Amagami Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 (Rewrite) Exactly, if I had criticize one thing in Terra it would be Kotarou, not only he's a totally different character but now he has a giant stick up his ass and isn't funny anymore, that's a shame. (Rewrite) In other routes he is only a typical school student, after all he lose his memories. (terra bad ending) In terra route he's a serious protagonist, that see death of several people. (and didn't forgot his past) Quote
Nyanko Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Slowly making my way through Secret Game/Killer Queen... I don't know, not really impressed so far. Judging by the setup and the (rather unusual) narration style, it looks like this won't have much more than the survival game itself. Well, I don't want to judge it too soon, but not expecting much from it at this point. From Killer Queen I get the feeling its just a sit back and enjoy the little story, nothing too special but good enough to enjoy. Secret Game should have a bit more content though, maybe it gets better in the end! The main character is ok, but it would've been nicer if he was more the badass kind of guy. Quote
Nerathim Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 (Rewrite) In other routes he is only a typical school student, after all he lose his memories. (terra bad ending) In terra route he's a serious protagonist, that see death of several people. (and didn't forgot his past) (Rewrite) Typical school student yes but at least he has a real "identity" (kinda hard to say that when speaking about Kotarou the Ditto) in Terra he's incredibly bland. I think it's much harder to give a good personnality to a character than a consistent backstory, backstory is just text, you just need to know where and how integrate it only once. A personnality follows the character during the whole story, hence I find Kotarou to be a lot better in others routes with his twisted sense of humor, his differents values and bunch of other aspects... In terra he knows who he is of course, but he's too much introverted, introverted in a bad way imo. He contrasts so much with the previous Kotarou that I find it nearly impossible to feel sympathy for him in Terra, even when he sees several people dying it doesn't affects his personality a lot, I just remember him being sad when he was forced to kill Esaka... (and damn, how can he falls in love with a random Rei-like such as Kagari ? hurrr but that's another subject haha) Quote
Chifuyu-chan Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Playing Cocoro Function NEO trial. Still promising as the first game Quote
Crimrui Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Cho Dengeki Stryker few hours in and Muv Luv Chronicles just starting. It's been a while since I played any kind of VN, last one was Grisaia few months back. Comyu will be my next target as soon as I'm done with Stryker. Pretty enjoyable so far. Quote

The main character, huh... how was Killer Queen written? Secret Game is completely written in third person, with the narrator knowing things that the characters don't; was Killer Queen also written like this? It's pretty obvious that Souichi is the MC, but it is still very distanced thanks to the way it is written. Can't say I like that, at least not now. Quote

Yes KQ is also in third person, which is a bit meh at some times because you will know more about the situation than the characters. I do like it sometimes though, when you can hear what other characters think, not only Souichi. Quote
TexasDice Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 I have beaten Little Busters (or atleast the gallery says so). It might have ascended to the best text based experience I've ever had. The incapability to cry can be a double edged sword at times... Quote
edwd2 Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 hapymaher now. im starting to like purple soft's characters Quote
Funyarinpa Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 I'll probably drop Muv Luv Alternative. After that, I probably won't have time for VN's for a few months... My next will probably be Exogenesis when it launches. Quote
FinalChaos Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Have completed Momoyo's route, going through Chris's route right now. Schnarf 1 Quote
BookwormOtaku Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Seeing as it's the last week of October I'm going to try finishing Umineko episode 4 so I can move on to Chiru. Glad to see it's moving quicker than where I left off Quote
Decay Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 You're not going to make it in time for the in-game halloween party, unfortunately. Quote
BookwormOtaku Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 You're not going to make it in time for the in-game halloween party, unfortunately. I'm guessing you're referring to something different from the opening kills of episode 1. Does Beatrice or Goldsmith summon a gun toting headless horseman to do the killings this time (at the very least that would be a bit challenging to prove as something non-supernatural)? Quote

This is a really minor spoiler but I'll still tag it. No, it's an actual literal halloween party. Fun times for all! Also, if you want the killings to be such a spectacle, well, keep reading Episode 4. But by that point, you should have beatrice's game pretty well figured out anyways. Quote

Desert35 Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Just finished Rewrite completely the Terra Route + the oppai ending and I loved them both expecially the oppay ending which almost killed me woth how much it made me laugh when I saw it I think now I'm gonna read either Comyu or If my heart had wings Quote
Nerathim Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Finished Symphonic Rain, I'm really satisfied by Phorni's route and Al Fine, made me forget the bad pacing from before and now I can end this VN with a good impression. Now on Yu-No and FHA. Just finished Rewrite completely the Terra Route + the oppai ending and I loved them both expecially the oppay ending which almost killed me woth how much it made me laugh when I saw it I think now I'm gonna read either Comyu or If my heart had wings Glad that you enjoyed it, and I'm impressed to see that you gathered the courage to meet the oppai ending requirements. (too bad that Rewrite wasn't entirely written by Ryukishi ) Quote
hydro Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 I've finished reading 3 routes in Yoakena, really enjoying it so far. The first thing would be to note that of the 5 routes translated, none of them have the awful tsundere/defrosting the ice queen nonsense so prevalent in romance stories. That is one hell of an achievement. I applaud whoever chose to translate these 5 routes over Freesia's, which I probably wouldn't read anyway. As it stands I plan to read all 5 translated routes. Despite liking Feena as a character, I wasn't too big on her route (which you're forced to do first). I'm not really a fan of "overcoming serious political issues that make a romance difficult". I don't mind adversity in general, I'm fine with seeing people overcome societal adversity for romance such as in incest stories (e.g. Yosuga no Sora and to a lesser extent Mai's route in this), just not big on Feena's kind of story. I liked Mia's route better, similar issues but far less problematic. The aforementioned Mai route was also nice. Will probably read Natsuki's next. A general comment I'll make about the routes is the romance felt pretty natural. None of it really seemed forced or rushed, despite the routes themselves not being too long. By the time the common route ends (the beach, I tested this/got the pretty fun bad ending), the main character is already fairly close to the girl who's route you've entered, and it progresses from there. Not an unusual way of doing things, but it's well executed here. Quote
FinalChaos Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Final impressions? Well the route is indeed very good. I definitely loved Kawakami War and the unexpected final boss was good too. As for Momoyo, the romance wasn't much good at first mainly because of Yamato getting obsessed with Momoyo, that did change after the war and yeah Momoyo was definitely cute then. If talking about routes - Momoyo route > Yukie route. If talking about the girls - Yukie > Momoyo. Quote

Kosakyun Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 If talking about the girls - Yukie > Momoyo. Excellent taste, sir. That's why I'll be going through Yukie's route first. I hope there's a variation of H-scenes. Last time I've heard of them, most were anal or something. Quote
