Plz Japan, stop. Or just fake romance in general. I'm caught up to the latest episode of Comic Girls now. I'm really enjoying how energetic this series is, and I've even gotten a few good laughs here and there (which is rare for a CGDCT anime). Kaos is love, Kaos is life. Kurisu-Chan Posted May 9, 2018 Posted May 9, 2018 Steins;Gate 0 Episode 5 finished. Well, like always, i like the stuff they are doing. Spoiler So, we have the setup for the Kagari/Reyes arc, i'm gonna guess they will go full PR and Recursive mother goose. Quote
Plk_Lesiak Posted May 11, 2018 Author Posted May 11, 2018 As I haven't seen the original Steins;Gate anime (or read the VN) and I'm avoiding 0, I'm now pretty sure that Hinamatsuri will be my anime of the season. Such an original, genuinely funny show - I love how the humour and the general plot is very much down-to-earth and relatable in a way. Even with all the supernatural elements it's all about the characters and their everyday lives and it's absolutely charming at that. I don't think I had this much fun with a SoL series since Kobayashi's Dragon Maid. BookwormOtaku 1 Quote

BookwormOtaku Posted May 12, 2018 Posted May 12, 2018 Got caught up with Comic Girls and this latest episode's new character was pretty funny, especially Kaos' reactions to her, kind of reminds me of Nekozawa from Ouran. Also liked how in the second half they actually followed up on that little reveal with the teacher in the last episode. Also watched the latest episode of Hinamatsuri, first half was as funny as I expected, while the second half...wow that's a Nat 20 hit to the feels. Got me really invested in seeing what happens to Anzu next episode. So glad I waited till after I got home from work to watch this episode or this would have been me: Plk_Lesiak 1 Quote

Just like one could say "Kaos likes wearing trousers". I don't know. I get super irked by people who throw lesbianism around like a buzzword for absolutely any female being to ever display any amount of interest or curiosity, be it sincere, fake or for pure comedic relief. Or, basically, for any female character that's not eating dick 24/7. Darklord Rooke and ittaku 2 Quote

Just like one could say "Kaos likes wearing trousers". Can't really say, I just view the former as a running joke that kind of gets lost under the funnier jokes, while with the latter my main reaction is "Ah, Kaos is a bit of a masochist... funny and surprisingly fitting". Tried and got caught up on Golden Kamuy today and I have to say this was a very pleasant surprise. Not only was I not expecting it to be this good, but it also wasn't what I wasn't what I was expecting at all. I was expecting this to be a grim dark series similar to Ninja Scroll or Basilisk, but was surprised at how humorous Sugimoto and Asirpa could be, at the great chemistry between the two and...damn, I really like Asirpa: she's badass, she's funny and the show does a really good job with her expressions. It's capitalising on the recent rise of the yuri which is, of course, all done in the wrong way in anime; it's to titillate guys instead of be a meaningful portrayal of it (even when it tries to be the latter it has to be mostly the former.) Oh well, it is just anime and I can drop it and watch something else. Darklord Rooke and Jun Inoue 2 Quote

Now I think of it, I'm not sure if I've ever seen much of tasteful/meaningful depictions of f/f romance in series that weren't straight-up shoujo-ai - usually even if it's not just plain fanservice or ship-baiting, it's done weirdly IMO (just like when New Game creates an obvious lesbian subplot but pretty much never goes anywhere with it). Another reason to avoid Comic Girls I guess, still have to really high-quality moe shows from previous seasons to catch up with. ;p And a bit OT, but I'm slowly watching through Flip Flappers and I think this show is even not widely considered a yuri, but have one of the most charming and subtle f/f relationships I've ever seen in anime. I wish more shows could do something similar, although that series, in general, is far from being standard in most ways. And well, even if it's not tagged as shoujo-ai in many places, it gives the viewer some pretty strong clues: Spoiler Quote

Wouldn't say it affected New Game all that much, either, since most relations there were about respect. The only exception, and probably the one you mean, is Yagami and Rin. But that wasn't distasteful, just never really explored past the point of lifelong friends (didn't really have the classic f/f baiting). Much like Ittaku said, the problematic shows are the ones that show us lesbians as seen in porn. That is, what horny hetero males think lesbians are like. You won't see many tasteful depictions because the more traditional/popular Japanese anime still works within the idea that lesbians don't exist. Plk_Lesiak 1 Quote
BookwormOtaku Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 Watched the latest episode of Golden Kamuy, one of the highlights was drunk Asirpa Also decided to try out Ge ge ge no Kitaro and watched up to episode 5. Liking it so far, it kinda reminds me of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon with its more kid friendly monster horror, plus I do like the friendship Kitaro and Neko Musume/Cat Chick make with Mana. Plus it also helps that the opening and ending are surprisingly catchy Also did not even know this series existed. I may check out what I can of the older series later. Plus on a side note, does anyone else think the rat youkai kind of looks like a Dr Seuss character? Quote

Kurisu-Chan Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 Guys, can we agree that this anime season is probably one of the strongest anime season we've got since a lot of time? I mean, the amount of excellent anime we are getting this season is just way too big, i can't count how many great anime are being released this season (except tokyo Ghoul cause Poor Tokyo Ghoul, and Persona 5 the animation too, poor Persona 5). Kurisu-Chan Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 Episode 6 of steins;gate 0. Spoiler The lack of japanese shaman girls is really a bad idea, but this, brightens my heart. Spoiler OH, My clock stopped working... FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK Overall, the plot is well executed, the animation is getting better and better (there is movement in the background, this time, as opposed to no movement) there are still a bit of problems and the random shots doesn't help that much, but overall it's watchable and the story is on fire. BookwormOtaku Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 (edited) Decided to take a look at Megalo Box as that's been receiving its share of praise, watched up to episode 7...and I really like this one too. It's a good futuristic underdog boxing story with a good cast of characters (I especially liked Nanbu's development) and the design for the anime is really nice. It looks and feels like an anime from the late 90s, so much so I hope it does end up on Toonami in a year or two. I guess if I had any complaints it's how episode 7 ends... Spoiler I get it's supposed to an "all is lost" moment, but I think they may have done it a little too well. Basically I have no idea how they're going to get Joe back into the tournament without it feeling like an ass pull. Edit: One more bit of praise: They sure picked a badass sounding main OST: Edited May 18, 2018 by BookwormOtaku Quote

ittaku Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Well I keep being conflicted on Hinamatsuri. It's a show with a stupid premise that starts with scifi and turns pure character comedy drama. Given the material I expect to give it up each week but each time I watch an episode I find myself honestly laughing out loud which almost never happens with comedy. Thus I have to admit, it's actually a good comedy. BookwormOtaku and ManteR 2 Quote

Still this season benefit also from ongoing winter2018's shows like saiki no psi-nan, 7tsu no taizai, etc. Yup it's like we have a good anime episode every day, it's a bliss !
