Deep Blue Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 playing I am setsuna, I don't know why is it called that way when the original one is いけにえと雪のセツナ something like sacrifice and snow of setsuna(sentsuna's sacrifice and snow??), btw her name is a reference for pain or opression..so maybe the title is a bit over the top either way fairly good so far, the combat sometimes is a bit convoluted because you don't have much time to react so you just keep attacking and you win XD The music is good, the art too and the story...well can't say much yet but so far I think it's a good rpg. Playing the game right now too. The English title is extremely stupid. I like the piano soundtrack. Though I must say it lacks character. Even though it's good ambient music, it's pretty bland. It reuses old Square-Enix music themes, but doesn't really find its own distinctive style. The story is pretty generic, but I guess that is the point. The game is hilariously pretentious, but to be honest, retro JRPGs took themselves way too seriously too ... and we loved it. I'm certainly enjoying it. However, the characters are really a little too bland and forgettable. Sure, they're fine.. but really nothing more. The main character with his pseudo choices is very retro ... but in a bad way. The game tries to copy Chrono Trigger, but Endir is by far no Crono, that's for sure. Regarding convoluted combat: The time stops when you target an enemy, even if you play in Active Mode. It's really important in this game which enemy you attack, so don't just button smash your way through. People saying the game is too easy and it's indeed easy ... but only if you are playing good or you grind too much (which is easily possible when you try to farm drops). If you don't use your techs wisely, it will be very hard. If you try to get drops, the combat system is actually pretty interesting and it's fun trying to find out the best combinations of techs to maximize the looting. Deep Blue 1 Quote

Well I can't talk about the story yet Spoiler I'm at the first village after your boat crash, so nothing really happened yet. The characters are like in 90% of jrpg, the generous girl who loves every single creature and she would give her life even if it's to save a bug, the strong, bad-ass almost muted protagonist, the companion of the girl who loves everyone who is over protective of her and so on, all the cliche characters you can find in a jrpg are here which is not something bad or good I mean you are playing an jrpg game in 2016 from a triple A company, don't expect ground breaking stuff. Or maybe I'm wrong and later on everything changes... and even if it's cliched I still enjoy it. The story so far I have to agree, it's a pretty generic japanese story too, sacrificing one human (always a pretty young girl who is the most innocent and kind of them all) to appease the gods, monster or whatever The combat, leaving aside bosses so far I haven't had any problems, I do manage my team pretty ok since I'm fairly used to jrpg, and use the special abilities (the one you can combine 2 attacks for example) still I don't find it hard or anything, probably I'm too early in the game to give a proper opinion of the combat. The music and the art are the best thing of this game, even if it's reuses old music from other jrpgs I think it's pretty good and sets the mood pretty ok for the scenes, and I love snowy sceneries so yeah it just got me with that alone. Jade Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Just finished playing Growlanser II. The story is kinda okay but by god i vehemntly dislike both the combat and the stupid random encounter quite a far cry from Growlanser IV really. Now what Ps2 rpg i should play next..... Quote
Lucius Posted July 23, 2016 Posted July 23, 2016 Playing Pokemon Trading Card Game Online. One of the most stressful games I've ever played. It sums up the whole reason why I dislike online multiplayers - because battling an AI is far easier, and you don't have to deal with the drama that comes with immature opponents. I swear, everytime I play this game, my blood pressure shoots for the peak. The absolutely worst part is the RNG mechanics. A lot of the online version of the TCG relies on the computer manipulating the card-draws and coin-flips, whereas in real life, the luck of the draw is fair to everyone. You would get an opponent in the online game who is able to instantly evolve a Stage 1 Pokemon in his three opening turns, effectively wiping you out before you could even set up anything. And I absolutely hate Night March! Quote

Growlanser II is effectively a fandisc for Growlanser I. In fact, Growlanser III is actually the "second" game the Growlanser staff planned to make. Hope you played the first one first or else the story might not have made much sense, lol. I've played every Growlanser game and I think Growlanser II has actually the best battles of the whole series. Probably because you don't really have a world to explore (or at least the "time" to explore) and the opportunity to level, and all your characters are balanced because they can't learn just every skill there is, so every battle is actually very strategic. While I think Growlanser IV is a good game, for me the gameplay was ruined by the fact that overleveling is so damn easy in this game. After 1/3 of the game, my characters were demi-gods thanks to all the skills they learned and literally every battle thereafter was a farce. That's really a big flaw. Luckily they changed that in Growlanser V and it wasn't as easy to overpower your characters anymore. Sadly I can't remember even one interesting or tough fight in Growlanser IV, while I remember many thrilling battles in Growlanser II. Quote

Lucius Posted July 24, 2016 Posted July 24, 2016 Another night of Pokemon TCG online keeping my blood boiling. I should really be reading VNs. More relaxing. And instead I'm playing this stupid game at 4 in the morning for some reason. Quote
Jade Posted July 25, 2016 Posted July 25, 2016 Currently playing Shadow Hearts Covenant. Can't say much about the story yet since i'm not that far but i'm definitely liking the humor in this game. Quote

I hope you played the first part of the series this time xD I was actually somewhat disappointed in the slow beginning of Shadow Hearts 2, but the game just keeps getting better and better, starting with Russia. I missed the creepy horror atmosphere of the first Shadow Hearts though. Darklord Rooke 1 Quote
Dark_blade64 Posted July 26, 2016 Posted July 26, 2016 Playing Grunty's revenge, and will start Asterisk war lately today. Also trying to beat eledees once again, and playing some other games like tactics ogre let us cling together. Quote

Lucius Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Woke up this morning with a Pokemon bug for some reason - no, not Caterpie. The 'obsession' kind of bug. So now I feel like playing some Pokemon! As the Pokemon Advanced theme song goes, "gonna start all over again!" Particularly with Pokemon Ash Gray, a ROM based on the first season of the Pokemon anime. Because c'mon, that season is nostalgically fun.[/genwunner] Quote
Deep Blue Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Playing a bit of katamari damacy after getting a bit tired of I am setsuna, my god what a fucking crazy awesome game, the music 10/10, seriously the music in this game is top notch, it goes from jazz and bossa nova to mambo lol and all the tracks are AMAZING oh and the lyrics lmao, just epic! How did I miss this game for so many years The weirdness 10/10, just fun to play and roll things up, I rate katamari damacy a katamari out of a giant octopus. On the other hand beautiful katamari was good but nothing like damacy, just a shadow of it. Quote

You will miss out on many emotional scenes, characters and story if you don't know what happened in Shadow Hearts 1. Even though the game tries to make you believe in the beginning that it is a standalone title, it really isn't and the whole story on the second disc will depend strongly on the first Shadow Hearts. As far as I know the story was actually planned as a standalone story (with Nicolai as the protagonist), but it was changed later in the development so it would be a true sequel to the first. Quote
Lucius Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 More PTCGO goodness ("goodness"). They've set up a new Versus ladder with new rewards, but it's pretty similar to one of the older Versus ladder rewards a few weeks back, nothing special. Then again, these Versus rewards never seem to have anything top-tier anyway. On the other hand, Pokemon Ash Gray is going well. A few hiccups with difficulty spikes, but nothing a few Gameshark codes won't resolve. Quote

Sadly Gearbox Software turned it into a crappy fps multiplayer shooter called Furious 4 and it got cancelled. Now it seems they are working on a popper sequel but knowing the crap that gearsoft has been releasing lately I wouldnt hold my breath.. Quote
Kurisu-Chan Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Now they make silly games like bordershit 1 and 2... Also finished it, pretty sad like always, i love how they don't depict the us soldiers like heroes, or like they're invincible, a very good point. yup. Quote
Mkilbride Posted August 2, 2016 Posted August 2, 2016 Brothers in Arms series is amazing. So was Opposing Force. I'm so sad what Gearbox has become. At least people are starting to notice. Their last game, Battleborn, flopped so hard, they are tens of millions in the red. Hopefully it forces them to re-think their future games. I'm currently playing The Witcher 2, as I never finished it years ago, and wanna get into The Witcher 3 - now that I got my new GPU, a 1080 GTX, a huge upgrade from my 670 - I finally feel I can dive into alot of games I've been holding out on. Timing to announce this couldn't have been worse. Overwatch looked like everything this game was but an improvement. Not mentioning it was from Blizzard, that alone made the game automatically successful while this flopped really hard. Quote

Thing is, they're really different games. I don't think Overwatch had much to do with it. It's Gearbox. After Duke Nukem Forever, Aliens Colonial Marines, and the Pre-sequel, people were very mad at Gearbox, and Gearbox literally said that people being mad at them "made them happy" - This created a Karma storm against them - and it hit when Battleborn dropped. It saw a 50% discount 3 weeks after release. a 75% one 6 weeks after release. Seriously, it was on sale for 10$ a month into release at select stores too. 60$ to 10$ in a month. I've never seen such a drop. Quote
