Both contents stream/cast PC media on a TV.

You also don't need to hook up an HDMI cable nor buy an expensive video card that supports HDMI + Sound.

Oh no! Where ever am I going to get an HDMI cable? Poor me. Bohoo hoo and the like.

Back in my day, We were fucking happy that we even could plug in a cable into the tv! Damn kids and their wireless doohickies.

Why does it seem like Tiago is the only person to ever take jokes seriously? Doesn't his signature say not to take him seriously or am I missing something?

You're not missing anything. Which makes it all the more surprising that you're questioning it.

After all, you're not supposed to take me seriously.

In all seriousness, though, my laptop easily hooks up to my HDTV, and I watch movies, etc. on it all the time. Never had any issues with video quality or sound, but I've heard a lot of good things about Chromecast.

You have to consider that a lot of people don't even have an output that allows them to watch their PC content on an HDTV, thus having to buy a video card that supports it. RGB only allows up to a certain number of pixels on most HDTVs and doesn't produce sound, so you'll have to invest more money into a speaker system. That's a waste of an HDTV with a true surround sound system built in. My mother board does is what it needs to do, but I'm not a gamer, so buying any type of video card is a waste of money for me.

Trueee, I've gotten so used to having one I entirely forgot that they typically don't have HDMI outputs. This is only quasi-related but I feel like most people overestimate the importance of having a great video card for gaming on a pc/laptop. My laptop has the crappy Intel HD graphics and I've never had issues playing any games on high quality (it would however be nice to play fallout and skyrim on max settings)

I have an Intel HD as well, though I'm guessing a less advance version than yours. I think I played War Thunder (I was paid $20 by swagbucks to play it for 3 rounds) on average settings and it ran pretty smoothly. It was actually enjoyable if you're into flight simulators. Skyrim has been out for 3 years, so the cost of playing it on high quality is less than what it used to be. Still beautiul non the less.

Still, I wouldn't invest in a video card just for an HDMI output that either under-performs my current motherboard's video processor, or is too expensive to justify the HDMI alone unless I was looking into becoming a heavy PC gamer again.
