Shikomizue Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 I'm going to be playing the original Resident Evil which I've heard is a classic horror game, and I wanted to know if anyone on Fuwa has played it. Hopefully you guys can give me tips (so I don't die a horrible death) and share your experiences. Quote
OriginalRen Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 I have. I am a Resident Evil fanatic. Played all of the games, own all of them, and have beaten the DC version of the 1st game on hard mode many many times. Heck, I used to do speed runs of this game. Still 1 of my favorite games of all time. I can tell you where every zombie is located, where all the ammo dumps are, and where all the save points are if you'd like. Quote

I meant small things to look out for like little tips and tricks. If I knew where everything was going to be, it would be waaaaaayyyyy less fun. I'm the type of gamer who wants to experience everything for himself, only using guides if I have to. Quote

If I knew where everything was going to be, it would be waaaaaayyyyy less fun. I'm the type of gamer who wants to experience everything for himself, only using guides if I have to. Tips: Don't fight every single zombie. Given the fact that ammo is limited, try to kill all of the zombies leading to a save room so you aren't wasting kills on pointless "explore" rooms that don't house a lot of goodies If you do need to kill a zombie and/or run past it, utilize your defense items (dagger, battery packs, etc.) so that even if they do grab you, you can easily stab them off without taking any damage and being pushed back Save your heavy damage weapons for harder to kill enemies. In other words, don't use a grenade launcher or a shotgun on regular zombies Don't pick up every single item in the mansion. Jill has more storage space than Chris does, but picking up every herb in the game is actually less efficient than leaving them there. That being said, keep track of where the items you leave behind are. Did you leave 6 green herbs in a room that doesn't have any enemies around it? Go back and heal up Do not burn every single zombie in the mansion to prevent crimson head spawns. If you killed a random zombie in a single explored room, is it worth wasting kerosene to burn it? Probably not If you do need to fight a crimson head, use a shotgun or a better item because they will rip you in half with their speed Chris starts with a lighter. Use this to your advantage Know where all of the storage chests are located and use them when you need to If you know you need to solve a puzzle coming up, carry those items with you at all times. There is nothing worse than getting to a puzzle and realizing you need to backtrack all the way to go and grab the items from a chest Don't carry save ribbons with you. Seriously Finally, auto aim does exist in this game. The best way to know if a zombie (crimson head) is still alive is to aim your gun. Does it lock onto a specific direction where the dead body is located? Yup, it's alive Cyrillej1 1 Quote
Shikomizue Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 Thanks, I'll try to keep these in mind. Although, I'm not sure where a lighter is going to come in handy... Quote

In Resident Evil, zombies who die eventually come back to life if the bodies are not burned. They get super fast and slash at you, ripping apart your HP when you backtrack to certain rooms. In Jill's case, you need to not only carry a lighter, but also lighter fluid, essentially wasting 2 item slots instead of 1. Quote
Shikomizue Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 Hmm... interesting, thanks for the tip. I could see myself dying to that a lot without information. You seem really invested in RE. Mind if I were to discuss it with you after I have played some of the games? Quote
Deep Blue Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Can't really say much more because ren already said it all but you can use your shotgun to kill the zombies, aim to the head, yes even if it is a good weapon that it should be used for the hunters or some boss, from time to time it comes handy to use it against the zombies for the headshot so they cant revive (just let them get close to you, aim up and shot them) because finding kerosene and having the canteen with you it's a pain. When you try to open a door it will tell you what key you need to open it, remember that because you will find that with the same key you can actually open more than 1 door. Jill has less health and it's slower than chris so yeah you should play with him the first time, it's easier even if he has less inventory slots. Quote

Jill doesn't need to use the broken shotgun to obtain the actual shotgun, and she can completely bypass the plant boss in the residence area of the game if she mixes the chemicals correctly (and that's not a hard puzzle). In addition, Barry's assistance in the beginning of the game and the fact that she has a lock pick makes getting through the initial parts of the mansion easy. Also, Barry helps her in the final part of the game against the Tyrant on the roof if you choose to keep him alive, essentially making it a lot easier to unload on him without having to play the dodge game. The only downside for chris is that he is not being saved by barry all the time but he has more hp and he uses the weapons much better specially the knife which if you know how to kill the zombies with it you can save a lot of bullets in the beginning of the game and later on the game is much easier that way. Also he does grab more bullets, jill seems to be easier but in the long run chris is better, at least for me it looks that way. Quote
