Mr Poltroon Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 I know, I know, this game hasn't even been released in Japan, much less even confirmed for an English release. But as you may have surmised at some point, I am far too much of a fan of this series not to create a thread on it. There are many who enjoy going into games without knowing a thing about them, as such, here's the two crucial pieces of information: It was released on June 9th, for the Nintendo 3DS. This was directed and written by Shu Takumi, the writer for the first 4 games, as well as the Ace Attorney VS Professor Layton game. The game is set in the Meiji Era. From here on out, spoilers. Tagged, but spoilers nonetheless. This will include all the information publicly released and in which I have managed to get my hands on. Box Art Trailer 1 Introduces main characters and Holmes' Joint Reasoning gameplay segments. Trailer 2 Introduces more characters, English Court, and the Jury System present in the game. Gameplay Trailer Launch Trailer Japanese eShop Demo (Translation Link as well) Translation: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gS3b19SOyhps1wbgHvfVnuqFMqlZPcpSEGrAO86F-sc/edit#gid=0 (Credit - http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/789653-dai-gyakuten-saiban-naruhodou-ryuunosuke-no-bouken/72015163) New Mechanics Jury (Trial Segment) Closing Argument: The Jury can decide if your guilty at any time. If they decide you're guilty you have the right to a closing argument. In a Closing Argument you attempt to change the Jury's minds from "Guilty" to "Not Guilty". Juror's statements can be used against one another. Multiple Witnesses (Trial Segment) Joint Reasoning (Investigation Segment) Holmes will make various deductions. You will correct "minor" mistakes (which actually change the entire thing). Together you will reach the truth. Character Info Light spoilers only. Ryunosuke Naruhodo Main protagonist. He is a student Attorney. He is an ancestor of Phoenix Wright. Susato Mikotoba Judicial Assistant. She is Wright's (Naruhodo) assistant. She has something of a sweet tooth and enjoys reading law books. Kazuma Asōgi Defence Attorney and a student. A friend of Wright's. Sherlock Holmes Ace Attorney series' Sherlock Holmes. Airheaded and in Ace Attorney tradition, has a few bolts loose. Iris Watson Hardly any information. She is a child (10 years old) who is Holmes' assistant. She wrote/writes his stories and has a medical license. She's a genius inventor who created various forensic tools for Holmes. More case specific or "spoiler characters". Spoilers on Victims, Defendants and Detectives. (The further down the list the more grave the spoiler). Payne ancestor is the prosecutor for the first case. Barok Van Zieks is the main prosecutor. The man atop all others (arms open) is Chief Justice. Lestrade is the woman off to the right in the cover art. She is an orphan. Detective Gregson is the man saluting in the box art. John Watson is the victim in the first case. There are a few more witnesses and defendants that have already been shown. Ask if you want more info. Case Info I'll start with a synopsis (few spoilers). Case 1 Synopsis Someone is murdered at a restaurant in Japan. The defendant is Ryunosuke (main protagonist) himself! Case 2 Synopsis Someone is murdered in a ship. Holmes is the detective for this case. More info (spoilers): This is an investigation only case. As it occurs on a moving ship there's no way to have a trial. Case 3 Synopsis The defendant is a friendly man know in the city for... being friendly. The crime occurs on a carriage. More info (spoilers): This is Lestrade's first appearance, as well as the jury, as well as Barok Van Zieks. Case 4 Synopsis The defendant is a Japanese transfer student. Historically a Japanese writer who lived in London at the time. Case 5 is also confirmed. There may be more, but only these 5 have been teased. SoulJustIn and Jptje 2 Quote
Ryechu Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 I am obviously going to have my hands on this the day I can get it in English, but I am GREATLY looking forward to this. This is slightly reminiscent of PLvAA, because it's "in the past". Very much looking forward to seeing how this one will work out. Quote
joehawks12 Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 weird, i had a dream about Ace Attorney. I must have subconciously known. Quote
Shikomizue Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Looks awesome! I can't wait 'till it gets an English release! And I finish Apollo Justice, both the Investigations games, and Dual Destinies... Quote
Eclipsed Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Looking forward to your let's play of this when it gets released in English sometime in 3427. Quote
Mr Poltroon Posted July 4, 2015 Author Posted July 4, 2015 Looking forward to your let's play of this when it gets released in English sometime in 3427. Too bad. This requires entirely different equipment I am unwilling to acquire in order to record. Quote
Zebhra Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Its always good to have another AA game (im still a bit conflicted about PLvsAA though...and its lookslike this game gonna be pretty much the same) I would actually prefer dual destinies 2 with Maya's comeback or smthn, but if thisone about Sherlock and Phoenix in previous life will get translated, ill get it without any objections for sure. Quite a fan myself too Quote
Mr Poltroon Posted July 4, 2015 Author Posted July 4, 2015 Its always good to have another AA game (im still a bit conflicted about PLvsAA though...and its lookslike this game gonna be pretty much the same) What's your conflict about the first and why do you think it'll be the same? In spoiler tags, please. Quote

My biggest complain is multiple-witnesses-system, I didn't really liked this cross-examination inside cross-examination. My second complain is the whole "magic" system, it was so...I dunno.....ehm..unfair and out of place? Yes in the end it was just smoke and mirrors, but you played the whole game in wizards and warriors mode. And the lastone is Layton, no I like Layton's games too and as a character here he was pretty ok, but compared to him Phoenix looked like a rooky or maybe even a guest star and the reason why bought the game was not Layton but Phoenix...ws a bit disappointed. Why I think its gonna be the same? Well the multi-witness system...and all the new cast (with lots of dejavu feeling)...so that's basically it...for now. Quote

Why I think its gonna be the same? Well the multi-witness system...and all the new cast (with lots of dejavu feeling)...so that's basically it...for now. I see... Generally, I think the multi-witness system is one of the best things they introduced in a while (and people tend to agree). It doesn't necessarily mean all contradictions will be of that kind, but it leaves ample room for witness banter and for them to contradict each other. The magic, eh? Establishing a giant set of rules known as magic was actually a pretty fun thing to do, in my opinion. They had the freedom to make cases reliant on magic, but which still had a set of rules to provide stable contradictions. Now with the last one I do agree with. If Layton is better than Phoenix at everything, including being a lawyer (what the actual hell? He was leading Phoenix by the nose since the very instant he became the prosecutor), then why was Phoenix even there? I wanted Phoenix to be better than him at least at that. As for why you think it'll be the same, I don't quite get it. I mean, I understand, if you dislike the witness system that's fine, but the rest of your problems don't even exist here. No magic, no Layton. What seems to be the issue with the cast? They certainly aren't better than Ryunosuke, Holmes himself is quite the nutjob. Quote
Zebhra Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 Yea, you are right here, in my mind it works like this -> same cross examination->similar trials=similar game. As for the cast, I don't really have problem with them beside the fact they all are new characters and im just taking this fact reeeeally cautious. Quote

That was meant to be an all-new cast game. Frankly, for some it was pretty hit or miss. Those who liked it more than the original trilogy, and those who thought it didn't even compare... Quote
Zebhra Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 Yes I played it, Apollo was a solid character, but if I have to choose, ill be in the second camp. Apollo Justice was pretty good beside the fact they fckd up Phoenix...Maya is gone (yes, master duties I know), Phoenix banned from courtroom (running "talent" agency now) and he even got an adopted daughter (Trucy)....that in my opinion was quite the mess and I was really curious how they will get out of it...I believe it was after AJ they started Edgeworth's series(which was okay)? And I get it as authors had no idea how to get out if themselves.....But they manage to do it pretty good in Dual Destinies (the only ones im still missing is Gumshoe and Maya, but Athena was quite a character too) So, basically, AJ without any mention of Phoenix would be better. hussien-11 Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 I wonder why there is no news about a western release yet.. Quote
Mr Poltroon Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 I wonder why there is no news about a western release yet.. Dual Destinies was a pretty strange case where it was announced pretty soon after the Japanese announcement. Since I didn't follow previous development, however, I don't know if they usually announce it after the Japanese release or not. PLvsPW, for instance, was announced nearly two years after release or something like that. Quote
Mr Poltroon Posted July 8, 2015 Author Posted July 8, 2015 The game has been released in Japan. I'll indulge myself in spoilers and clarify any questions I can should any arise. Quote
hussien-11 Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 The game has been released in Japan. any impressions ? my sixth sense is telling me that this will be the best AA game yet. Quote
Zebhra Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Yea, a short review of first case would be nice...does it fells the same? Objection is still epic? And by any chance "cornered/suspense" theme is there too? Quote
