As the title says, I just can't save on either of those games. I click on the save slot at the save menu, but all it does is add the word "new", the spot stays blank. My unicode is set to japanese. I tried uncheking "read only", didn't work. I have windows 8.1, tried running from 7 using virtual box, the game didn't even open. As both games are divided in chapters, in Steins;Gate I tought "maybe you just can't save on the prologue" but when the prologue ended it crashed -_- . Any known fixes? Early Thanks, I'm new to the forum, this is my first post too.

When you said you "tried unchecking read-only and it didn't work" do you mean it stayed read-only or even without being read-only it still didn't save?

It sounds like file corruption though. You should force a re-check of the files with your torrent client.

I did unchecked and applied. After that I opened Properties again and it was unchecked. But when I opened the game it checked by itself. That's why I said it didn't work.

Make sure you're not seeding the torrent or anything.

If the files keep being locked on read-only then they won't let you save.

Also what i meant by re-check is not redownload. Open your torrent client, add the torrent you used to download steins;gate/chaos;head. Make sure it's not seeding (right click > stop) and then right click it and select force re-check and let it finish. It will check for any corruption in the files. Although if you redownloaded 3 times this shouldn't be the problem.

I don't know if it has to do with it, but in my notebook for some reason exe files only work when you put it on C: , could that be it?

If you're running the .exe on C: and have the rest of the game on another disk partition it probably won't work.

I'd recommend you to have the game's directory all in C: and then just run the .exe from there.

No I know that, I put the entire folder from the torrent on C:

Do you have any letters in your windows username that is not a basic alphanumeric latin character (a-z, 0-9) or japanese? Like Greek, Cyrillic or anything like ˇ ¨ ´ øæöäœıþ€əßðĸ etc?

Some vns don't like those things in filepaths and both CH and SG have their saves located in your username\appdata and they cannot create the save files if the filepath is unreadable for the vn.

If this is the case then you'll have to either run the vn as a different user that it understands or create a new user or run it in a virtual machine.
