Kanbe Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Kind of a topic I want to touch on. Does VNs having multiple artists is a good thing or does it turn you off (or you just don't care). Example: Grisaia, Hatsuyuki Sakura, Clover day's Quote
Yuuko Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I don't know which artist made what in HatsuSaku but Nozomu seemed really weird sometimes. As long as there is no big change in the art style I don't care. Quote
Nerathim Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Not at all, in Grisaia it wasn't really apparent and the characters blended well. Same opinion for Rose Guns Days, although it is more obvious that there is many different artists, the coloring mixed the characters in a very good way. Still, character-design in VNs is very often completely generic and only hairs and clothes serve as a mean to distinguish characters. Quote
Ene Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I don't really care about it. Most of the time I don't even notice it. Quote
XReaper Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 for the sake of consistency i dispise the whole idea Quote
Zodai Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 The core of this is a question about aesthetics rather than simply being by different character designers - if the games aesthetic as a whole is consistent you won't notice a thing, but if you decide to put characters from Sekian, F/SN, SubaHibi and 'random moege X' side by side you're bound to notice the aesthetic difference. Nosebleed Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 It comes down to the final product for me. Having two (or more) different artists doesn't say anything about the quality of the finished product so it's not something I like to judge beforehand, unless I have precedent of said artists working together and know what they usually produce. Nashetania Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Reminded me of MGQ... That has shit ton of artists and I like only few Quote
AaronIsCrunchy Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Pretty much what has been said already - if it looks somewhat homogenous and there's no glaring artistic differences, no issues whatsoever. It sometimes annoys me when CGs have different appearances to sprites, but then it's a different kind of drawing anyway. Quote
Funnerific Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 It was pretty noticeable that Michiru and Yumiko in Kajitsu had a different artist behind them, particularly obvious in the HCGs. Quote
Suzu Fanatic Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 I personally don't care, as long as it's not a really obvious distinction (but then again I have bad eyes, so gotta love subjectivity). In some ways though, one could say it keeps the characters from looking "cookie-cut" - with the minor distinctions between artist styles. Quote
Flutterz Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Not really, as long as they're not as different as original Higurashi sprites and Rewrite. Little Busters has two artists and I didn't even realize it until someone pointed it out to me. Quote
Satsuki Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 As long as they don't suck, then I'm good. The new title from LoS has 4 heroines drawn by 4 different artists, and I'm still fine with it Quote
