Nosebleed Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Usually I wouldn't make a topic for a single manga being licensed, but it's worth noting this is Sekai Project's first ever manga license, and it's a pretty popular one too, so I thought it'd be interesting to discuss. First off, at least there was no kickstarter, so props for that. It's interesting to see SP expanding their business beyond visual novels, although I think they've stated before they wanted to expand? Either way manga is definitely a good market to tap into since its considerably more popular than VNs are, and there won't be any scandals over muh pr0nz either. Seems like a win overall for them and I look forward to seeing what other franchises they bring over, if any. Preorders for volume 1 and 2 are open and the scheduled release date for volume 1 is the second quarter of 2016. mitchhamilton Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 it really amazes me how far Sekai Project has come in such a short amount of time. even if its mostly with the help from kickstarter, its still amazes me. good for them. didnt they start out as just a fan translation team and in the process of that got picked by some western company? now they got enough support to bring clannad over in the western market AND have it on steam. Bravo SP, bravo. Quote
Soulless Watcher Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Hopefully people will fall in love with gate further, since the manga is superior in every way to the half-assed a-1 pictures adaptation. After the rage faded from my blood and was replaced with apathy I will admit that the anime isn't bad, but it is lazy as all hell. To the point that I still am puzzled on whether or not the anime is trying for the younger audiences or if it only comes off like that because the animators are lazy/overworked/underfed/gotajobatthestudioduetonepotism. Well anyways glad to see that I will be able to get a physical copy of the manga soon. Quote

"Ok, so we started, NOW fund us plox." Well this is cool. I personally would have liked to see them go into Light novels as a lot of those needs lisencing. But manga is good as well. Fun to see sekai project moving beyond just visual novels. Quote
Abyssal Monkey Posted January 19, 2016 Posted January 19, 2016 What are the chances this falls into the trap of not releasing fast enough. I can stand crunchy as they do near simultaneous releases, but I really don't know about this. They seem to be attempting to release by tank instead. I really hope this doesn't end up like Yenpress and their Light Novel which we will never see the end of due to their slow release dates. I can only hope that they start putting them out quicker than release to catch up, otherwise I can forsee issues appearing and complaints from people who have read the translated releases up to current. No one wants to wait a year or more to finally read the next chapter in a story that could have been out the next month. The other thing I'm worried about is their translation. I'd love to believe in Sekai, but having no personal experience, other than knowing that they had Koestl do Grisaia, I'm somewhat worried. Translators are really hit and miss, even within companies. This being a start of the manga venture gives me some hope of the quality control, but you never know. Quote
