Ouraibaa Hjyuraa Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 They said that for the sake of legal affairs, but it doesn't make sense in any way that she's 18. Appart from the fact that it would mean she's no loli then. Quote
Jun Inoue Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 How ironic that the one cosplaying as Jun doesn't know what a loli is. Quote
Monmon Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Loliis not bound by age, no matter how old they were, if their appreance still untainted by adult growth, that is loli.IMO Quote
Ouraibaa Hjyuraa Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 It's wrongly used by a lot of people. They use "loli" when they mean "petite". Loli is exclusively for underaged girls. Hence, why I say it's very ironic that the obvious lie of Mon being 18 due to legal stuff automatically makes her not an actual loli (but she's obviously not 18, so in truth a loli). Quote

Ouraibaa Hjyuraa Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Well, thing is, I'm talking about the real definition. You can say "for me, loli is anyone with child-like appearence", but objectively you'll be wrong. For being faithful to the actual, true meaning of loli? =X Quote
Monmon Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Well people have difference on opinion.....in the end loli is a good thing, yeahhhh. Quote
Ouraibaa Hjyuraa Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 You missed the "IMO". I ask you to check the real definition, and you look up a book named "Lolita", where the term loli was born from. A loli that's not underage is a petite. Quote
Jun Inoue Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 You're being faithful to the original word, not the anime community word. By your logic, the word anime is just plain animation because that's what the word originally meant, and thus there is no reason to see it as "cartoons made in japan". Quote
Ouraibaa Hjyuraa Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 There was no better word, so taking the word anime and it evolving makes sense. But misusing the word loli when petite already exists, and twisting its meaning to encompase all ages isn't that useful. Quote
Jun Inoue Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 It's the English language. We have multiple words for the exact same thing. Besides, petite and loli are different. Loli are distinctly young-looking, but attractive. Petite is just small. A lot of Asian women are small, but that doesn't make them into loli, just petite. Quote
Ouraibaa Hjyuraa Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 No, petite means small in an attractive way, too. petite adjective /pəˈtiːt/ › approving If a woman or girl is petite, she is small and thin in an attractive way:She was dark and petite, as all his wives had been. Quote
Kynbound Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 And me thinking loli was something like, "Her age matters not one bit when it comes to her classification as a loli. This is only about appearance." I blame laguage evolution Quote

As I said, I do this because as a student of the english language and linguistics, it's pretty much important and benefitial that I put importance into this sort of things. It's not a "I'm right and everyone must kneel to me" Quote
Monmon Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Well....Most of Lolis in anime is usually younger than 20 anyway. Hitomi Hitoyoshi is for example, she is 42 years old and one of the rare loli that older than 20. Well the term loli was from Vlad's novel Lolita. It is indeed abnormal attraction for underage girls. However japanese's Anime, manga and games , took that term to new fetism and guess what?? they like it and we like it. Now beacuse loli is prety popular, even women who in middle age are lolis in anime, manga and games. Quote
Jun Inoue Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 How dare you blame winfield? This wouldn't have happened if he hadn't stolen the bracelet! But still not correct The reason it's a headache is that the world of anime has turned the term into a kind of slang word, but without considering it slang. It's correct without people knowing that it's actually incorrect, just a "saying". It's as if people suddenly thought that "brotha" or I don't know, any slang, was a correct word. Quote
