Scars Unseen Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I used to work for an ISP. The ISP isn't tracking your torrents(or at least the one I worked for didn't). They couldn't care less what you do; they only care about bandwidth. It's the content owners that are sending lists of violations to the ISPs, who then just forward them to the users(and sometimes disable your account depending on the individual ISP's policies). So you almost certainly are not going to get letters for currently running anime, as the studios in Japan usually don't have an American presence. Licensed anime might be a problem depending on whether the distributor plays in those reindeer games. Quote
Kenshin_sama Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Oh, I see. I wasn't entirely sure how things worked with ISPs. Thanks for clearing that up. Quote
Scars Unseen Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Believe me, no one at an ISP wants to send those letters. The content providers only have the IP Address, so someone at the ISP(me) has to match the IP Address with a modem's MAC Address and then identify the customer with that modem. It's a pain in the ass, and as an added bonus, you get to discover your customer base's porn habits. Trust me, this is knowledge you don't want. Quote
Kenshin_sama Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 Yeah, I'm sure they'd cringe at half of the stuff I download from EXHentai! Quote
starkweather Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 If you use Comcast, Time Warner, or ATT, you might. But they usually won't do anything serious on the first offense. I use Brighthouse (Florida only) and they have not gotten on my case about torrenting at all. And even then, those 3 I mentioned probably won't care if the material you're downloading does not have origins in this country. I'd also suggest leaving Pirate Bay alone. But yeah, I've been torrenting for years and my ISP has not gotten on my case at all. I don't even use a proxy or VPN. But I actually would like more confirmation on Comcast. The area I'm moving to has Comcast instead of Brighthouse and I'm a bit worried on what to do with torrenting. Anyone have any suggestions? I've heard about Comcast throttling torrents too. I hope there are good alternatives where I'm moving to. I'll likely invest in a VPN if I can't find one. i do use one of those. i torrent vns just fine but i imagine it has to do with them not being licensed in America. I used to work for an ISP. SanadaShadow Posted July 4, 2014 Posted July 4, 2014 I usually just dig deep into the recesses of the internet as any other method is impractical for me. I can't use torrents or direct downloads as they would fill up computer space quickly, and hard drive space is one thing I don't have enough of. I also buy them at times, but that's rare as I prefer subtitles and I prefer to watch shows quick. Also, torrenting it when you can stream it seems like a waste of time to me. I prefer PinoyAnime or AnimeFave for most of my anime needs. If I can't find it there, I look everywhere. Oh, and I tend to avoid Crunchyroll and Funimation. Quote
Monmon Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Because Edward Kenway's blood runs through my veins so to honour him i`m torrenting all my animes(Both raw and subs). and i have many HDs so i can store all of my animes. Strangely though i downloaded animes that i found uninteresting, but in the end i watched it in the end. And i watched all my animes at least 2 times(for the first time and second time i`ll go raw). I bought some BD for Anime that i really like too. but i didn't open it(its for collecting purposes only). Quote

So whoever at the ISP is processing the C&Ds has to open the file and add in the infringing party's information. If it helps, I don't think I ever actually processed any C&D orders for anime. That doesn't mean it can't happen, but companies like Funimation may not even be looking. starkweather 1 Quote
starkweather Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 thanks for the info. its pretty interesting hearing about it from someone that has actually done the work. i guess i'll just have to decide if the benefits outweigh the risks. Quote
Scars Unseen Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 The thing to remember is that hunting down infringers isn't free. You either have to pay people or pay for software licenses(most likely both) in order to find the content and the people downloading it. The Big Media corps can afford to swallow that cost in hopes of deterring piracy. Smaller companies have to weigh the potential benefits against the very real costs. Quote
SanadaShadow Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 So they'll take them down as fast as possible? Gotta finish my anime fast. Quote
Mr. Meogii Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 I stream the stuff. Mostly because I lack sufficient space to keep all my anime. Quote

alfredo094 Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 I try to keep it as legit as possible. I have this deal with a friend where he gives me Crunchyroll and he gives me Netflix, and I'm working around to getting free account of Hulu despite not living in the U.S. However, it really can't be helped when the material just doesn't reach us, and since I hate seeing anything in general in my computer, I download the torrent and put the files on a USB so I can watch on a Blu ray or something. Heizei_koukousei Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 If you have 5mbps or faster, you can easily stream. But once you watch in 1080 (720 preferably if your monitor is less than 42") you see how crappy streams are. Nyaa should be your best friend Quote
