  1. I went and registered in order to comment on a few things concerning this website. It's a pretty good collection of information, especially for people that aren't much into visual novels yet, but even for veterans like me it has a nice accessibility aspect and so I'd like to see the site improve. I'll go on a list of things and mention whatever I think of about them. Let's start with the general tabs. Home I don't think I want to comment on this one. I've never really looked at it anyway. Browse My bookmarked page. The presentation is excellent. If I'd change it, I'd give the list enough width for a third column, but it's not a problem. Also page links on top and bottom plus page numbers would be good. Could use more sorting options, genres etc. While I don't care myself, I can imagine a lot of people would like to sort All-Ages. Where the fuck is the search function? The boxes themselves are also pretty good. The company name and some info on the patch would be good to have up front too but that would need to be added in a subtle way like on hover as it would be too much otherwise. The descriptions could also be generalized with that information always included. As for the descriptions, I don't really care about them, but at least adaptating them would be nice. Now- Important -> Dates : Dates need to be fixed. Original creation date. Translation completion date. Website addition date. Decide which one to use where, and properly label them. Accurate information is your top priority. You do NOT want Hourglass of Summer labeled as having been translated in 2013. Addition date should be a hidden value only used for sorting. Favorites : is this admin's favorites or an arbitrary popularity list? In either case, I think it should be on Home or somewhere other than here. Especially since they're static and standard choices that pretty much anyone who knows about VNs has heard about. If some dynamicity was put into the section, it could be of some use though. Most recent releases : Nevermind the dates being the actual release date, which is hilarious in its own way, nevermind there being only two games, what is this even for? It's displayed on the page that already tells you the most recent additions. In itself it is not a bad idea to have this separately, but in the current state it is simply useless. Random visual novels : This should be here. In fact the side bar should have the same content on browsing and individual pages for consistency. Also, as the most minor complaint in history, current game should be excluded on the random list when on a game page. And as the second to most minor complaint in history, the links should be titled with the game names. Some people still check hover text. Otome Do we really need this? When the only other category is "Browse", it's a bit ridiculous. I woudn't skip a good otomege, so why do I have to check two places? And why have that category but not others? This just splits up games for no good reason and should be dealt with using sorting functions. Upcoming I personally don't have anything to comment on about this page. VNTS link is all that's needed. However what's with the guest comments? I don't get the purpose of this section at all, or more to the point the fact that it is located here. It almost looks like it was used to fill space. About I didn't read any of it. Volunteer If you think that link's good, it's good. -- Game Page Good amount of info, links and pictures on most games. Genres are a bit dodgy, not sure if they're taken from somewhere else but I would object or question a lot of them. Again, the guest comment thing is kind of messy, and it'll become messier over time. But hey, there's no real problem yet. The important part, though : if you want the site to be a usefull hub for fan translation stuff, there needs to be more work put into updating. Steins;gate still has no information on updated patches. Where the fuck is yu-no? I'm not even looking at projects in progress, but at least keep complete projects up to date. Which leads to the main problem... Downloads Oh god. I'm sure you have your own idea and I'm sure some people like it that way, but when you're dealing with fan-made patches, it's simply ABSURD to have ONLY pre-installed downloads. I don't come here to download stuff anyway, but this is so ridiculous that I have to make a point of it. Fan translations can be updated on a whim at any time, and you're giving people already installed applications that might not be compatible for applying a new patch. These installations might also not work correctly for some people. And let's look at these torrents. Most of those I looked at are PACKED IN A SINGLE FILE. Added in are ARBITRARY ADVERTISING BULLSHIT FILES about piracy or whatever. What is this? It's like the quality just fell off a cliff. The downloads are the reason I cannot recommend this site to people looking for an easy place to get info and/or downloads on VNs. You can have your pre-installed downloads if you want. AS A CHOICE. We're talking about torrents. You should have the original content in order to make installations, and people are not going to download both. It should make barely any difference. If storage is a problem though, pre-installs should NOT be the solution. And as a last note, at least make an effort to put some info/link on buying the original game for the few people who might be inclined on doing so. -- I wanted to write about some other stuff and give some suggestions but there's so much text already and I'm going to sleep. Goodnight.
