Vokoca Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I started playing Saya no Uta because to my knowledge it's short. The beginning was rather creepy but well, the scene afterwards kind of destroyed the impact. It feels a bit too obvious that the MC (Fujimoto or whatever) perceives the world the way he does because of that experimental surgery. If the whole VN is like this, it'll lack the surreal, confusing atmosphere I was expecting. From what I have seen (I'm currently at the check-up scene) if the game tries to subvert this theory that the experimental surgery (or at least the accident) is the cause of the MC's warped world view it'll feel a bit too forced because of all the clues and details in the "talk in the cafeteria" scene (same dialogue, slime = spit, money leaving is the same (though I think there was one extra line?) et cetera) Still quite enjoyable so far! The whole warped perception of the world thing is just the setting. It's just the setup, not really the actual story - I think what you get at the beginning is as much info on it as you're really going to get in the entire VN, the focus is somewhere else entirely. I hope you enjoy it, Saya no Uta is one of my favourite VNs! Quote
the_dive Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Finished Dra Koi, Yin Yang Alt, Haruko Maniax. Time to cry my eyes out with Kana Imouto Quote
AlexZandria Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Been playing Little Busters! for the last 5 hours apparently...it's actually surprisingly good so far and the whole aphorisms part had me cracking up so hard. I put it down for now because I was in the living room and my whole family is watching tv and trying to talk but I'll definitely curl up in bed with it again tonight. Quote
Vokoca Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 And just finished Harumade, kururu. This VN is a fine example of why even if you are going to rely on different genres, you absolutely need great comedy and likeable characters as well - that is to say, this VN is an example of how to do it perfectly well. HaruKuru puts you through 15 (yes, 15) h-scenes before it even gets to the real plot - and you know what? I've thoroughly enjoyed all of them. If Makina's h-scenes in GnK were funny, HaruKuru's are hilarity incarnate. I haven't laughed this much in quite some time, and on porn at that.... well played Watanabe, well played. Of course, the hard sci-fi is amazing when it comes to it, but the less you know about that the better - there's enough spooky foreshadowing in the harem prelude to give you an idea of what might be coming, and looking for those is incredibly fun. Overall, a 9/10 from me, it was an incredibly satisfying experience. What do I read now, though...? Is it finally time I catch up on the MajiKoi hype? Quote
Deep Blue Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 I can't stand the rape scenes anymore from sukui no serenade, the plot it's alctually good and some of the characters are interesting but there is so much rape Quote
TexasDice Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 My opinion of Creepy Teacher Simulator.exe aka Canvas 2 went up a notch. I remembered someone (Decay...? I forgot, sorry ;-; ) praising Tomoko's route when I complained about the VN in the past. So yesterday I thought: "eh, why not" and marathoned it. Surprise, surprise: A very enjoyable read, solid through and through. I don't regret being sleep deprived now. And speaking of not going to sleep, I pondered about Tomoko's voice for quite a while, until it hit me during the sex. Over the head. With a figurative phone pole. That's quite an impressive range, even though it immediately falls apart whenever a script asks for "nyaaaah!?" or *moaning*. Quote
Decay Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 I didn't actually like Tomoko's voice a lot of the time but sometimes it was pretty good. But yeah, her seiyuu has some good range. She also voiced Kokoro from Majikoi, and it's normally an ear-splittingly shrill voice but every once in a while you'll hear Michiru from Grisaia in there and it feels strange because it's otherwise completely different. storyteller Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Someways in through My Own Invention in Subahibi. I'm not sure if/when i will continue. Quote
Yuuko Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 What do I read now, though...? Is it finally time I catch up on the MajiKoi hype? I can tell you what to read now : 3 Quote
Nerathim Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Reading through Hanachirasu, I seriously underestimated this VN. Akane might already be one of my favorite protagonist and the battles, although heavy to read, are really interesting. I've never been this captivated by fights in a VN, it also teached me some fun stuff which is great. Quote
Josephl64 Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Just finished Raidy III, now onto Yumina the Ethereal Quote
MFrost Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Finishing the Agave route of Majikoi then on to Majikoi S! Quote
Funyarinpa Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Some more impressions about Saya no Uta Half the soundtrack sounds like perfectly serviceable Pink Floyd intros. One in particular sounds like Hey You. I just met Saya. I know that the game has twisted sex scenes (and something about a car accident when I stumbled on a VN entry in a fucking Turkish gaming magazine which got me so stumped that I involuntarily read the first few lines) and fuck this shit could get weird real fast. I found that I like the art style. Reminds me of something... And if my little sister wasn't blasting scummy pop music from her iPod three meters from me the game could be much more immersive >_> update: I shouldn't have been playing this in the living room that CG came out of fucking nowhere O_O Also good job on creating this amazing atmosphere (also the BGM sounds like Welcome To The Machine now) Quote
Funyarinpa Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Why the actual hell were you playing Saya no Uta in your living room? xD The violence and hallucinations alone would be enough to make parents go, "What the fuck are you looking at?!" the screen was not facing them but with suddenly appearing loli porn I am not taking chances Quote
AaronIsCrunchy Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Remembered I bought eden* way back in the Steam summer sale and haven't played it yet, so I'm waiting for it to download and I'm gonna read it tomorrow. Quite excited to read it, heard good things about it. Will be a good way to celebrate finishing my summer job I think Quote
the_dive Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Finished Kana Imouto. Went exactly how I expected it to go. Shorter side of the 10-30 hours range. 8/10. The differences in the endings were nice to see. Ending 2 was the most depressing for me IMO, damn hearing her say she doesn't wanna die is a real tear jerker. Sucks for Yumi though, she gets the short end of the stick in almost all the routes. Jeez what the hell did she see in the MC that she would wait over 10 years (!!!) for him after being treated like that. Gonna go try and marathon the Umineko series now. Probably too long though. Hopefully its good as its hyped up to be. Quote
Funyarinpa Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Saya no Uta This shit is better than I expected (despite playing it while my cousin and sister are in the same room while the lights were on). I think I'm right before the second h-scene This shit is fucking great So beautifully fucked up ENTER SAYAMAN LYRICS: "Hush little baby, don't say a word And never mind that noise you heard It's just the beasts under your bed In your closet, giving you head" Quote
Slowpoke Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 Why the actual hell were you playing Saya no Uta in your living room? xD The violence and hallucinations alone would be enough to make parents go, "What the fuck are you looking at?!" I remember trying to play it in my living room and that was a terrible idea :'D Not only gore and weird shit, but uhh sexy stuff with a child? Yeah no loool Quote
LinovaA Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Finished up Houkago no Futekikakusha and I must say I am kinda disappointed. While I did enjoy it in the beginning, my enjoyment quickly tapered off after finishing Asagao's route and proceeding to about the end of Shiori's route. It isn't a bad visual novel... I just think it didn't suit my tastes. It just ended up being a little too repetitive, and sadly the repetitiveness drew me out of the story, so I lost out on a lot of the impact that would have been there otherwise. My rating on VNDB for it will probably change, but for now it will stay where it is. It has strong cast of characters, a nice art style, and an OST that I wish I could find on YouTube. However, it just didn't end up jiving with me. I do love my utsuge, but the repetitive nature of the plot didn't end up suiting my tastes very well. Anyway, I am off to read Konata yori Kanata made now. Quote
bogdankl Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 i did not think majikoi could get any stupider, but then i started playing the future without a relationship and witnessed momoyo kamehamehaing a giant formed out of many students stacked up also I think Chosokabe's voice actor is the same voice actor that does franky in the one piece anime, i mean they both seam to be perverts with a tendency to strip so.... edit: why do two of the interesting grills have no routes<Seiso and Yoshitsune>, well i guess I'll find out later in the story but still... if in the first on they turned a blind eye in the other routes to the events that occur in the agave route i don't see why they would hold back now Quote
Zantax Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Reading AstralAir, Ochiba route. Seriously, I never really liked Kotori, even during her own route, but after that scene on bridge I really just hope she will be killed -.- Or at least punch in the face hard enough to erase that annoying smirk of her face... Also I hope whole Valken (or how I can call it in english) will be razed to do ground in at least one route... I know Favorite loves showing people as bad guys at first and convince us that they are not so bad later, but some people in that facility really deserved to be smacked in the face... Edit. 琴里「私の刀に斬れないものはない……」 Seriously, can someone kill her? After Kotori route hearing that for the billion-th time just drives me mad Quote
kingdomcome Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Currently dong Kazuko's route in Majikoi. It's so sad when the 3 guys (Yamato, Tadakatsu, and Hideo) confess their love to her. They all seem to have deep feelings for her, and their histories go back to their childhoods. Canicheslayer 1 Quote
Slowpoke Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Im really enjoying Kara no Shoujo. Its holding my interest which a lot of VNs dont. I like that the storyline doesnt really change, you just see h-scenes with the girl you like. And then you can go to the true end after. Man this is good. Canicheslayer 1 Quote
Chuee Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 琴里「私の刀に斬れないものはない……」 That line gets me hard no lie. Also I hope whole Valken (or how I can call it in english) will be razed to do ground in at least one route... I know Favorite loves showing people as bad guys at first and convince us that they are not so bad later, but some people in that facility really deserved to be smacked in the face... They aren't exactly supposed to be bad guys, it's just that one scene in Ochiba's route that really shouldn't have been there. Quote
