grim_tales1 Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Finished Killer Queen EP2 SPOILERS Episode 2 was more interesting than Episode 1, and the twist was well done I thought, but the backstory "Yuuki was abused and killed her father" seems weak.. my father was an asshole, so I'll adopt all his character traits and kill people? Granted she's seen some pretty messed up shit, but still. The actual ending for both episodes is shit, since we learn nothing about the real criminals motivation behind the 'Game', especially in Ep2 If Yuuki played the game multiple times how did she get into in the first place, and work out the rules without dying the 1st time round? dreamweaver Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Currently replaying Hoshimemo. Favorite's games are so fun to replay again and again. really hope someone translates Eternal Heart someday. Quote
Vokoca Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Just finished the first episode of Secret Game - Killer Queen. That was... boring, to say the least. Â KQ EP1 spoilers The characters were incredibly flat, including the boring protagonist and heroine. The only one that was even remotely interesting was Nagisa, and that was mainly just because of that last 'plot-twist' that came so out of nowhere that it was like the writer was desperately trying to make a shocking finale. I think plain and boring are the words that would describe the whole first episode in general. There was nothing too interesting happening, and I felt tempted to just skip through everything most of the time, though I did manage not to do that. The plot itself wasn't any more interesting than the characters, and even the ending that had the potential to be something pretty good was magnificently broken with a dumb excuse bending its own rules. I thought they would at least go into the characters' past a bit if nothing else, since that was the only thing Souichi had going for him with his dead friend, but nope, I guess that would've been too much effort! Â In short, the first episode does nothing new, and what it does do is incredibly half-assed and boring. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they hid some more interesting plot points for the later episodes, but after making it through this, I am really not looking forward to reading something similar three more times. :| A 6/10 so far at best. grim_tales1 Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Are you playing it in Japanese? I thought the remake was meant to be better? For me the first ep of KQ is also kinda boring. Quote

grim_tales1 Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I presume so, and I would guess a new story. Quote

invictus981 Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I just found out ever 17 wow this is an old one haha Oh and by the way which among you played Clannad? I'm about to start a serious run through of Clannad before moving onto Tomoyo After. I Think I'll play it along side another run through of KS. hey since when did you start playing that? I'm in Kotomi's route but I'm playing it without walkthrough's though.... Quote
Vokoca Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Wow this means it will be part of your lowest ranked VNs! To me 6/10 sounds pretty decent ^^; Â I just started ep 2 in Killer Queen, finished ep 1 a while ago but windows update fucked me over and I had to restore and lost a lot of stuf...... Anyway, I finished Ayakashibito a while ago, oh god the bittersweet Suzu ending. Also finished the 2 routes for Anna in Gekkou no Carnevale, which are probably kind of like the true endings, I liked them a lot. Oh yeah, it's not like it's horrible or anything. ^^ It might look really bad in comparison to the rest of my votes, but that only means I haven't played any bad VNs yet. Or that I can't vote D: Â How did you like Ayakashibito, by the way? I was planning to start it eventually, but the beginning didn't really grab me when I tried it some time back... Â Oh and by the way which among you played Clannad? It was one of the first VNs I've ever played. Very fun read, it's still one of my favourites when it comes to branching stories - that common route variation is crazy! I'd really like to see that in some other VNs too. Â By the way, you might want to edit your posts instead of multi-posting. :x Quote
Nyanko Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 Yeah, Killer Queen is far away from horrible but I agree it's nothing special either. Maybe it helps a bit that I didn't really expect it to be great anyway, but went in with a pretty open mind. Â I thought Ayakashibito was a bit too long for what it wanted to deliver, its really long...I also took so many breaks from it, almost after every route. But I always got back to it after a while, and now I finally finished it! If it was a bit shorter on the school life stuff it would've kept me hooked probably. There were some characters that were pretty nice and gave you feels though. Also if you like good fights and some supernatural stuff you should definitely check it out. The story is pretty interesting and every route has a lot of new content and different turn of events. My rating was 8/10 (I guess it will probably drop a bit in time because the feelings of the last route I read are still there atm but will probably disappear in a while, lol). Quote
Mr Poltroon Posted November 5, 2014 Posted November 5, 2014 I really enjoyed the first episode. Really hit the spot, I seem to like that kind of thing. Protagonist was wonderful for me and the sappiness with the girl was great too. Â I haven-t started episode 2, mostly because I fear things may get serious in this one, and that leads to my reduced enjoyment, unfortunately. Quote
BookwormOtaku Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Pretty much finished Kisaya's route in Harukoi Otome (haven't played the post credits epilogue); the payoff at the end was good enough but the buildup had so many annoying cliches. Started Ayaka's route; it's been good so far as the interactions between her Akihito have been, though I'm worrying that this game is going to give me another "heroine's annoying interfering friend" By all known divinities, I hate that trope Quote
theboxcarracer Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Alright, so I just finished all that I'm going to play of Never 7. That being the five main routes (Yuka, Haruka, Saki, Kurumi, and Izumi Cure A.)  It was alright, really just kind of middle of the road for me. Worth reading, sure, but there was nothing in there that really drew me in that deep.  I have no idea where I should go next, though. Kamidori is still on hold as I just don't really have any drive to play that right now. What I'm really craving is playing Majikoi again, but I want to wait until the patch is out (even if its going to take awhile.) I've just had Miyako on the brain lately, and would really like to play a VN with her or an extremely similar character in it.  I guess until then I'll slip back into Persona 3, it's actually been on hold for way longer than I meant it to be now. Unless I find something else that can distract me.  I actually downloaded Comyu, but my antivirus was not happy with that at all. Like, it's not really ever happy with my VN habits, but this time it just straight up said there were trojan horses in there and I'm terrible with computers so it scared me off. Quote
sirjabberwock Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 I'm considering skipping out on sleep to get started on Ayakashibito ! It's already 2 am for me, and I have to be up by 6 anyway, so me thinks it'll be worth it :3 Quote
miria Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 now playing   cartagra affliction of the soul  gorgeous art !!!!  and   plot  so good   and     Kara no Shoujo(blind playing witout   walkthrough) later i will play   Higurashi - When They Cry   and   legendary   Saya no Uta  Quote
Roach Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Playing Cartagra right now. It's quite interesting to see Shugo's serious side. miria 1 Quote
Kosakyun Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Going to start Ayakashibito today. Gonna sacrifice a few hours of sleep, I guess. Quote
Funyarinpa Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Finished AA Dual Destinies' DLC episode.  There were quite a few good twists towards the end. However, it wasn't all that good overall.  The history exam tomorrow never bothered me anyway Quote
TexasDice Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Is Kira*Kira readable? The novel looks like kinda neat, but this no-box-just-text-all-over-the-screen-thing seems a bit chaotic and messy.     Finished AA Dual Destinies' DLC episode.  There were quite a few good twists towards the end. However, it wasn't all that good overall.  The history exam tomorrow never bothered me anyway I'll probably just watch this case online then. I'm not willing to get 20 bucks of nintendo-money just to read a 5 euro dlc, especially if it's not worth it. Quote
Decay Posted November 6, 2014 Posted November 6, 2014 Â Is Kira*Kira readable? The novel looks like kinda neat, but this no-box-just-text-all-over-the-screen-thing seems a bit chaotic and messy. Â Â Yeah, it's absolutely readable. That's called the NVL (novel) format and a lot of games used to use it, although it's less popular now. Other notable games that use it are everything from Type-Moon (Fate/Stay Night) and 07th Expansion (Higurashi), as well as Saya no Uta and a bunch of other popular games. Sometimes games just use it for segments, like Grisaia no Kajitsu during the flashbacks and Rewrite during the entire final route. The standard text box format you're familiar with is referred to as the ADV (adventure) format. Â The benefit is that you're able to give long strings of unbroken narrative, which for the games and game segments I just mentioned is pretty important. It improves the reading experience during those long narrative segments. The downside is that the art is less visible, although you can always get rid of the text to get an unobstructed view of the art. For Kira Kira, I'd say that it probably didn't need to be NVL, and I'm not entirely sure why they went that way, but it's not any less readable because of it. I would also recommend Kira Kira, it's pretty good. Quote
TexasDice Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 You truly learn something new everyday.  Thank you again Decay. What would I do without you? Quote
SketchingPegasus Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Well visual novel wise, I'm working on Killer Queen O w O god It reminds me so much of the 999 nines series. It's very good I love it thus far And lately on my PSVITA I'm playing Freedom wars, which is a great game to be honest one of the best RPG's on my vita. Great character customization, weapon selection and story Quote
Wahfuu Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Playing Akagoei. 2 routes in (Tsukis and Taes) and man, I had heard legends about Kinugasa's inability to end things, but he SERIOUSLY cannot end anything. Quote
Kosakyun Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Of course, reading Ayakashibito. Â Suzu too cute. Quote
blackdemigod09 Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 I'm currently playing Comyu, and so far i'm liking it. Quote
