Animes and eroges/VNs that changed your life

What animes, eroges, or VNs changed your mind or your way to see the world? I think it's more oriented to the ones you played saw when you were younger, because our minds are more moldeable the younger we are.

I'd like you to write about why did 'em change you.

In my case I can talk about these:

Anime:

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo: I personally feel identified with ALL the characters.

Eroge/VNs:

Katawa Shoujo: I think it's a game that changed the mind of alomost everyone that has played it. It changed my point of view about disabilities and disabled people.

Oreimo season 1 and season 2 : it's change my mind how to be a real brother

Little Buster : it teach me not to waste my precious youth time

Eroge/VN :

Tomoyo After : i think this is the best love story on earth

Rewrite : same as little buster but it teach me when you still youth do something idiot before too late

Durarara - don't assume you fully know someones life because you're their friend.

Clannad - this anime personally changed a lot of things in my view of life. But the biggest one is probably the fact that even if you're a delinquent, low grade, social outcast, you can still find happiness in life. Which took a lotta stress off my back. Course I'm still going to try in school though lol.

Ano hana - don't let losing a friend change you. If you've actually watched Ano Hana you might find that confusing, but think about it a lil harder. Imagine if she never came back. Now you should understand.

VN: Id have to say Kanon. It was the first VN I played and since then I haven't looked back.

Anime: there are Anime that have really stayed with me over the years, but I will have to say, Mobile Suit Gundam. The original one from 1979-80. I watched it as it aired (i lived in Japan) and now Ive seen thousands of hours of anime. Hell i ve spent thousands of dollars on my collection.

Changed my life?

It's a difficult question, because I see life-changing experiences (in this case manga/anime/visual novel) as lessons for the most part. Almost all of the Vns and Mangas that I've read - I read for entertainment, so it's very hard to actually pick the ones that are awe-inspiring...

Hmmm, I know for certain that the manga named [Ai-Ren] changed me. I've never been in despair, I've never thought that death could be that close, I've never known what the true meaning of hope and life means. Reading this definitely made me rethink of what I've done, I am doing and I'll do.

As for VNs, I'll say that one of Akane Senri's statement in her route of the infamous Rewrite really made me thinking. Something like: "To make a decision does not only mean to choose something. It also means to give away something else." I'm sticking to that principle for life.

VN: Id have to say Kanon. It was the first VN I played and since then I haven't looked back.

Kick ass, Kanon was my first official VN too, (I say official because I played one or two freeware VNs first). Anyway, while Kanon is brilliant, I watched the 2006 anime first, so that had more of an effect on me then the VN did.

I played a decent amount of VNs, and while some really got me to think and challenge ideas, the only one that had a permanent effect on me was Yume Miru Kusuri. I always knew bullying was bad and never supported it, but this VN got me to realize just how terrible an effect bullying can have on the victim(s). Before I read Yume Miru Kusuri when the topic of bullying arose I would think something along the lines of, "yeah that sucks and all, but I'm not a bully so what do you expect me to do about it?" Then after I read Yume Miru Kusuri I socialized with the kids who got made fun kids more. I never went to a school that had a huge bullying problem, it was usually just malicious comments, but I still tried to make kids who felt outcasted feel more at home.

As for anime the three that I would say changed me perspectives the most were Kanon 2006, Kaiji, and Berserk. Kanon was the first anime that got me to realize that anime was more than just mere entertainment, but that it could tell very strong, and excellent stories. If it weren't for Kanon I kind of doubt I would be the otaku I am now...

As for Kaiji and Berserk, they forever changed me views about capitalism and ambition. I think Kaiji is the reason I sympathize with socialist ideals so much, and why I disdain capitalism as much as I do. (Don't get me wrong, as nice as Marxist ideals are, their unrealistic and capitalism is the only system that satisfies the greed in us all. But just because capitalism accommodates human nature, it doesn't mean I have to like it!) Berserk pretty much reinforces the beliefs I've cultivated from Kaiji. Basically that ambition and greed will lead to your own ruin.

"Change my life" might be a slight exaggeration. However, Chobits and Planetes both certainly made me view my definition of anime differently than what I assumed anime was. Chobits showed me anime could be funny while still delivering and focusing on some serious issues. Plantetes showed me exactly how thought provoking and how much depth a great anime could have. I, to a certain extent got lucky as these two shows were among the first ten or so I ever watched...and the rest, as they say, is history, lol.

I'm not a huge fan of anime so I wouldn't say that any anime has changed my life.

For eroge, I would have to say Saya no Uta. My favorite love story of all time and an amazing experience which I will never forget.

I loved Sakurasou as well. A bit fan of anyone who knows what they want and is going after it.

I could say Narcissu changed my life. It introduced me to VNs, and now I'm building games that are at least in some ways related to that format. Narcissu also introduced me to a few Japanese friends. We got to hang out during my trip a few years back. It's great how a game can bring people together like that.

Kawana Misaki's route from ONE also taught me a lot as well. It showed me that the best stories are about people, among many other lessons.

Can't think of any anime that changed my life~ I do respect Sola, Madoka and Tokyo Magnitude quite a bit, though.

ONE (especially Misaki's route) is pretty good. Unfortunately, it often gets under appreciated due to lack of knowledge about it. Kanon/ Clannad/ and Air are respected and well known due to having anime adaptations. While Kanon will always be my favorite Key work, it saddens me to know Kanon's illegitimate older sister is an obscurity. ONE needs a good anime adaptation, preferably by Kyoto Ani.

I think Misaki's route trumps the story of every game created by Key~ Actually, ONE did have an OVA. I've heard KyoAni did it but I'm unable to confirm. At any rate, it was TERRIBLE, which is so unfortunate. Yeah, really wished it was given another chance!

Steins;Gate anime. Holy shit, holy shit.

Episode 13 is like... the best anime episode ever for me. The way it was directed and the content of the episode had my mind blown out of my ears. Nothing came close to it from everything what I've watched so far.
