a Question about Da Capo

Recently started Da Capo, liking it so far except for one thing, I cant seem to figure out the route system Everytime I choose somewhere to go, its a different person, giving me the sense that I am kinda just strolling around hoping to fall into routes, lol. Im sure this is probably the way it was intended, in a 'you have to know your girl' kinda way or something. At first, when I heard the voices when you hovered over the are to go to, maybe that was an indication as to who would be there, but either I just haven't heard their voices enough to be able to actually place them, or I am just wrong about that.

So, preferably without spoiling too much (if possible, it not then I will deal ) is Da Capo set up to be just kind of a meandering path, is there a way to actually put myself on specific routes, am I just to slow to realize what's actually going on? (its possible)

no, Da Capo is "total random". I had to write on a paper which girl I met on each day for each choice. and ended up with this (quite safe, it will "spoil" you maximum the 3 first days).

in DC2, they added a chibi of the girl, but you lose the pleasure to stalk you prey

i dont play by ear anymore, i always use a walkthrough because the trial-and-error just does not equal gameplay to me...

I personally did not use any walkthrough to get to the routes I wanted, which was Kotori (yeah Kotori!) but there is a specific way to get into the routes. The easiest way to do it would be to follow the walkthrough that Aaeru gave there

Guess this is as close i get for a discussion topic about this game without creating a new thread.

Excellent vn so far. Sometimes i wonder if the translators of the vn know english though  I'm on Nemu as the last of the main routes, and only moe's route has been shit so far. I knew something was off with the fluffy beginning, and the replacement crap was particularly bad in this one imo.

There is one small perplexing thing in Nemu's route that left me as a questionmark and i guess partly annoyed as it pretty much made no sense.

 

Why is Suginami even mentioned here? I'd expect her to mention someone like Miharu. I can't seem to rememeber them having any relationship other than him being an annoying rascal to her, and why are you as her boyfriend being put side by side in a context such as this? *scratches head*

The only worthwhile part of the original Da Capo is Kotori. And since all the Kotori content (and the updated stuff from Plus Communication) was packed into a seperate game, you never ever need to read D.C 1.

I agree. Kotori was the best route in the game so far. I pretty much loved it. I'm not sure what you mean with the updated plus communication stuff though. Aren't the extra games on mangagamer only about kotori? Kotori ex p and innocent finale?

Yeah, they never translated any of the Plus Communication editions. Also, if you get around to picking up Kotori fandiscs, you should know that IF is fully included in Love Ex P.

Also, IF is utter shit.

Kotori Love Ex P is a Kotori fandisc, filled with after-story content and even an option to cheat on her. However and as far as I know, this disc also includes the entire Da Capo Plus Communication common route with all the new stuff. The disc doesn't even lock you into Kotori, you can still read all the other stuff (besides the actual character routes, which are replaced by a bad ending for not picking Kotori.)

I actually tried to make the partial Patch for D.C.P.C work for quite a while, but it just doesn't work. The partial patch is extremely hard to find and not compatible with the edition that includes the D.C 3 demo.

Everything is selectable in the main menu in order, which is: Kotori's route -> White Season -> After Seasons -> Christmas Days -> Love Ex P. Innocent Finale and IF After are seperate timelines, but I don't know when they start, because I haven't read either.

But please be aware that everything other than the route and IF are just the usual fandisc content. I don't want to hear any complaints because the expected tight plot and dramatic twists didn't happen later.

Ahh, thanks. Whether or not there is need for drama depends entirely on the content. Some stories doesn't need it, and some does.  I'm honestly a bit confused still seeing as you mention alternate timelines and such. Just to be 100% clear, EX P is a continuation of the main route and IF is completely stand alone among this collection?

Yes. I say that, because Ex P at some point mentioned specific details about the confession scene, which should be completely different in IF. But it really doesn't matter, because boiled down Ex P is just sex.

Ohh, almost forgot. I'm going to be completely lost if i don't have a walkthrough for plus communication  Does the walkthrough for the original game work for Kotori or are there additional or replaced choices to get into her route? if so, any walkthrough available for it?

Well, i just finished the PC Kotori route and it was better. Loved the additional CG and the fact that they made more characters. That Kanae was annoying as shit though, and simply not needed. He had absolutely no purpose other than serving as a rival threat and he intruded on too many scenes. Well, i'm biased since i just did the regular game's route as well. I also liked that they removed the worse parts of the route such as her confessing publicly etc for selfish reasons etc, but i guess that's why it was removed. Mangagamer did a bad job with the translation again though, and at least at one point there was missing dialogues. Mangagamer sure as hell need to get their shit together.

They have, since then. DC was one of their very first titles, way back when they didn't even have any overseas representation, more or less.

If they have then it shouldn't be too much to ask that they fix their old games when they sell them at such a stiff price. Sometimes it feels like they used machine translation and went over it afterwards. Some errors are just incredible.

Well, it would still cost a pretty penny. May as well just translate a new game, from their viewpoint. Either way, there are much worse game translations in their back catalogue than Da Capo 1. Some of them have been updated to improve the translation (such as edelweiss and kira kira), some haven't, it all depends on the initial game sales and resulting demand for an update. Da Capo was considered "good enough," I suppose, with not too many people demanding a better translation.

edit: More than money, I suppose that MangaGamer is heavily manpower-blocked right now. They are pretty unwilling to dedicate their precious manpower resources to do retranslations. They are doing this with Higurashi though, for one example. Supposedly the people who bought the awfully translated original versions are getting the retranslations as a free update (but no other features of the new releases).

The "I don't mind if you cheat on me, just make sure i don't find out" stuff was too much of a character warp. It's a shitty continuation.

I guess it's Japanese's version of "open relationship". Happens all the time irl too. It was like a feeble attempt to please those who are into NTR/Adultery as well as nukige as that freaking route was all sex, sex, sex, smash, smash, smash... As a NTR/Adultery fan, I personally would give Love EX P a 3/10.

Well, ntr fan or not. This has been a true love story, and did not need that crap for it's final installment. This should have been about them getting married and having a child which has been the talk for a while, but suddenly out of the question for reasons unknown. It's generally a bad continuation that ignores too much of the main and side stories. Since when did Kotori's sister give birth to a daughter? I'm pretty damn sure it was a boy.
