TheAngelOfPain Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 I have a problem with some games, for example when i launch Shuffle it goes to a black screen and then just stops there, nothing happens and i have to reboot my pc. It worked just fine up until a few days ago, but then it suddenly started doing the black screen thing. Please help.
Guest Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 hey is this happening for all games? could be a bad virus
Kendjin Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 Can you post your system spec please If you don't know it, download and run Speccy Portable, and hit publish and post the url it gives you here.
TheAngelOfPain Posted August 2, 2013 Author Posted August 2, 2013 This is my system spec: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/fCRrPsnT3EujRExS1i2Ev8t
Kendjin Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 First thought is something to do with the laptop switching to NVIDIA graphics instead of the on-board. I know this is the usual line, but have you tried updating the NVIDIA graphics drivers? Also, does this do this just on VN games, windowed or fullscreen or both? One thing to try is to go into NVIDIA control panel and try to FORCE the laptop to use NVIDIA or onboard.
REtransInternational Posted August 5, 2013 Posted August 5, 2013 You should also do a chkdsk, to ensure there is no filesystem corruption.
TheAngelOfPain Posted August 7, 2013 Author Posted August 7, 2013 I think it only happens on fullscreen.. How can i fix that?
TheAngelOfPain Posted August 8, 2013 Author Posted August 8, 2013 I have tried updating my NVIDIA graphics drivers, but it did not help...
REtransInternational Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 It worked just fine up until a few days ago Do you remember doing anything in particular between when it last worked and didn't? Did any automatic updates install? There has to be something changed.
Darklord Rooke Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 There has to be something changed. If it was working fine before but now it doesn't, do you think a system restore is something the OP should consider?
TheAngelOfPain Posted August 9, 2013 Author Posted August 9, 2013 I have tried to do a system restore, but it did not fix the problem... I can play visual novels in windowed mode, but if I try switching to fullscreen it gives me the black screen...

I found someone who experienced your exact problem and he found turning off his firewall before launching the game did the trick. Might be something worth trying? http://www.telltalegames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32232
TheAngelOfPain Posted August 9, 2013 Author Posted August 9, 2013 I just tried turning off windows firewall and Bullguard firewall, and it actually worked so I guess I just have to turn off the firewalls everytime I want to play a visual novel...

Excellent news Also, you don't have Bullguard firewall and Windows firewall turned on at the same time, do you? If you have more than 1 firewall running, they can conflict and things can become ... problematic. Happy gaming
REtransInternational Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Slightly odd that a firewall of all things would interfere with fullscreen mode, but good to see you found the cause and solved the problem.
