Visual novel developers and companies across Japan saw this Fuwa thread and, inexplicably, decided the wishes in this thread absolutely must be granted. And thus it came to be that Fuwanovel eliminated the entire medium of visual novels.

  3. Hello everyone, I am Chris J. Cinders but feel free to just call me Chris. (Don’t worry it’s a pseudonym, I didn’t use my actual name, haha). I became a huge fan of VN’s after I realized nearly all of my favorite anime were based off of them. Since then I’ve read a good deal of them, my favorite probably being either Shuffle or One: To the Radiant Season. I am also a writer and have written more than my fair share of screenplays and stories. I’ve completed one short VN so far called Mage Wars. Currently I am working on a new one tited Falling Star. I look forward to getting to know all of you!

  5. Heh, I said I'd get the chapter out on time this week, but I'm afraid I'll have to postpone this one to Monday as well. Been out with my family all weekend celebrating my Mom's birthday, so I did not have a lot of time to write. I think this chapter will be one worth the wait, though! Not only has a user been picked two weeks in a row, but we'll also be seeing two moderators dish it out this week! Look forward to it ~~

  6. This game contains explicit sexual images with MALE/MALE relationship! It is suited only for audiences over 18 years old. Harry Potter and the Mysterious Thief part I is a fan game which takes place in Harry Potter universe. You play as Harry Potter, who is now working as an Auror. Harry has to work on the Mysterious Thief's case together with Draco Malfoy and Ron Weasley. During the investigation he develops romantic feelings towards his former school enemy - Draco. Since this is the first part there is only one ending, but it is important how you will get to it. Features One to two hours of gameplay; Five CGs; Two NSFW CGs. I've put a lot of love and care in this game during development, so hope you will enjoy playing it!

    Hi!

Hello, everyone! I'm Fin and I'm a writer by trade, but currently stepping away from writing for the foreseeable future, to work on my childhood dream, which is working on video games I live near Shanghai, but I'm moving to Ho Chi Minh at the end of June and then I'm off to Taipei in December, hopefully for a while. (My SO is an international school teacher, so we kind of wander around the world like pirates) I'm a big fan of otome games, my first one being Angelique on the GBA...(haha, I can't believe how old I am). I used to be a console player, but have recently gotten into computer VNs and otome games. Anyways, I'm really glad to be here and I hope to get along with everyone!

    Hi!

Haha, as of late the indie writing/romance community has become super toxic, so I've kind of just thrown my hands up in the air and went "EFF THIS" and have gone a different route. Luckily, otome games/VNs are very words-intensive, so right now, it really doesn't feel like my work day is much different than usual. Except there's a lot more arting. The great thing is, now, I don't feel guilty about drawing because I can justify it but saying "It's for the game." So, yes, I am working on a game! It's called PS I Love U and as it's my first foray into making a game, it's not a terribly ambitious game, with four routes, 3 romanceable characters, maybe 50-60k max word count. What about you? Are you working on a game? Thank you for the welcome! I'm super excited As an older woman who started playing VNs and otome games almost 20 years ago, I've always wanted to design my own game. So, here goes nothing! Yo, yo, yo, Fiddle!

  11. Glad it un-delivered as I promised. You'll be hard pressed to ever find anything that shit again. I think the only thing in anime I've ever rated lower was Peeping Life which I couldn't even sit through one episode of, but that never had high aspirations whereas Hand Shakers did. What a legend.

  12. 4Kids used to be a American television production company. They licensed a bunch of anime back in the 90s/00s They typically heavily censored and cut content for children. Yugioh is one of their most infamous licensing debacles. Yugioh Abridged constantly parodied 4kids. Apparently they are now bankrupt.

  14. Half-way through Danganronpa. The story is pretty intriguing, but I have to say that some of the mini-games in the trials have annoyingly vague and misleading phrasing and answers. Maybe it's a translation issue, or maybe it's because I'm playing the hardest difficulty. Many times I would know the answer to a specific part in a trial, but it took me several tries to figure out how to "communicate" it to the game through it's vague-ass answers. Also, while I thought the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th trials were good (that's as far as I am), I thought the 1st trial was pretty crappy: Despite my complaints I am enjoying the game overall.

Duuuude, you're serious with this? Not that I disagree, but that's why I would never go to a hooker (and why I generally avoid porn - I don't think there's something inherently wrong about watching it, but it just doesn't sit well with my worldview - and seemingly with yours as well, if you got disturbed by a really attractive woman being a sex worker).

  16. I've just finished Hand Shakers, intrigued by @ittaku's anti-recommendation. And boy, it did deliver in so many ways! Barfy animations with weird, motion-sickness-inducing perspective, horrible CGI, over-the-top, tropy characters, nonsense motivations, etc, etc. The wannabe idol character was one the most horrifying things I've seen in anime recently, especially when the animators tried to show her "dancing". Oh, and random BDSM in the first episode. And the main characters having to hold hands all the time during the first few episodes, even on the toilet. Brilliant. If anyone can't tell by this point, I really like over-the-top, horrible anime. Most bad anime are just extremely boring harem/ecchi stuff though. But I'll always remember Hand Shakers as one of those rare, genuinely amusing disasters. <3 EDIT: Oh, and the opening song has a bit of charm to it.

    What are you playing?

The only not main route I completed is Ayamine, and, to be honest, it's simply bad, at least for my taste, and the fact that I read it before any other route may be one of the reasons why I dislike Extra. But, yeah, apparently, it's the most important side route, so I'd recommend at least trying to read it. Marimo's route, from what I understand, basically consists of one comedic h-scene. Tama's route matters somewhat, but definitely less than Ayamine's. I read one of the normal ends, which, apparently, has the same start as her route but basically ends right after that. The only people I heard of who finished Chizuru's route are the localization team.

    What are you playing?

The routes for Sumika and Meiya absolutely need to be played in order to fully enjoy Alternative. Miki's route and Ayamine's route do not have much bearing on Alternative, though they do provide some background info for 2 side characters in Alternative (Sagiri,Miki's dad). The other routes are just unnecessary. Since you will be moving on to Unlimited, I recommend playing just one route for one of the students (I chose Meiya since she's my fav along with Sumika). Yuuko's route is optional. As for Alternative, route choice doesn't really matter.

  20. I would like to see less situations where locking into a heroine's route means the complete removal off all the other heroines from the game for the duration of that route. The stories can be unique while still involving all of the characters...it would also make the routes for less-liked heroines more enjoyable imo because you'd still get unique interactions with the heroine(s) you are a fan of. I'd also like less VNs that end right when you end up becoming intimate with a heroine. Less of, "we love each other, let's have sex, the end" situations and more VNs that go into what happens in later stages of relationships beyond when you start dating. Oh...less moege high school VNs in general...for the love of god

  21. Less pointless H-scenes. For example, Kara no shoujo and F/SN has these sex scenes that add nothing to the plot. At least make them skippable in dialogue, like the character can just say "no thanks." Ever17, Higuarshi, Clannad, etc do just fine without these sex scenes. If you're a horndog, then at least have the sex scenes be consequential. For example, Like the MC gets in trouble for fornicating.

    Never happened to you?

To go back to the original question, why are person X in porn? I will assume it's likely for the same reason as why women becomes prostitutes. There is obviously the case of needing the money. I read in the newspaper about a porn directory who had been flooded by applications from women, who had the choice between porn and losing the house. He blaming the politicians for creating a situation (specific new law) where he was unable to find suitable candidates, but that it was actually worse for the women, who had ended up being that desperate. He didn't talk kindly of the politicians who insisted that nobody would end up in a situation like that. Interestingly he declared he could not use women, who didn't want to do it, though I'm not certain all directors will have moral issues in that regard. Then there is the people, who will do anything for money. It can easily be in addition to a normal job, meaning they end up with two incomes. This allows financing a lifestyle, which would be out of reach for the majority of people. It could also be because if they can pull off not doing any other job, they can be allowed to be lazy. Crime is another "popular" solution to reach an otherwise unreachable lifestyle. The last reason is sex. I saw a study at some point that some women can't get enough sex. Apparently if you grow up being told that is your purpose in life and to be a good girl, you do stuff, then some of them stick to that approach as adults. Prostitution is then a tool to get 10 men each day and the fact that it provides an income is just a bonus. There are other examples of upbringing gone wrong, like it's cute that all the adults have to look at a little girl dancing at every single gathering. It can then happen that they are displeased with not being in the center when they grow up and then to get back to get people to look at them, the tool becomes to drop cloth. That's spot on. Some people apparently don't like/get the direct message, but it's accurate. There are plenty of good girls out there, but there certainly are a number of demons and mentally disturbed ones. Men too as it's not about gender. I have to say that I understand girls complaining about creeps who tries to pick them up. I tried a girl approaching me like that. Well she didn't even try to pick me up, she basically just ordered me to sex and I was like "who are you?". It was at school and I didn't even know her name or class or anything. Later I learned who it was and she was basically just fishing for penis regardless of owner. It was actually rather disturbing to experience that. Also whore basically means somebody who has sex for money. It fits the porn industry and there actually is an overlap because some porn "stars" also work on the street and that way acts as gateway for STDs. Not sure if they are high ranking, but it's happening and is apparently a big problem. People yell about being free and just do it. Pick up a new girl every Friday night and whatever. However people acting like that are usually very loud, but not so big in numbers. I saw a survey on a college where they asked for sexual partners for the last year. Not only was the most common answer 0, more than 90% had 2 or less and if the person had two, both partners only had one. One was way more common than two. The remaining less than 10% were... well active. If one of them had an STD, they could all have it because it seemed like they swapped partners or just basically took what they could get. Another survey was quoted in Futari Ecchi (read it if you haven't. It's one of the best mangas I have seen, though it's probably targeting age 25+). It asked adult women how many sexual partners they had had within their lifetime. More than half said 2 or less (0 not uncommon). Almost everybody had less than the average because the average was totally screwed by a few who had astronomical numbers. So yeah there are women, who apparently want to do anything for sex, but they are most certainly a minority. Then again people doing porn are also a minority.

  23. I think it depends a bit. If the game wants you to get immersed and identify with the protagonist, giving you such small, non-consequential choices has its uses. It gets you involved and lets you shape the main characters' attitude to your liking. The first Sunrider does it well in my opinion, while the choices you make in most cases don't have any bearing on the ending or on what happens in the second game, they just get you emotionally involved in the moral dilemmas and challenges the protagonist faces. The second game went to shit in my opinion also because it took away that feeling of control, even if it was always illusory. I hate meaningful blind choices and ones that are completely counter-intuitive much more than I dislike even the most meaningless/pointless ones.
    1 point
  24. I mean choices that have absolutely no reason to be there, maybe changing one or two lines of dialogue, but not changing the route/ outcome in any way. A good example of this is Katahane. The game is full of choices, but 90% have absolutely no use, and only make tiny changes to the dialogue. Choices are there to change the outcome of the story, so pointless ones rubs me the wrong way.

  25. Oh, I forgot my biggest gripes: Less invisible characters. Not drawing so much as a portrait for a character the MC talks with for ten minutes is plain lazy. Less background reuse. If a route ends with a huge gathering of people in the streets, showing me the same sparsely populated road that I already saw on day one is lazy and disappointing.

  26. Less 'average guy' protagonists, regardless of age or setting. Less meaningless (doesn't progress the story or develop the characters) slice of life. Less unreasonably violent tsundere. Less osananajimi heroines (side-characters are fine, though) Less making a great setting then not using it in any of the heroine paths. Less meaningless/random h-scenes. Less meaningless choices/false player agency. Stop having school as the main setting for 90% of all VNs. Less romance as the pinpoint focus of a VN (don't get rid of it, just stop making it 90% of the focus of most VNs) No more ladder-style story structure (ex: G-senjou no Maou, Hatou, Eustia, etc)

  28. I see a pattern in this and it's more general than what it seems at first glance. It's about the classic "you have to think like me". There are plenty of examples of this. It's very clear in politics where you can be called deplorable for just disagreeing on which politician to vote for. There are however lots of examples unrelated to politics. Few examples related to psychology. Introvert vs Extrovert While introverts have a high degree of "other people can do as they like", extroverts have a tendency to expect other people to act extroverted and they announce whenever they think somebody doesn't behave according to "extrovert guidelines". If a person have no interest in being the center of attention at a party or even showing up, that person is declared to be a loser. The same goes for a person with too few friends because apparently having 1000 friends on FB is a goal in itself. Introverts tend to care less for how cloth looks, but wearing something, which was the fashion 10 years ago is so not accepted by some other people. Asperger syndrome This diagnosis is likely to be removed in the next revision of official diagnoses due to being applied to people it was never intended for. However if we look at the core criteria for this diagnosis, it aims towards people (primarily children), which are different. On top of usually being introverts, they don't like crowded places like schools, mainly due to the noise level. They have a tendency to have a major interest, which they like to study, usually alone. This interest can be anything, but is often mechanical in nature (trains is a common interest). They don't mind studying insignificant details for hours and they build up a wast knowledge of the area and you can ask them anything and they usually remember. The problem with this description is that particularly the interest part of it fits most engineers, which has given it the nickname "the engineering disease". Most engineers tend to like studying "insignificant details", like engine parts, software algorithms, math problems etc. All those problems seems to be unimportant to psychologists, which by now has labeled them as deviation from perfection. One example would be Joseph Whitworth. He became obsessed with measuring small distances and in 1840 he achieved being able to measure a millionth of an inch. Just wanting to measure something too small to be seen provides a not insignificant score on the AS scale. He then proceeded to make a standard for screws, which made them interchangeable and it's this thing, which allows you to go to the hardware store and buy screws and bolts and know they fit whatever you need just by reading the numbers on the box. He also started making guns where barrel and bullet fits in size, making them long range and accurate enough to allow aiming in a way we understand as aiming. Somebody else quickly took his method of measuring and applied to it making cylinders and pistons for steam engines. This almost eliminated the problem of leaking steam around the pistons, which made them a lot more fuel efficient. This in turn changed railroads from something in coal field areas to a global thing because now they were beating horses in operation costs even in countries without coal. The importance of Joseph Whitworth is likely not possible to over estimate (but have you even heard of him? I didn't in school). The reason why I bring him up here is because if he had been born today, he would have been labeled as Asperger and put in counseling and possibly medication to make him normal. He would need protection against his own weird ideas. There is no room for being different anymore. Einstein has been labeled with Asperger, though luckily not until long after his death, meaning it didn't cause him any problems. Anime/VN/Japan I see little difference in this. There is some guy, who doesn't understand and doesn't try to understand what he is talking about and then he flames people for having interests, which are different from his interests. That he brings up childish as a psychologist (if he is that) is interesting because according to psychology, there are 3 categories: child, adult, parent and each person consist of something from each. Since only the child is able to have fun, people with little or no score in child aren't able to have fun at all. In order to be happy, it's important to have a non-insignificant score in child while at the same time it should not over shadow the others as that would make the person irresponsible. I wouldn't call it childish to follow orders. In fact it's actually a grown up thing to do. For instance there is a law stating that cars should drive on the right side of the road (or left depending on where you are). A child would go "me first, me not listen" and go everywhere while grown ups will understand that it's part of a greater plan to avoid traffic jams. You become one piece in a giant puzzle and you understand that it is in the interest of everybody including yourself that all pieces match perfectly. Another example would be to obey queues when going through a door. If you want to skip ahead in the queue, you risk ending up in a jam because too many people are in the door at once. The talk about Japan and WW2 makes no sense whatsoever. If true, then explain why what he claims to be a result of losing WW2 was present even more strongly in the 1930s than it is today. I wouldn't put too much into "somebody on the internet" flaming people out of ignorance and intolerance. The people he talks about do exist, but he puts it in way too general terms. Going back to the car example, it would be like saying people drive cars because they want to drive around a block repeatably honking the horn to annoy somebody. It has likely happened in rare cases, but it's not a general trait of car owners.

  29. It's not a derogatory statement about women. Porn stars are whores, that is literally their job. I am not at all implying that all women are whores, but whores are by definition whores. Think about it this way, would you want your sister or mother to work in the porn industry? Probably not right? Because it is degrading. Not just for them personally, but for their whole family. I was also implying that just because a woman is beautiful does not mean that her personality or morality matches that of her face. Good girls with moral standards deserve respect. Hell, the same is true of guys as well. I think one of the most dangerous mistakes guys can make is to project their idealization on a girl, and ignore the truth about her. It is misguided to idealize women like Medieval poets did. These are my views at least. Feel free to disagree or agree, but that is how I feel about the subject.

  32. It's not a problem of opinions - attractive people have certain opportunities that other's don't. Obviously, being attractive have its downsides, but many many more upsides and woman that are naturally very attractive usually have career choices open to them that are much more appealing than porn (which is, after all, heavy physical work with myriad of health risks and heavy social stigma involved). That's why you can notice that, in general, porn actresses are either average at best, or after so heavy plastic surgery that you can't really tell how they looked before. I've also noticed more attractive actresses sticking to solo sexcams or lesbian porn, as both are much less hazardous. There are exceptions of course, just as there are many porn actresses that weren't driven into the industry by a poor material situation or other circumstances that took away their chances for a "better" career. But just like with prostitution, we shouldn't romanticize it too much (even if I also disagree with the general sentiment of the OP).

  36. Not really, when someone really good looking is doing porn I'm only happy that I get to enjoy their full glorious naked beauty in best way possible besides in person. If only ugly people were doing porn I doubt it would be much of an industry, of course what is ugly is somewhat subjective.

  37. I have had similar thoughts, although not exactly the same. I don't really consider working in porn a "bad end", sure it may be for some, but I just see it as another job with a unique set of perks and disadvantages. I do wonder how working in this industry affects the "normal" parts of daily life. Like how much of the "equipment" can be written off as work expense in their taxes?
    1 point
  38. To be fair, we are talking about an industry that operates pretty much exclusively on the basis of appearance. As for your question KainLegacy, I'm not really surprised. It could be dire financial straits. It could be personal problems. It could be a display of confidence, or an outcry, or a way of rebellion. We don't know, because like most other professions and occupations in life, people adopt different lifestyles for different reasons. Who are we to judge so long as they're not hurting anyone?
    1 point
  39. It makes you wonder why someone so beautiful was doing that kind of job? Interesting.
