What VN did you go in not expecting much, and get blown away by?

A few years back. Dengkei Stryker.  It looked kinda silly and poor overall, but I had nothing else to read so I tried it. Right away it gripped me, by being quite darker than I thought with the intro. Then it went to the kinda comedy / generic story I thought it was going to be.

Then...it just kept going...and going...and new routes unlocked, and new story twists, and this generic looking VN somehow ended up having a very endearing story.
