Windows Keeps Lowering my Volume! (SOLVED)

I get lots of PMs about this, so I thought I'd post the solution publicly:

If Windows repeatedly lowers the volume of a VN you're playing, despite your efforts to go into the sound mixer and raise it again, try the following:

Windows 7 automatically lowers speaker volume when it detects communication activity (A microphone-enabled game for example). You can turn this off though.

Navigate to:

Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Audio properties -> Communications tab

Select Do Nothing from the dropdown box. Apply & OK.
