Hello guys, I am new to vn's and I have only read Hoshizora no Memoria and Deardrops. What I am looking for is a vn that has good story and colourful characters(both I read had pretty nice characters which is why it kept me going). It would be great if its a long read(After reading HoshiMemo, Deardrops felt short). Also please suggest translated ones. And yes I have watched Grisaia series anime but I think its vn fits my requirements, so should I read it or no? I mean I know a lot of things that were shown in anime, will it be still worth reading? Same with Umineko. Thanks :).

I am sorry if its hard to recommend anything reading the description but I tried my best to explain it.

You can always go with:

ef - a fairy tale of the two (Great and long romance VN)

Eden* They Were Only Two, On The Planet (Short and cheap romance VN from the same developer as of ef, it's kinetic novel so you don't make choices in here, still great read, known for awesome visuals)

Both above are pretty touching, so maybe not colorful characters but still worth read.

Majikoi (You can always go for good "old" Majikoi, characters are pretty good in here, and it's long :))

As for Grisaia, hmm I'm actually reading this one since 27~~ Sept, and I'm nearing completion of last route(Yumiko, save best for last) I think it would be good for you to read it in a year or two, when you'll forget a lot of things.

As for Umineko, there's currently upcoming Mangagamer translation of it with some "shitty" pachinko art, but the PS3 assets/voices patch will come, as for release? The first ep will be available in 2016(probably) Current 1-4 Witch hunt Umineko translation is kinda meh/bad. You can try to get into alpha testing of 1080P PS3 ported and TLCed version of Umineko through https://umineko-project.org/en/ The game looks really amazing with all the effect and other things. You can wait for all 4 eps to be released by either Umineko Project or Mangagamer(MG will probably have better translation, but UP will have every other thing better) So currently UP: 2 eps released 3 alpha release will probably happen in this year. And all 4 eps will probably be out in 2016. As of MG... Hmm maybe 2017. And as always I'll include my old yt video showing how the UP version looks(sound is a bit... fked up, have some problems with my PC I guess):

Grisaia is definately a good bet, anime is no where as good as VN. (Michiru best girl.)

G-Senjou no Maou and Sharin no Kuni are two safe bets as well.

I'll also second Ef and Eden, they're both good but Eden is pretty short. Majikoi is one of the funnier VN's i've read, characters have depth and is a genuinely very fun read and entertaining as all hells.

First I recommend Steins;Gate. It definitively got a colorful cast (the main character can fill up a whole VN himself) and as long as you're not afraid of a little techno-babble it also got a really good story. It's also endearingly proud of how nerdy it is which I like.

Second I recommend Little Busters, got a good memorable cast and it's far from short. Be aware it got some heavy drama in the actual routes in contrast to the common route where it's simple feel good comedy. Some of it can feel a bit forced and out of nowhere, I personally didn't mind it but I know other people did.

Since you liked Deardrops you might also want to check out KiraKira since it is set in the same universe. It's quite different though and you kind of spoiled one of the endings by reading Deardrops first but it is still definitively worth reading. Also just like Deardrops it has a main heroine that gets more focus than the rest but unlike Deardrops the other routes still feel complete and not just slapped on. If you like it you might also later read the crossover fandisc that features both the cast from Deardrops and KiraKira. Don't bother with Curtain Call though unless you're really interested in what happens with Murakami because he is sadly the only interesting part of it.

Thanks for the quick reply guys. I will look into those. Maybe I will read Grisaia after some time. :)

It seems none here have informed you, and in case you didn't know, Eden* and Ef are pretty damn depressing games. While some of what you mentioned is nakige, Ef and Eden* are both utsuge which tries to make you feel like crap when you're done. I'll admit they are good stories though.

Thought it might be good to be aware of it at least :P
