Nosebleed Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Issue with protagonist voice is that it can stop you relating to them or break the illusion it's you doing the talking. But i'm hardly ever in that illusion. Maybe that's just me but i feel more like a bystander when reading a VN instead of the protag. Like an omnipresent being perhaps ? They call the protagonist by other names as well so it's hard to feel related in my opinion. Unless it's a VN where you can change your name and it's adapted to never call you by the personal name then in that case perhaps I can feel more like a protag Quote

But i'm hardly ever in that illusion. Maybe that's just me but i feel more like a bystander when reading a VN instead of the protag. Like an omnipresent being perhaps ? I can honestly say that I have never seen the protag as "me". Instead, I have always just seen myself as a "guiding hand on the shoulder" whose "job" it is to make everything as well and good as possible. Also, It bugs me more when the protag lacks a voice, than when he has a voice... Quote

Also, It bugs me more when the protag lacks a voice, than when he has a voice... I can atest to this. I just go into a VN knowing it's not a story about me but a complete work of fiction and the protagonist IS a character just like everyone else in it. I'm not the protagonist, i want to think about the protagonist as a character that's important for the development of the story. If anything i'm just the narrator that's reading everyone's thoughts and prespectives outloud. Quote
