I'm at my wits end, I have a problem with If My Heart Had Wings

I bought the game in all it's glory, just wanting to play it and get the restoration patch to work. But now, after I have downloaded the Sweet Love UI patch, it completely messes up the game.

 

I cannot get the sprites to work in this game, I have uninstalled and reinstalled countless times, and I just can't get this game to work with me.

 

Here is what is happening. First an explanation, then a photo. Please, for the love of god, help me. I don't want to refund this game.

 

The game starts up fine, I have absolutely no problem with starting up, Sweet Love is grayed out, not sure if that matters. http://i.imgur.com/S1N0FP4.jpg

I should also mention that everytime I patch Sweet Love UI, this save comes in, and still has the black box, everytime I have uninstalled, reinstalled, and done the same process over and over. http://i.imgur.com/QEBCqce.png

I'm really close to just giving up, and I've provided as much info possible.

 

I do have my locale as Japan, even have location as Japan. I have downloaded eveything around 4 times now, and I'm sure I am doing something wrong. I REALLY need help here, all I want to do is play this damn game without it bugging out. I have no idea why I bought it anyway, when I could have just torrented it.

Yes, I have. I did that today, and realized that I was still playing the Steam version. I then tried to just play the game by itself from the folder, and it was still MoeNovel's version. Thought so. I don't really think you can apply an append disc for JP version onto English version, so it ended up breaking your game.

I have looked online, and there really isn't an alternative for Sweet Love UI, and I can't figure out how to get the UI patch to not break the game. I don't know what else to do.

Well, I mean, the append disc will only give you some bonuses and more H contents, that's all. You lose nothing even if you don't install it. So it's pretty much the simplest way to just leave that thing alone.

I have seen and used both of those posts. I'm going to try to download both the patch and UI one more time.

I'm talking about the Sweet Love Append Disc, not the restoration patch.

Don't just do the same thing over and over and expect a different result--that's the definition of insanity  There's obviously something wrong here--these patches have worked just fine for many other users.  Perhaps MoeNovel updated the Steam version and it's no longer compatible with these fan patches?  Perhaps there's something in your OS environment that's interfering with the installation?  Antivirus perhaps?  A firewall?

More like, the current patch was never meant to support the Steam version, that's why some users have problems when installing it on the Steam version, although it should theoretically be the same if you didn't mess with any files.

I really suggest a clean reinstall without any external patches just to make sure the game runs before you try to mess with it.

I think I might have been messing up this whole time, I installed it WITH steam, when I apparently needed to actually make it a file of its own not in the Program Files folder. Note to self.

So you're saying someone wrote a very long setup guide for a combination of game + patches that doesn't work for anyone, including himself?  I'm a bit skeptical.

I got it working after several more hours. Sweet Love UI just simply doesn't work for me, no matter where the files are. No matter how I do it, it won't work for me. I tried the game with just the restoration, and it works, I'm just missing out on a few H-scenes like Satsuki explained. They aren't even that important. My advice is if your game does exactly what mine does, and no matter how many different ways you go about it and it still does not work, just use the restoration patch. I spent two days, literally finding this out. I don't even know why I even tried, when I could have just done this. I guess this is solved, but not really, because Sweet Love UI still won't work for me, when it should.

Ok so I had the same issue as you and even went as far as to reinstall my computer. After hours upon hours of testing I was able to fix all my issues.

I'am using the steam version to clarify.

So I reinstalled the game with Japan locale

Opened the folder and placed in the restoration patch installed the apply_diffs.bat that it came with, the improved one didn't do crap for me. I didn't use that damn improved bat one since that kept screwing me up for some reason. Also I stopped using the fixed apply.bat one everyone recommends because that screwed me up as well. 

I then copied over the sweet love patch

Then I downloaded the sweet love sprite fix.rar and replaced the Rio Folder with the new one.

Then I downloaded the ntlea file that has already been created by this great fellow at https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=501001760

After downloading I renamed the advhd.exe to advhd2.exe and copied over the two files from the ntlea.rar and used the new advhd.exe that actually has the wing logo. 

FINALLY after trying everything like you I got this to work and Im using windows 10. 

I know this is vague but I honestly hope this helps you. I don't know if you will see this again but maybe someone else might. 

Just use the link I placed in there for the ntlea file. He has everything listed. Just dont use the damn improved file or the fixed .bat file.

Best of Luck. I already beat this years ago but Im out of translated novels and replaying this gem. 

(Wanted to add the reason why I used the ntlea file was because even though I changed the locale to japan and restarted the game knew I was not in japan which kept giving me those 0.000000039 or w/e errors that kept popping up. This ntlea file forces it to recognize that you have japan locale which I honestly believed solved all my issue but Im a noob so who knows.)
