Dark Ariel7 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 hey guys, I am looking for an eroge (not just a VN) that will be possible to read at my low level of Jp as practice. So far I am in my second semester of Jp at college and know all of the kanji Here my vocab is mostly anime geared. So I know the word for shadow, pirate, god, and steel but not the word for desk or lamp. I would say though that my vocab is probably at about 2~5 Hundred. It is too hard to count all the words I know because there are many words that I don't know that I know until I hear or see them. But anyways, on to the criteria! 1) not too old. I like decent visuals and am not a fan of the older character design. 2) Interesting. I am not doing this just to study. I want the story to be interestng. 3) no Hardcore stuff. NO BDSM. No Ubber Moe. NO RAPE. Incest furries and the like are all A OK though. Hell they are encouraged! 4) I really doubt this is going to be an issue but I will say it anyways. Not too easy or simple. I want it to help me improve. 5) mentioned before but I will say it again. Incest, furries, Lolis, are encouraged. 5) also stated previously but I want to clarify. I want an eroge. Meaning while it is not 100% needed I REALLY would prefer it to have sexual content. Particularly if the characters are really interesting rather than the story being interesting. For reference I am a huge fan of Majikoi(all of them) and Wanko to Kurasou. If you want to know more about my Japanese level please feel free to ask any questions or send out any kinda of skill test you can come up with to better find something to match my skill Thanks! Clephas Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 http://vndb.org/v453 http://clephasstomach.blogspot.com/2011/02/review-draculius.html Relatively easy language for a story-focused VN. http://vndb.org/v5909 http://vndb.org/v551 http://vndb.org/v4868 http://vndb.org/v4806 http://vndb.org/v100 http://vndb.org/v1335 http://vndb.org/v3767 (this entire series in order of release) http://vndb.org/v9890 http://vndb.org/v10803 http://vndb.org/v11863 http://vndb.org/v10026 http://vndb.org/v8213 http://vndb.org/v7302 http://vndb.org/v7772 http://vndb.org/v828 http://vndb.org/v4942 I hope that was enough for a start. Edit: All of these have 4-6 difficulty as their average and 7 as the highest. Honestly, there is nothing but crap amongst those easier than these. Thankfully, 6 and 7 almost never pop up in any of them, so you'll be on easy street for much of it. Baconpancake, Dark Ariel7 and Bolverk 3 Quote
Flutterz Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Just curious, what would you rate the difficulty of Da Capo III as? Quote
Secchan Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 What would you rate dracu and hatsuyuki at? Going to get to those soon... whenever i finish amairo Quote
BookwormOtaku Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I'd definitely reccomend Kyonyuu Fantasy (and feel free to check out the rest of the series if you end up liking this): http://gamesforadultsandeveryone.blogspot.com/2012/10/import-games-for-adults-kyonyuu-fantasy.html Another good one for beginners to importing eroge is Magical Witch Academy: http://gamesforadultsandeveryone.blogspot.com/2012/10/import-games-for-adults-magical-witch.html Quote
Clephas Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Dracu and Hatsuyuki are both a 5-7 depending on whether you are talking about the 'everyday' stuff or the drama. Quote
Dark Ariel7 Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 @Clephas I am interested in most of the ones you posted so I will most definitely pick one from there but would you mind putting the difficulty rating on them? Also, what do you mean about Draculus not having unique paths for each heroine? vndb says it has an early branching story and you said in your blog post that you don't like the halfhearted route they just added on. That means it has routes, right? I am most interested in these so far: http://vndb.org/v4868 http://vndb.org/v4806 http://vndb.org/v3767/chars#chars http://vndb.org/v11863 http://vndb.org/v10026/chars#chars http://vndb.org/v8213/chars#chars http://vndb.org/v4942 Which one do you recommend more? Dark Ariel7 Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 Is Coμ - Kuroi Ryuu to Yasashii Oukoku a hard one? I read it from your blog and the cg caught my attention then the sypnosis just drew me in. Quote
Clephas Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Anything by Akatsuki Works is going to be in the 6-8 range, so yeah, it is hard. Also, Comyu is being translated by one of the more consistent fantranslation groups out there, so you will be able to play it in English soon enough anyway. Draculius has two routes, one is a joke route and the other is the true route. The true route is a semi-harem route that focuses on plot. My recommendation amongst those is the Tiny Dungeon series. It is hilarious and has a great story. Quote
Dark Ariel7 Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 All right then I will try the Tiny Dungeon one. However do you know were I can get it? I looked a bit into it just know and can only find dead torrents. Quote
Dark Ariel7 Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 (edited) Thanks a ton! Hopefully 3 seeders is enough to at least get it in 1 day. Oh yeah! I forgot to ask. Is there any order in which I should play them? Edited November 3, 2013 by Down Try to not double-post Quote
Clephas Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Black and White, Dragon, Birth, Slave. That's the literal order, though you can switch Dragon and Birth without causing problems. However, Black and White has to be first and Slave last. Slave is the series' conclusion and Black and White is the intro and Demon side. Quote
Dark Ariel7 Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 Thanks. Well, that did not go so well. The torrent has pretty much gotten to 15% after over 1 day running straight and is now going exponentially slower. Do you know another torrent? Quote
Dark Ariel7 Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 Thanks, I totally did not consider anything outside a torrent... Oh, and I meant 15% of back and white not of the overall torrent. Quote
Clephas Posted November 5, 2013 Posted November 5, 2013 Damn, that's slow. Usually when there is more than two seeders, i can usually get an average of about 75-100 kbps... oh well. Quote
Dark Ariel7 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Man, You and I have different concepts of what low tier is. I just played through the intro and part of the first day and I understood almost nothing(*cries silently for a minute*). Please tell I accidentally pick the hardest one from all of the ones you suggested. What is the rating on this one? So far all I got was that he lives in the same room as a really beautiful girl and that he attends a school for demons dragons angels and people. The school was established after some form of war in which a hero di god knows what. Also the little golden dragon is actually pretty damn strong. I am starting to get a little depressed at the fact that 300+ kanji are not enough to even read a small novel... Quote
RusAnon Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I am starting to get a little depressed at the fact that 300+ kanji are not enough to even read a small novel... Use ITH+TA/JParser. Quote
Clephas Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Dude, use translation agg and jparser (I assumed you intended to do so, since you'd have to have all the commonly used kanji (at least eight hundred) to be able to read it without it. No matter how much kanji you know, it isn't enough. There will always be kanji you don't get. Also, Tiny Dungeon is about as low as you can get (well, besides Draculius) without the game being pure crap. Only nukige and Feng-style moege can get away with being 'lighter' than that linguistically... and both defy the idea of a good vn. Also, set jparser to romaji. If you know the grammar you shouldn't have any problems. Quote
Dark Ariel7 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Dammit, I was really hoping you would say I picked the hardest one.... Well I guess i just have to use the jparser thing. Though I do have to ask, I always hear letters and stuff around jparser. What stuff does what? Like what exactly does the Jparser do? Atlas? I have googled into this before but for some reason I can't explain I just really don't seem to understand what it is this stuff does. End result as I understand is that there will be a windows that will put readings to all of the kanji displayed on the screen right? Also why should AI put it to romaji? i can read kana more than fine; is there a specific reason? Last and most important question does it even work in windows 8? Quote
RusAnon Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 End result as I understand is that there will be a windows that will put readings to all of the kanji displayed on the screen right? Yes, but it also provides you with fast edict lookup when you hower over particular word. So its just advanced dictionary. Quote
Dark Ariel7 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Which is the one that does that? Also all I really want is to maybe have an available quick lookup for the kanji I dont know. I dont want the whole novel to be translated for me. Now that I think about it, I actually found the 2 or 3 days of the benkei route of majikoi I tried to be easier that TD. There was more voice acting too. Even the 2 days of the Crab route were easier. Quote
Clephas Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Basically Jparser is integrated into Translation Aggregator... let me give you a pic of my screen. Basically, close all the windows inside TA except Jparser, then use the config menu for it (the wrench sign) to set the furigana size and what you use for them (hiragana, katakana, romaji). Attach ITH to the game itself as well (not forgetting to run both as administrator if you are using later-version Windows) and make sure to highlight 'auto copy to clipboard' in options. Quote
zoom909 Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 If you really wanna take Clephas' advice and discard all the Moe-centric VNs, more power to you, but otherwise, check out my vndb list--I've only been reading VNs a couple of years in Japanese and all of those were pretty easy to read. Also, I hope you have a lot of patience...the first time I read a VN it seemed like time was passing in slow motion. I had to wait a year and read manga before I had a tolerable reading speed for VNs (JParser is awesome but if you have to mouse over stuff constantly then the slowness might annoy you...) Quote
Dark Ariel7 Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 God I really think that I can't do that. I have a small ocd fit every time I try to play something not in fullscreen and I think it will actually hurt my progress by making me rely on it too much. Guh! I guess I will try to power Trough TD anyways. It would help if there was more VA in it. So 2 questions about TD: 1 how much did I miss on the part that I read? I read up until the golden dragon and the maid were introduced. Is there major keypoints that I am missing? 2 Is there more VA later? I think part of the reason that majikoi seemed easier is because of all the voice acting. It made it easier to read kanji later when I just heard what is was not 5 minutes ago. Quote
Clephas Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 lol... I don't remember the last time I had to highlight it... but I remember doing so at the beginning. It is a tool that I only ever used for technical jargon... so I guess I'm not quite there on understanding how others feel on that issue. Basically Hime and Izumi (I think that's her name) are the only humans at that school, and because humans started and kept the war between the worlds going for so long, they are the subjects of persecution by the rest of the school. The exception is the dragon-loli, who loves the protagonist and a few others here and there who admire their willingness to keep on in the face of all that hatred. I think they might have mentioned that the dragons have an incredibly low population due to their high death rate during the war and that the demons and gods are in a sort of uneasy peace mostly predicated on the efforts of the legendary hero. Hime can't use magic (for reasons that will become evident shortly), but Izumi is a specialist in speed and wind magic through the use of her ritual weapon (a pair of twin katanas). Hime makes up for his lack by thinking ahead, sharpening his skills with a sword, and predicting his enemy's moves... but he is still lowest in the class, pretty much. Quote
