I'm not sure if this belongs here since it's more of a question than a problem, but I was wondering, did anyone ever attempt text-hooking a PS2 game running through an emulator?

I've always assumed you can't, but then again, I have absolutely no clue how this all works.

Well, technically its possible, since fundamentally its same as any other program — there's text data encoded in sjis/unicode, and there's some function which renders text into image. But since there's also emulation layer above, you'd need to write hooker specifically for particular emulation software, and obviously you would need hook codes for individual games.

But realistically, you'd need someone who knows guts of particular emulator and how code of original platform works, which is quite different from x86 most of us are used to, so chances of such hooker being ever created are pretty slim.

I see. That clears things up, thanks. :) I suppose we can just rule this out then, I doubt there is someone with so much free time (and knowledge) to do something this specific.
