No I am not confusing nukige and eroge.

The first VNs made in the 80s were nukiges and so are most of the VNs now. Nukige is the mother of the genre. You can't say it gives the genre a bad reputation when they are what the genre is made of. The few odd ones that are all-ages are rather the ones that are twisting the meaning of the genre and trying to make it different.

Maybe the very first from pre-85 era, there were plenty of all ages ADV in the 80s

I don't buy into the idea that pornographic sex scenes enhance romance. What it does do is deliver a certain kind of cathartic gratification as they deliver a sort of payoff for the buildup that came before. Standard charage h-scenes are cheap way to deliver a climax for a relationship arc, one that requires little thought or creativity.

Many of people here said something about 'pay-off'. But h scenes are rarely that. Most of the times they just 'happen', there is no buildup to them. no chemistry between characters, no intimate moments, neither those little 'sparks' that emerges in people eyes when they start to feel lust for each other, etc. Most of the times it's 'I always daiski'ed you protagkun - I suddenly felt like I love her too - sex scene'. It's nothing deeper than porn, no catharghic experience, no tension relief, nothing like that.

I wonder how many potential customers MG has lost after they've stumbled onto their site and saw what it contains?

And how it looks. This shit is nasty. I once wanted to download a demo (Tokyo Babel iirc) and I couldn't do that, because I had other people in my room, and that site would no doubtely bring some frowns if somebody would see that.

What I'm saying is that there's a degree of payoff in a porn scene between the two. You are right when you're breaking down what the h-scenes mean for the story, but what you don't understand is how that experience can feel for many people with different expectations than yourself. I believe that people desire and find a sort of release from those scenes for the same reason that many people seek out erotic fan fiction. It's really hard to explain.
