GreyWolfXx Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Anyone who would want to read a serious, dramatic yuri should check out Octave. It's a manga about the adult life of a former idol. FidgetQueen 1 Quote
FidgetQueen Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I guess.... Revolutionary Girl Utena for yuri undertones and The Adolesence of Utena for the real thing. Quote

Getsuya Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 An interesting point was made in Flowers (a yuri VN I'm reading on Vita): one of the girls points out that outfits that reveal cleavage are aimed at attracting guys, while outfits that reveal more of the leg are aimed at attracting girls. I don't know how true this is but I wonder if yuri art has a trend like that. Thoughts? Not being a girl interested in other girls I can't really comment on it myself except to say that personally I prefer a cute face to either cleavage or legs. Quote

Legs can be pretty attractive and I've known a lot of guys who would agree. Not sure if yuri art follows that though. I'll be on the look for that in future reading/watching. Quote
Nosebleed Posted June 10, 2015 Author Posted June 10, 2015 Hmm, really depends. To be honest i never notice a trend in the genre as a whole, but you can easily tell yuri done by males will typically put more emphasis on the physical attributes of the girls whereas when done by females the emphasis on those zones decreases a lot, and even in actual erotic scenes, shoujo manga written by women typically puts more emphasis on everywhere else but those erogenous areas. Shoujo manga sex often involves lots of handholding, hugging, kissing, an array of facial expressions that don't involve ahegaos, lilies in the background, etc. If it's done by a male you'll typically see a lot of focus on the actual sex play and all the groping and whatnot. Just general trends i notice in the artstyle of things I read, but really it can vary a lot so it's hard to pinpoint stuff. Recently I started reading 15 Sai for example and going over the first chapter again I do notice a distinct lack of eye popping cleavage, and despite the girls appearing naked in some panels, there's no heavy focus on areas like the chest, just the body overall, so it feels more natural and less sexualized. Yet the manga was written by a male. Quote

Similar to you though, I agree with the bolded part I haven't really payed attention to the author's gender when I read yuri manga, but~ I have a feeling the ones I really liked were probably written by females. I could be wrong though. Quote

I'm not sure about it. it's don't work with me because I prefer yuri with more romance than sex .-. I don't think the author draws wondering if the clothes will attract more men or women, they draw according to their taste. That is if a character has an outfit that shows more legs or cleavage isn't because the author wants to attract an explicit public, it is because they like that sort of clothes in their manga. But of course there is a chance that they are wanting to draw attention to let the manga most popular. That's just my opnion but I don't think this happens in Yuri. I usually read manga with those schools only for girls "Aah Onee-sama" *-*. And since they usually wear uniforms don't have much to show, so I can not tell with certainty. Quote

Same with the people above me, I haven't noticed anything like that in yuri art. Nor can I affirm that cleavages are for men and legs are for women, since I tend to lean towards the cute face or legs side. Quote
storyteller Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Apparently I like Yuri. I don't see Okujou no Yuri-rei San, and I really liked that VN. Quote

bronx819 Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Lately there's been plenty of yuri anime and manga so I'm glad for that~ Not many english VN's though, the Sono Hanabira series is kind of boring for me for one reason or another, and I absolutely loved Lonely Yuri. I'm looking forward to the day that yuri gets popular enough that this potential master piece (Class Zenin Maji de Yuri?! ~Watashi-tachi no Rezu Oppai wa Anata no Mono Joshi Zenin Shiofuki Keikaku~) gets picked up Quote
GreyWolfXx Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Sono Hanabira gets boring after a while, but I loved Aoishiro and Lonely Yuri. They were good. Quote
storyteller Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Just the other day, on one of my frequent trips to a used bookstore, I came across Iono-Sama Fanatics. I had totally forgotten about the series until now, but I'm pretty sure that was the manga that got me started into this genre. Quote
UniverseAdventurer Posted September 23, 2016 Posted September 23, 2016 Is this still alive? *sarcasm* Quote
