LiquidShu Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 Class prez and then the guy routes left in Majikoi. I have almost every extra unlocked but the event section seems rather bleak, is it supposed to be like that? Quote
TexasDice Posted May 4, 2015 Posted May 4, 2015 I've been playing Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney . I'm currently on Episode 3, third court trial. I screwed up on the second one. I forgot you must present the evidence on the exact statement that presents a contradiction to that piece of evidence lol. Yeah, I screwed up Cody's part. No matter though, since after I remembered, everything went smoothly again. Also, I find the characters fun. Maya's really fun, yeah. What an energetic girl. The Judge, hah. Gumshoe, well, I think he's a funny guy. Comic relief guy, yeah. I also think he's not that hot on making Phoenix Wright, since, well, he's helped a lot of times. A special mention to Miles Edgeworth as well, for Tiago. Also, I certainly did not expect that twist in the Steel Samurai Episode. Like, holy shit. I see why the series has a lot of fans. Quote
Decay Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I don't even know if it counts here, but I'll still put it. I've been playing Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney . I'm currently on Episode 3, third court trial. I screwed up on the second one. I forgot you must present the evidence on the exact statement that presents a contradiction to that piece of evidence lol. Yeah, I screwed up Cody's part. A special mention to Miles Edgeworth as well, for Tiago. Also, I certainly did not expect that twist in the Steel Samurai Episode. Like, holy shit. Anyway, everything's been going great and I've been enjoying what I'm playing. Just started yesterday. I'm not that hot on reaching the fifth case, since, well, I've read that it uses the microphone feature of the NDS, and I have no idea how to use that in an emulator. Unless the normal microphone works. I see why the series has a lot of fans. Normal microphones work just fine with emulators. It would be kind of weird if they didn't program that functionality. Phoenix Wright was a lot of fun to read. The case complexity just ramps up from here. It resets at the start of each game but each game is more complicated than the last. At least that goes for the original trilogy, case 3-4 is fucking bonkers. I never actually finished AA4 (and I don't have a 3DS so I never played that one). Quote
TexasDice Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I sincerely think that Trials and Tribulations was too difficult. Partially because of it's two instant game-overs, both of which are in fact really mean traps. (Costume and Visor) Investigations wasn't per se difficult, but it was easy to forget pieces of testimony, evidence or simply prior events in the middle of a cross examination, because the cases are incredibly looooong. Thank god I'm good at remembering stuff. I never actually finished AA4 (and I don't have a 3DS so I never played that one). I would wholeheartedly recommend Dual Destinies for the 3DS. I'd say it's below 1 and 3, but way above 2. I would not recommend Apollo Justice. Fans will play it anyway, (and should, because of DD,) but boy is it bad. Quote
Fred the Barber Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 so i stop playing vn's for a week return to rewrite and find out i was 2 lines of dialog from starting the actual story with lucia and now i'm in the hospital after the church scene FFS i taught it was over and now i have a feeling it is gonna turn into a reverse grisaia where lucia is gonna be someone like yuuji The thing about Rewrite is that you keep thinking you're getting a handle on what's going on, but really you have no clue. That holds basically up until you finish the True Ending. Also, it still kinda holds then; I'm still not entirely sure what happened. But it sure was an awesome ride! Quote
Decay Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Man, the characters in Swan Song really love their monologues, don't they? LiquidShu 1 Quote
Eclipsed Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Yumina Wtf the 2nd boss battle against Rei was soo hard (or rather, LONG) I almost lost cuz I wasn't paying attention to the 61% Approval Rating requirement but luckily Yumina's Shining Smile ability carried me >.> Quote
kamiwakai Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Finished the entire Ley Line trilogy in golden week. Tomorrow is the last day off... (sob) The first game is kinda shallow, the second gets revamped, make you laugh and blow your head with tons of new discoveries, then the third... starts slow and boring, introduce some twists in the middle, but then it makes the mistake of abusing the theme "magic" to introduce too many twists, so many that you think the world has no rules and everything is free for all, which is dull (writers lost control of their freedom "because well, its magic!") But has nice ending and wrap of story, and the second game was a lot of fun. Quote

TexasDice Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I was reading the translated part of incest. The Sora route, to be precise. Nobody likes to read long posts in this thread, so I'll make it short: I enjoyed incest a lot. It was very engaging, tense and touching, up until just before the ending. Everything kind of falls apart at the climax and that frustrates me. A lot. sarayne 1 Quote

Kosakyun Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Okay. So I finished Episode 3 and 4 in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. God. I did not expect Hammer to actually be the one who intended to murder someone. On the course of the trials, I asked myself what the heck Dee Vasquez's motive could possibly be. Of course, since playing visual novels required a little guessing and trial and error in some cases, I chose the first one: to present evidence. That gave me a penalization again. Anyway, was really surprised when I chose 'she had no motive' and it turned out to be the correct choice. I really did not expect that. I wonder what happened to her though? It was self-defense... I guess she still got into jail? Episode 4 was godly. I have no regrets. Definitely the best case so far out of all that I've read. Edgeworth had a great backstory. I screwed up at Lotta's trial, since I couldn't seem to see a contradiction. Good thing there are save states! Anyway, Yanni Yogi really was unexpected. When it was mentioned that Yogi had seemed to have brain damage due to oxygen deprivation, I instantly pointed my finger to that 'Wet Noodle' shop owner. I kinda feel sorry for him, since he took revenge on the wrong guys, and went to jail for it. It was awesome how the current case resurrected a case 15 years ago, the DL-6 incident. Who would've thought that Manfred von Karma was actually the killer? I wouldn't. But god, that trial was really good. He kept bluffing things, like conspiracy theories, and then it always hit the mark. Game script at its finest. Good thing I took the metal detector instead of the fishing rod. Screw you, Gumshoe, trying to give me a dog and a fishing rod. It was really good. Overall, I can say that I'm really liking what I'm reading, and may as well proceed directly to the second game after the fifth case. I don't skip stuff. My favorite character, for now, has to be Maya. I don't know why. She's just so fun. I felt a little sad when she was about to board the train though. I understand that that scene was supposed to be the ending scene for the first game. Thanks for adding another one, NDS version. Looking forward to playing the last case. I'm about to finish the game and I'm still nowhere with Forest. Agh. I read Kosugi's "route" in Majikoi S solely to see how bad it was. It's pretty much just a set-up for her h-scenes, with both Yamato and Kosugi saying "premium" about 50 times. Have to admit, it was rather clever how Minatosoft had her route get unlocked. To get the set-up, you go to the tutorial with Iyo and Kosugi 10 times, and to get her h-scenes you go through it 10 more times. That's all the praise I'm going to give it, though. There was literally no plot at all. I didn't expect it to be of premium quality in the first place Every time I read premium, I think of ice cream. Her scenes were the only one I read in the whole game. Probably because they're quite easy to get, and I wanted a scene. I was promised premium quality. ...All I get is ice cream. Decay Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 I finished Swan Song. I really didn't like the good ending. It felt rushed and kind of cheap, like it was just summarizing most of the events taking place without going into details, with very few character interactions. "And suddenly everything got better and everyone lived happily ever after, the end." Which is unfortunate because the normal ending is so eventful and interesting, even though I prefer good ends to depressing ones. To give a quick example: Regarding Taeko's integration into the school community, they just mention almost in passing in a couple paragraphs about how she faced a good deal of hate from the rest of the community but managed to persevere and things got better. We didn't get to actually see that happen or witness her struggles. Just a two paragraph summary and some fluffy dialog about her cooking abilities is all we got. And while I'm here in this spoiler tag, let me just vent at how they didn't explain the nature of the disaster. Some people knew what was going to happen and when, and the subsequent weather was highly unnatural. But beyond that, we got zero explanation whatsoever? Not even any further hints? What kind of crap is that? XReaper 1 Quote

Soulless Watcher Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Attempting to get all the endings in Toradora portable, it has been a pretty boring read overall. I was never a big Toradora fan in the first place, but many of these routes feel kinda cheap, which may just be the standard for anime vn "adaptions" since I feel the same for oreimo portable. Still havn't gotten to any of the "true" routes or Ami's endings (my personal favorite character from the show), so maybe things will pick up. Just started Ace Attorney Investigations 2, my God do I love the "Logic" chess. I hope it replaces the copy-pasted witness interrogation system that the first Investigations stole from Phoenix Wright. Quote

Turnip Sensei Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 I started my adventure to the world of untranslated VNs. I went with Totono because of all talk I heard about it, but also because I had some previous interest in it, since it's a nitroplus game. The first two hours were super slow, but after I got used to reading and using the text hooker, it became much more enjoyable. It's still clumsy and sometimes there are sentences I can't understand at all, but I can see the charm. I'm also really bad at memorizing stuff consciously, so forcing myself to read and memorizing kanjis in context helps a lot in my studies. Quote
