cryofrzd Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 (edited) As I've got quite a few questions about problems with Visual Novel Reader and most of them are about the same errors I'd like to list how to fix them once for all. As I'm lazy I'll just post the most common one today, and if there are other problems feel free to ask. Wrong text is captured like this: Fix: Open "Text Settings" under "Menu" in the left-hand menu Hopefully there is one correct text in one of the text-boxes (get some more text to be sure by clicking in the game), if so set it as "dialog" and "Save" If not try change Text encoding to see if it generates a correct text Not that lucky? Then we have to get the /h code with ITH Quit Visual Novel Reader (right click on springboard, choose "Quit") open up the game and ITH and in it open "Process", choose the game process, click "Attach" and then "OK" Get some text from the game, inspect the text from the text-hooks through pull-down menu and look for a correct one Open "Hook" click "Generate Code" and copy the /H code that appears Get back to Visual Novel Reader and its "Text Settings" window, click "Edit /H Hook Code", paste it, save and voila! If this does not work, try updating Visual Novel Reader and ITH, and in worst case it requires some debugging of the game to get the text-hook manually. How to get furigana a.k.a. install dictionaries: Fix: Right click on spring board, open Preferences, under "Dictionaries" install a dictionary if not already installed Under "Translation" activate the dictionary that is installed under "Preferred Japanese phrase dictionaries" and set last thing to "Hiragana" Check that in the right-hand menu under "Option" that "Game text" is selected I want personal game-specific dictionary like in Translation Aggregator: Open the "Shared dictionaries" in right menu -> Preferences Add a dictionary entry, set it Private if you don't want to share it, and set it Series-specific if it's some name you want it just for that VN Edited May 15, 2014 by cryofrzd Quote
Hoshizora Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 There seems to be a problem with mine. It won't update or login correctly. I've tried running it with administrator privileges but still no luck. Also, it won't let me add new games to my springboard (not sure if the two problems are related) Quote
SpaceHamster Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Hey guys, I have a problem with the way VNR is showing the text, for example: https://i.imgur.com/7bbsPtz.png http://i.imgur.com/BqGzyMS.png The text seems to very small, it wasn't this way before when I first started using it but when I opened up gameboard and started browsing there my text size for the interface and UI became infinitely small; while the translation boxes for the game are just fine as they were before. Anyone have a solution to this problem? Edit: Also, as I was testing my settings I clicked the 'hide' button on my translation text and now I don't know how to make it unhide or reappear again, someone want to help me out with that as well? Edit2: I fixed the problem by deleting the registery, no help needed for now. RavenFelman 1 Quote

cryofrzd Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 I think it's the "pause" button in the left-hand overlay menu. It appears when you hoover in the middle of the left-hand border of the screen in full-screen or the game-window. Click "pause" once and all VNR overlay translations hide, and click once more and they appear again. Also to set the text-size click "Option" on the same panel and drag the zoom up some. Good luck Quote

cryofrzd Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 Doesn't changing the Zoom solve it? This can't be too small, and is maximum zoom for me. Quote

The text of the game subtitles is all right, everything else is small like the springboard and the others pages, like the first problem SpaceHamster write... Quote
cryofrzd Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 Screenshot? The size of the user-interface should comply with the computer resolution setting. Looking at SpaceHamster's screenshots a weird font/type-face is set as default. Quote

cryofrzd Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 Try updating first. Try restoring the system default font settings: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-your-font-settings Restart VNR for changes to take effect. If that doesn't work: I don't know, I've checked the register keys and values for VNR and didn't find any suspicious one to change the font. Try reinstalling VNR. If VNR against all odds would save it's settings through the reinstall: Manually delete VNR, remove it's register keys/values: start->type "regedit" run that program go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER / Software / sakuradite.org right click "delete" Then install VNR again. Hope this does it. Quote

cryofrzd Posted March 29, 2015 Author Posted March 29, 2015 I don't use machine translation, it's infeasible with current technology and knowledge. I use VNR to get the furigana (sound pronunciation) on kanji I don't recognise. Quote
