Absolutely not. I agree that in a few cases they may advance the plot or make interactions with girls in dating esque games more sincere but in most cases it's pure fanservice. I'm stunned that there are people that exist that would stop playing eroge if there was no sexual content. If thats really all you're looking for than there are countless other mediums better for that.

Technically my first "vn" was the phoenix wright series, but what really got me into the medium was 9 hours 9 persons 9 doors. Everything about that game just blew me away and I needed something even remotely similar to it and that lead to Ever 17 and that led to everything else

A decent chunk of my favorites have been mentioned (Miura, Urasawa, Nihei) but a few others I enjoy are definitely Inio Asano, Hirohiko Araki, Q Hayashida and Hiroaki Samura

Rahxephon and Gungrave are the first two things that come to mind. The former especially is a true gem

I just got back from the 3rd movie and I enjoyed it a considerable amount. Just a fair warning that anyone expecting nagisa to have a huge role will be disappointed.

Hello, I've been a fan of vn's for a decent amount of time, some of my favorites include the Infinity Series, Muv Luv Alternative, Sharin no Kuni, and the Zero Escape series if that counts. I am incredibly excited for the translation of I/O and it's been dominating my life for a good few weeks.
