solidbatman Posted June 20, 2015 Posted June 20, 2015 Just because you disagree with someone doesn't mean they're shitposting. Last I heard there was a problem with the Grisaia kickstarter where people weren't going to get the backing rewards SP promised, though I didn't really read too much about it. Then there's things like how the translation for If My Heart Had Wings was less than stellar, or how some of their translators were people rejected from Mangagamer for being bad translators. On a more personal note, I hold them in scorn for crap like the Sakura series, but that's another story. You have no clue what you are talking about. Quote
sanahtlig Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Crowdfunding visual novel localization: The perspective of an eroge enthusiast Kickstarter is growing in popularity as a sandbox for jittery Japanese VN developers. Are English consumers getting the short end of the stick?Crowdfunding is the latest fad in visual novel localization, first popularized by Sekai Project and now catching on as players like âge join the fray. Notable crowdfunded localization projects (all by Sekai Project) include fault milestone one ($35k), World End Economica ($95k), the Grisaiatrilogy ($475k), and Clannad ($541k). Upcoming crowdfunding campaigns include the MuvLuvseries (Degica and âge) and Root Double (Sekai Project).Like it or not, crowdfunding of visual novel localization is picking up momentum. As Sekai Project CEO put it, "Welcome to the new normal." Crayten 1 Quote
Scorp Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Sanahtlig, I completely agree with you. Sekai always dodge adult questions, give elusive promises before game is funded and quickly deny "whoever told you about adult release? we never told about it". You never know, if what they promised would be true. Not transparent at all. Quote
Crayten Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Crowdfunding visual novel localization: The perspective of an eroge enthusiast Totaly agree with you on these points. It always annoys me that they keep dodging the questions about unrated versions. Even with or without a kickstarter you have always to read between the lines by VNs from Sekai Projekt if want infos about the unrated version. Its also not a nice way to treat to most loyal Visual Novel fans that made it possible for SP to exist by buying unrated VNs etc in the last couple of years and i think the majority from those who funded grisaia/clannad etc is from this loyal VN fanbase. Suzu Fanatic Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Call me a pragmatist, but I think it's well within their rights as a business. Though as a fan of VNs, and a consumer - I obviously am not happy about it. Quote
