Which version of Higurashi are you playing? Steam release? Old localization release? The Japanese release itself?

are your locales set too japanese? if they arent go ahead and switch it too them, it might be compatibility problems.. 

maybe your missing a file like the system arc file or something

I'm in Japanese locale and I think I don't miss any files

So I read some cases on it. Try setting the locales to English instead of Japanese. It might work.
