  1. Thanks, I'll give it a look.
  2. I'm not into low hanging fruit.
  3. I’m rather green when it comes to visual novels, having had a starting place in the form of Katawa Shoujo. I realize that doesn’t necessarily label me with any such snowflake status in the VN community, nor do I expect said treatment. However, I do feel as though my tastes differ wildly from the majority of VN enthusiasts, but this is based on my tastes alone. I make this judgment after having analyzed a wealth of scores attached to certain visual novels as given by the wider community. If I come across as self-important or self-indulgent in any way, I assure you, this isn’t at all my intention. Anyway, onto what I’m looking for: 1. A color palette that pops – I really dig high saturation and can’t at all stand washed out colors. They’re bland, forgettable, and just plain boring to me. As dumb as it might sound, I like to associate certain characters to certain colors. Why? That extra layer helps me differentiate people by design. Association works for me! Seriously, check it out. Rin has red hair and green eyes –> By picturing this, I can picture what her entire body looks like…shutup –> Since VN’s have conversations that play out with static images, I can also recall what it was she talked about --> AND there are certain poses characters make to project their mood; Rin often slouched and gazed off in the distance, looking rather aloof --> Rin was very eccentric See? And I recalled all of that simply by thinking about her hair and eye color. It’s because of this that I appreciate when characters don’t fade into backgrounds. You may say its lame to rely on that kind of association, but I enjoy it, because my memory is fucking terrible. 2. Slice of life – This should be obvious since I’ve sucked Katawa Shoujo’s dick throughout this post (and will continue to do so throughout the remainder) but I felt it necessary to add. I don’t really have any special reasoning for why this is, it’s just what I have naturally gravitated toward. As far as VN’s are concerned, I’m not really interested in exploring any with fantasy or paranormal elements in them. Also, no murder mysteries. SCHOOL IS A PLUS. 3. Non-kinetic – I need choices…lots of them. I tried Grisaia no Kajitsu and the severe lack of carving my own path bored me. Obviously this isn’t a kinetic novel, but it took far too long for even the first choice to pop up. It just felt like I was being taken for a ride...on a dirt road...where attractions only pop up every five-thousand miles… 4. Sex? Why not? – Listen…I’m not gonna pretend that I’m not a pervert…look at my name. However, I did eventually land on VN’s as opposed to Eroge or H-games, because they were generally either found in one of two departments: The too much sex department or the why is there shit in this game now department… Fuck Starless, seriously… Shock value is stupid… 5. Male protagonist – I’m a man... 6. Realistic dialogue – If the VN’s setting focuses on high school kids, I don’t want them talking as though adults are writing for them. Movie-wise, think Chronicle. Game-wise, think HuniePop (Yes, I realize HuniePop isn’t a visual novel, but I’m only bringing it up because it did have realistic dialogue and as such, this is why it relates to the aforementioned example). I suppose I could have made this much shorter by simply asking for a visual novel similar in both art style and tone to that of Katawa Shoujo…but I have insomnia and haven’t slept well in weeks. So, do any VN’s fit that criteria or is KS unique? Oh, and just to throw this out there as a reminder of what not to recommend due to my lack of enjoyment for them: Grisaia no Kajitsu, Yume Miru Kusuri
