BookwormOtaku Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Just came across this new kickstarter for a Sci-fi VN: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jamtoaststudios/dream-of-stars-a-heartwarming-sci-fi-visual-novel Quote
Nagisa_Fawkes Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 The story seems interesting, altough I have to say, what a boring artwork -_- Quote
Vokoca Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Looking at the stretchgoals... isn't that Umineko parody a bit too much? As in, isn't that way too close to the source material for something they're getting paid for...? o.O Quote
shcboomer Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 The stretch goals certainly seem like stretch goals. I'm a bit surprised that they art is costing so much in the breakdown. Quote
Nosebleed Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 That 10 year old girl doesn't look 10.. OR 13.. I like lolis that look like lolis thank you very much. Not a big fan of the art and I wouldn't feel comfortable at all donating knowing 50% of the funds raised go to developing more art like that. It just feels very cartoonish and with minimal detail. This is probably something you could sell well on Android/iOS. Feels more fitting for those platforms than on PC. Quote
monkeysrumble Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 As everyone has already said the art looks weird. It kind of reminds me of something but I can't quite put my finger on it... Quote
Darkshine Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 The story seems interesting, altough I have to say, what a boring artwork -_- Art looks really weird. I don't like it I agree image is everything when it comes to VNs and the characters just don't look very pleasing to the eye. Quote
ghostytrickster Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 personally, i like the art. a lot. and honestly, i've seen people support projects with art that wasn't even CLOSE to this quality (hint hint the original higurashi and umeneko, where the art was HORRIBLE and flat) and considering, as a sort of artist myself, i know how long it takes to draw basically anything and the artist for this is drawing EVERYTHING, i can see how 50% of the funds would go to the art. i'd like to see anyone here draw ALL OF THE ART for a visual novel and NOT ask for at least 50% of the funds. Quote
Sakimichi Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I like the art, better than most indie games I've played. I probably don't like that cat woman thingy...sorry. I think it would have been better if they promote their game as well as adding beta/trial version in the $10 tier. Quote
Darklord Rooke Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I agree image is everything when it comes to VNs and the characters just don't look very pleasing to the eye. Nope, I disagree. Take out art and you'll still have a game worth playing. Take out the writing and all you have is a gallery. The most impressive thing about this kickstarter is the samples of polished writing they've shown. I get sick of all the VNs going around with pretty artwork and garbled english. Quote
InvertMouse Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Unfortunately, it's hard to deny that most people do immediately judge a game based on its visuals. I try to fight it, but I'm just like anybody else, and I definitely do, at least to some degree. Think of a visual novel you love. Replace those pretty sprites with stick figures. How's the writing now? If it's still good (be honest), then it's actually a good story. In any case, at least these guys are only asking for 9K XD. Quote
Kendjin Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Ah Invertmouse, I have to say, I loved your game in its original state, but the upgrades in visuals and audio definitely stepped it up. Now I wish this kickstarter realised it needs to step it up a bit too. Quote
krill Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 the arts not that bad, its not professional illustrator level, but for 9 grand you couldn't afford that kind of talent any way. i would consider getting this if it meets its goal and is released at a reasonable price. Quote
