good enough to learn japanese? no way  nothing extraordinary or anything.

try using a machine translator, the protagonist uses short sentences most of the time(he is also voiced so it's easier to follow up if you understand the basic) and you have the dialogues between him and his little daughter which are really easy to follow too, so you can give it a try and see if you can read it that way.
