Vokoca Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I'm not sure if this belongs here since it's more of a question than a problem, but I was wondering, did anyone ever attempt text-hooking a PS2 game running through an emulator? I've always assumed you can't, but then again, I have absolutely no clue how this all works. Quote
zoom909 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Only if the text-hooker is built into the emulator itself. Because it's a virtual machine, AGTH and ITH can't get to the text. Quote
RusAnon Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Well, technically its possible, since fundamentally its same as any other program — there's text data encoded in sjis/unicode, and there's some function which renders text into image. But since there's also emulation layer above, you'd need to write hooker specifically for particular emulation software, and obviously you would need hook codes for individual games. But realistically, you'd need someone who knows guts of particular emulator and how code of original platform works, which is quite different from x86 most of us are used to, so chances of such hooker being ever created are pretty slim. Vokoca Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 I see. That clears things up, thanks. I suppose we can just rule this out then, I doubt there is someone with so much free time (and knowledge) to do something this specific. Quote
fun2novel Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Hey, never say never. It is actually something I would love to see happening there are so many console exclusives out there Quote
