Tawm Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Currently playing Killer Queen. I'm around 8 hours in, and it's absolutely awful. Someone put in countless hours and effort into localizing it, but I don't see any redeeming value which warrant it so far. It must be one of those games you play solely for the ending, otherwise I fail to see why anyone would spend time on a localization. Ugly, generic art with reused backgrounds over and over and over and over. Generic character designs paired with throwaway stereotypes whom I don't care whether live or die. Music that is so generic, it required less effort to compose than a Nickelback CD. I'll finish it in a few hours, but please, someone help me understand why THIS out of all things was localized. Sorry to disappoint you, but there's not such a thing. At least not in the first episode-- the ending is just as awful and generic as the rest of the VN. I haven't read the rest yet myself, so maybe it does get better, but I can't find the energy to continue. Quote

I don't think I can stomach another 3-ish hours of this crap after all; and I sat through every route in Muv-Luv Extra, which should say a 1000 words about how unbearable Killer Queen is. Quote

FinalChaos Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Finished Tears to Tiara. Overall it was good and enjoyable, but I feel that it could have been much better. In the first half, the many scenes in which we are shown the casual days were pretty boring. Throughout the whole game I found myself much more interested in the events of the great war(the war that occurred long before the start of the game and is like the lore of the vn), I was interested in the great war but didn't really care much about what was happening in the present. The usual load of worthless h-scenes were also present. The heroines hardly got any character development. I am torn in my opinions towards Tears to Tiara as I fully loved it's lore and the philosophies it presented, but the character development of the heroines and hence the sense of attachment towards them was missing. Well, dear oh dear. I haven't started episode 2 yet, perhaps because I feel it may have a different atmosphere than the one episode 1 had. But I'll have to admit, that first episode was really my cup of tea. Enjoyed every moment of it. Quote
Rose Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Why? I'm assuming you already read it, so I'll be spoiling below Shirou in UBW was better than him in Fate, so I was expecting him to be a bit better in HF, which ain't really the case. Souichirou, Lancer and Assassin (Kojirou) are already out, and those were among my favorite characters so far. Also, the new assassin makes me wanna facepalm so hard. Quote
TexasDice Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Getting ready for Kira*Kira, I'm really looking forward to that. The current HoshiMemo readers should update in this thread more frequently, because I care. Quote
ServeTheServant Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Finished Steins; Gate -- might loop back to get 100% CG + achievements, but probably not. I'm satisfied with the true ending, it ends on enough of a conclusive note that I don't feel any need to revisit that world for a while. I started up Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, and I think I'll simultaneously read a moege. Maybe I'll just power through KonoSora's Ageha route, since it seems the 2nd planned Fuwa patch has stalled... or maybe Ikikoi? Dunno. Quote
Mephisto Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I'm playing 聖なるかな. So much text to read before getting to the gameplay. Gameplay is pretty much the same as Aselia's. Not really fond of the characters so far, preferred the ones in Aselia. Euphoria (yuuto and aselia's daughter) is nice, but she isn't part of the main story yet. Quote

TexasDice Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I love Kira☆Kira. I've read until the opening yesterday night and can't wait to continue further. Characters, script, tone, art, so far everything is awesome. My only quarrel: The novel format can make it hard to understand who's saying what at times. Not a big deal, as it's easy to figure out from reading through the log again. But I still wish they would've tagged names in front of each spoken word. ... and I guess this entire problem can be avoided by reading with voices on. But I hate doing that. Quote
Decay Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Oh yeah, if you don't have voices on, I guess that could be a problem. I always play with voices. Gotta love 07th Expansion's games, where the PC versions don't have voices and not even the back log will tell you who said what. So you just have to go by personality. Usually they change the sprite of the person when a new spoken line appears, but not always. But their personalities are distinctive enough that I never found it much of a problem. Quote

There's a character... named Euphoria? Nope, I won't be able to take that seriously at all. Thanks, Clock Up. Quote
Mephisto Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Euphoria was a word before someone made porn out of it . She somehow manages not to annoy me which is impressive for a young innocent energetic girl character. Quote
FinalChaos Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I'm planning to read Steins;Gate but I've heard there is another game in the franchise - Chaos;Head. So I was wondering which of the two games should I play first and there is also the anime adaptation. So could anyone help me with the recommended order ? Quote

So I was wondering which of the two games should I play first and there is also the anime adaptation. So could anyone help me with the recommended order ? They're in the same "universe", but the games don't really interact with each other plot-wise. There are a couple of brief easter-egg type references to Chaos;Head characters in Steins;Gate, but nothing that affects the plot. You can really just play whichever you feel like. Personally, I played C;H then a while later I played S;G... I'll probably watch the S;G anime in a few months when it's not as fresh in my mind to get more enjoyment out of it. I've heard the C;H anime is nothing special, feel free to just skip that. S;G is a better game in my opinion, but C;H is also a pretty enjoyable VN (the protagonist's personality excepted). Quote
Guest Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I'm playing Rewrite, I'm around 5/6 hours in, when does it stop being boring and starts making sense ? Some Characters are interesting, but by wanting to make the characters untypical they only made them inconsistent in the way they act, which is really disturbing. I'm having a hard time to get a grasp of their personnalities (Yoshino, MC, class rep for example) since they change attitudes incredibly fast for no apparent reason. We also get hints that strange stuff is happening and still have to go through not so interesting slice of life fluff. Come on game ! Take me to the real story, I don't care about stupid exams, drinking tea or whatnot. Quote
Kosakyun Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Still playing Ayakashibito. I'm in Touko's route. Wtf. I didn't expect Soushichi to actually let Hounan reside in him. What. Quote

Vokoca Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Finished Koyori's route in RuiTomo. The bit of drama at the beginning was pretty rough, but I've really enjoyed the rest a lot. Probably the best route so far - although it's kind of unfair to rate them in a VN with a structure where each route gives you a bit more info on the overall plot. Not sure if this is such a good choice-- but it is an interesting change from the usual formula. Iyo's route is next, and then finally the true one! Not sure how to feel about Akaneko being the true heroine, but I definitely don't dislike her either. She's mysteirous and fun, there's definitely stuff to look forward to. Just really interested in the main plot! I'm also still clinging onto the hope that Tomo does have some awesome power after all, and that they're just hiding it for the finale - but it really feels just a bit delusional at this point. Poor best girl. D: Quote
FinalChaos Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 The C;H anime is garbage, avoid it at all costs. The VN itself is great, though. I know pretty much everyone hats the MC, but I honestly liked him (I could relate to some things... a little ), and the first half has a really good atmosphere. Second half is very different, but still pretty good in different ways. Quote
FamedWolf Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Right now, I'm currently playing Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment. Couldn't get my hands for the Hollow Fragment cause I don't have a PSVita. The story is good and the graphics is awesome. Although the game is not patched in english (the storyline that is), you'll find the story translations on the web. Quote
TexasDice Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Crossdressing protagonist is now my favorite subplot ever. Why didn't I read KiraKira sooner? Quote
Desert35 Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Finished kotori's route in if my heart had wings yesterday. It was really enjoyable even with some problems in the translation but they are not enough to make it unreadable so now I'm going for Ageha which I heard the translation is far worse. Quote
