so this is just a quick question.

I just begun to play the JAST version of Eien no Aselia, but seeing that it isnt the original 18+ version I just became curious of how much im actually missing?

someone here who have played both and can clarify this.

There is a thread on vndb about it but for me it was confusing as heck and I dont think it was referring to the official english release.

Plot wise basically nothing as the h-scenes were written pretty much separately from the main game and were pretty poor both in graphics and writing.

The version JAST got the license to was the all ages version although someone did make a patch to put some of the content from the original back into the game; more blood, skimpier outfits, no towels during bath scenes, etc... the sequel game they've confirmed to be the 18+ version (although my guess is this will be a game to also get a release on steam with an 'all ages' version at the same time). .

The JAST version has an entire route missing, an "evil" route where the protagonist basically rapes everyone and everything. I haven't heard very good things about that route and it was just a side thing in the original version.

You are missing the evil route, with lots of rape scenes... and one or two normal H-scenes for each heroine.  Also, you are missing the bloody parts of various scenes and other cosmetic changes to the CGs.

You'd be missing the context for the entire conflict, which is sexual in nature.  The sword Desire hungers insatiably for mana because Yuuto is raped by an evil spirit upon entering the world, draining Desire's mana and setting up the power struggle between Yuuto and Desire which forms the crux of much of the early plot.  There's also a scene midway through involving Kotori that is significant to the plot, the impact of which is likely greatly diminished without the sexual overtones.  In Aselia's route, her sex scene becomes a topic of conversation among the other spirits and culminates in one of the more humorous moments of the game.  Not to mention the scene itself is pretty endearing.

Well, it's not like you have any choice but to play the non-adult version, unless you can read Japanese.

That's more or less the case with all VNs that get converted to all-ages versions, though... for instance, Kei's H-scenes in Dies Irae are absolutely hilarious and they are both part of the story as a whole.  The same goes for Kajiri Kamui Kagura, where certain h-scenes define an important part of the last part of the story and the epilogue.

I don't understand it really, if you want to take out the ero-scenes go ahead but why censor the plot itself? before the sex scenes just give hints that the characters had sex or whatever and then continue on! dont freaking change the whole script because of that >_> I bought the game and I was going to play it but now that I know that it is censored  I won't..meh

If you have it, then play it for yourself and make your own judgement. I don't think it impacts the game as negatively as sanahtlig implies. It would be ridiculous to skip on it just because of a few message board posts, and outright asinine to complain about it without experiencing it for yourself.

That's why I like concepts that at least aim for the middle ground instead of implementing a heavy-handed kidgloves approach:

(taken from their kickstarter page):

"This is an issue we struggled with for a while. We think that sexuality is an important part of human relationships. At the same time, we want to make a game that readers of all ages can enjoy. To that end, we're going to have something of a compromise: we'll be including love scenes that aren't pornographic, but are solely intended to deepen the relationships between characters. We aren't interested in making a hentai game, so we won't be doing that."

-The Human Reignition Project staff

As for my thoughts on Eien no Aselia I tend to agree with Decay, you should at least give it a read and decide for yourself. I actually enjoyed it despite the cut content. I do not feel the sexuality played a very large role, unless you hoped to play through the cut-out "evil" route. They modified the context well enough that it never felt like it was missing anything.

A thought you need to keep in mind is that Aselia's localization was decided after a fantl project by Dakkodango of the all-ages version was released and it uses that same patch (with editing) as part of the game.  Even if they had wanted to release the adult version, it would have taken more time and money... and the biggest attraction of Aselia was that all the hard work was done and all that needed to be worked on was some 'adjustments'.  That is also the reason why it was released relatively quickly - for Jast - after its announcement, as opposed to the regular three to five year delays you see on a lot of other VNs.

Once again clephas is right.

Eien no Aselia: The original game. Does not contain the expansion routes for Kyouko or Tokimi. Contains 18+ content and an 'evil' route.
Eien no Aselia EXPANSION: An expansion fan disc for the original game that adds the routes for Kyouko and Tokimi.
Eien no Aselia - Kono Daichi no Hate de (PS2 Version): Includes the original game routes and all the routes from the expansion, adds new voice actors and art, and revises the battle system. Removes all 18+ content.
Eien no Aselia - Kono Daichi no Hate de (PC Version): The same as the PS2 version, only ported back to the PC. This is the one we are translating. It comes with the second game in the Eternity Sword series, in the Sei Naru Kana SPECIAL PACKAGE.
Eien no Aselia DIGEST: The original game turned into a pure visual novel, with all gameplay removed. Only contains the Aselia route. This version was only included with pre-orders of the Supitan fan disc.
Eien no Aselia Special Edition A special 5000 piece limited edition released in 05/2010 that mixes the original PC version and Kono Daichi no Hate De, essentially re-adding the adult scenes and 'evil route'. Patch does not work on it.

JAST is an eroge publisher.  They didn't release the ero-version due to the loli content.  They even admitted so in a forum post around the time of the announcement.  They said they would've had to censor the adult version, so instead they went with the non-adult version.

I'm sure the non-adult version is also pretty good.  Since Seinarukana is coming out in November or so, those who haven't already might as well play Aselia before then.

I've played both... the non-adult version is pretty smooth for being an adaptation, but the way they fail to properly address the power-stealing issue at the beginning is kind of lame...  I played that special edition (got my hands on a rl copy, too, lol) soon after I turned to untranslated... and it did make more sense... in some ways.

It seems the patch I mentioned previously does not seem to want to work for the actual physical copy (jlist)...it's probably something simple that I'm doing wrong anyone wanna walk through how to install the uncensor patch since whatever I'm doing I keep getting an error when trying to run the program for the replacer that the \adult_graphics.dll could not be found. I had this working in the past on my windows seven but currently have windows 8 so not sure if that might be why this doesn't seem to be wanting to fix itself. any help would be appreciated.

I've been wanting to replay it in anticipation for seinarukana.

That uncensor patch doesn't restore the adult content, and it's probably specific to the Japanese version.

I am well aware, the patch only removes the towels in the bath scenes and makes the outfits skimpier (like they were in the original version of the game)...I've played it before with the patch installed it's just been a long while and I'm on a different computer now. Not a huge deal to be honest I'm more interested if said uncensor patch actually works on the JAST version of the game than anything else
