Isaac Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I started watching Clannad in my spare time and I have something that bothers me about the anime. Don't get me wrong, the anime is wonderful but they miss something very important. Clannad the VN is mainly about loneliness, there is no "shared" route, you might have the occasional talk with another girl, but you're almost always on your own with the girl you choose and nearly no supporting cast except Sunohara, the only routes that averts this is Kotomi's and Fuuko's where they are the ones that have bigger loneliness problems. I don't think they could have really done something to replicate it in an anime but it comes of making Tomoya a bit too normal compared to the game. Your thoughts? Quote
Flutterz Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Are you saying the Clannad anime isn't perfect?! HERETIC! Ahem. That aside, I think the anime wasn't trying to replicate that sense of loneliness, and for good reason - it was either that or getting several girls' routes in. Basically like you said, there's nothing they could have done about it, and if they had tried it would probably have ended up worse. Quote
Nosebleed Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Like Flutterz said it had to be like this because it's an anime or you'd end up with something unbelievably monotonous. The only other liable option is make it in omnibus format. Do you think that'd transmit Clannad's epicness and emotions? I don't. The heroines stories must be told across what is a linear story in this case and thus the best way to do that was to have the protagonist interact with each of them so there can be progress and character development. Besides they left the loneliness and depression of the protagonist for the after story so i think it wasn't all that bad and things were in the right places. Yes the protagonist is more outgoing and not as lonely in the anime during the first half at least but if he was only depressed through out the whole thing there'd be no point in it. Quote
IgnashiGrav Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Yeah, basically what everyone is saying, they don't want watchers to focus on one character, such as Tomoko, for the entire story (with the exception of Nagisa, not a supporting character). They want a variety of endings and scenes put together in one anime with Tomoya still picking one girl. If it focused only on one character, only 1/7 of the watchers would be satisfied, making it have bad reviews. I personally don't mind because the second season's where its at Quote
WinkBlinkel Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Have you seen the bonus alternate universe episodes that focus on Kyou and Tomoyo? Those feel way closer in tone to the game than the first season did to me since they were able to just focus on a single character. (That being said, I don't particularly care for either of those episodes since they feel ultra condensed and awkward, which sucks because Kyou and Tomoyo are my favorite characters ;~; ) I think they did the best job they possibly could trying to convert that game into a show, and had to sacrifice some things in the process. I personally don't mind because the second season's where its at Yeah, basically this hahah Quote
Zastie Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Yeah. It kinda had to be done for it to be a show, unless then intended on making multiple seasons consisting of all the alternate version.. which I so wouldn't mind. XD Quote
