Clephas Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 (edited) This is a recommendation thread for those who like games that make them cry and grant emotional release. First, I'll give you my list of games that do this well. (note that the first eight are all kamige) Eden* http://vndb.org/v1286 Evolimit http://vndb.org/v3111 Hapymaher http://vndb.org/v10957 Haruka ni Aogi, Uruwashi no http://vndb.org/v604 Irotoridori no Sekai http://vndb.org/v5834 Konata yori Kanata made http://vndb.org/v551 (warning: you will probably spend most of the game crying) Moshimo Ashita ga Harenaraba http://vndb.org/v100 Natsu no Owari no Nirvana http://vndb.org/v11193 Hatsuyuki Sakura http://vndb.org/v7302 Hotel. http://vndb.org/v7069 Koko Yori, Haruka http://vndb.org/v1450 Shinigami no Kiss wa Wakare no Aji http://vndb.org/v1660 Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete http://vndb.org/v4880 Natsuyume Nagisa http://vndb.org/v1755 Sakura, Sakimashita http://vndb.org/v7777 11/04/2014 edit Nanairo Reincarnation https://vndb.org/v15473 Satsukoi https://vndb.org/v15143 Dekinai Watashi ga, Kurikaesu https://vndb.org/v15166 Ashita no Kimi to Au Tame ni https://vndb.org/v423 Koi ga Saku Koro Sakura Doki https://vndb.org/v10304 AstralAir no Shiroki Towa https://vndb.org/v12984 Irotoridori no Sekai https://vndb.org/v5834 Houkago no Futekikakusha https://vndb.org/v13904 Hapymaher Fragmentation Dream https://vndb.org/v13108 Hikoukigumo no Mukougawa https://vndb.org/v13711 Koisuru Doll to Omoi no Kiseki https://vndb.org/v12987 Sekai to Sekai no Mannaka De https://vndb.org/v13224 Timepiece Ensemble https://vndb.org/v12831 I deliberately didn't list those that had been translated here (everyone knows about Key, after all) have fun, all. Edit: Notice the rather large update I've given this list, lol. Edited November 4, 2014 by Clephas Quote
Flutterz Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 The suggestions seem interesting enough, but what's a kamige? Google doesn't seem to know either. >.> Quote
Clephas Posted October 19, 2013 Author Posted October 19, 2013 lol, a kamige is a 'god of games', in other words, a game that manages to do almost everything right (there are hardly any games that manage to get everything right) and are just that good. They are the cream of the crop, the best of the best. Konata yori Kanata made is considered to be the ultimate utsuge by long-time vn-players, for instance. Hapymaher utilizes its music to enhance the story so well, that a 'good' game became a truly 'great' game. Games that go above and beyond are called kamige, lol. Quote
Flutterz Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Ah, makes sense. I figured it was kami-game, but the only thing that came to mind when I thought of god games was simulators. But yeah, I'll definitely have to revisit this list when I have a semi-decent grasp of the Japanese language. Quote
Zalor Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Clephas, every time you post recommendations you remind me of all the great VNs I'm missing out on for not knowing any Japanese. Quote
Bolverk Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 I am glad you posted this list. I am wondering what to read next. I am currently reading Akatsuki no Goe in jp. Either I will read the sequel afterwards, but that's unlikely because it's alot longer.. Or I will read another vn. I am currently learning japanese, so I prefer to be rather careful with choosing my vn's. -I want a vn that's not too long (8-20 hours at normal reading speed) -not too advanced language ( Not lots of uncommon words and terms, that JParser will prbly have problems with. Re:birth colony -Lost azurite- for example had so many hacker and computer terms it was just horrible to keep with what was going on.) -Focused on story rather than moe stuff (Example: My girlfriend is the President) On your list I am interested in these titles: (Most interested in Eden*) Eden* Konata yori Kanata made Moshimo Ashita ga Harenaraba Do you think they would fit me Clephas? Quote
Clephas Posted October 19, 2013 Author Posted October 19, 2013 Seriously recommend Konakana. Those three are all great games, but Konakana is really the best of the three (best utsuge of all time). Eden* is also a good utsuge, and Moshimo is a great nakige. Quote
Bolverk Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 I am feeling I will maybe spoil Konakana greatness by a lack of my reading skills. Gehhh... Oh well, I will give it a try after Eden* Quote
Clephas Posted October 19, 2013 Author Posted October 19, 2013 Eden* is harder... (both to read and set up), but Konakana is better. lol Quote
shcboomer Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Looks like I'll be crying a lot with these on my to read list. Quote
