Nosebleed Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Welcome to Fuwanovel's Love Live School Idol Festival Thread I've been playing this game for a while and I was wondering if anyone else shared the same hobby. And of course I want to see if I could get some newcomers into it. School Idol Festival is a free to play mobile rythm game based off of the Love Live franchise. It has unlockable original stories fully voiced by the original VAs from the anime (visual novel style) as well as card collecting features and quite the addictive gameplay I daresay. There's plenty of songs to unlock as well as special events from time to time. It's pretty fun. This thread is for discussing the game itself and whatever you feel like sharing related to Love Live. Share the cards you collected, your game scores and rankings, comments on the story, favorite songs etc. You can also ask for advice about the game and share suggestions and I guess add people because yay friendship. The game is available in English for free on Android as well as iOS if you're interested. The japanese version is also available for Android and iOS Note the japanese version has more content since it's been out for longer. There is a Wiki page dedicated to Love Live SIF with all the useful info if you might ever need:Love Live School Idol Festival Wiki If you want help with practice there are practice videos on youtube to get all the details of every song down. There's also a practice app if you don't want to waste LP practicing songs. (Android Only) What are you doing here? Kotori's name is the next clue, search it up.User IDsEnglish version (Currently Outdated): Abernite - ID: 867586782 Aez Racer - 565572064 Alex (Exteminator) - 930250767 cloudy12 - 303868371 CLuBLioN - 063955407 Ceris - 776023364 Chibi-chan - 297438394 Earthes (Jade) - 371079575 Eclipsed - 199707075 Ezeefreak - 412525342 Gavissimo (Gavisi) - 153876355 Hoshii (arakura) - 539866513 Heizei (heizei_kokousei) - 059349997 jeftai - 606043846 JkR - 070649210 InSoulFallen- 968727281 Kaguya - 487696185 Kuroba- 044722215 Maki~chan - 158426702 Narcosis (IceD) - 280630677 マニア (mania) - 672173192 merc (XDarkmercX) - 529746994 Nosebleed - 795036881 Praeliator - 436991704 Shero - 130613783 Sylvian (Aregon) - 671838959 SoulJustIn-029808485 Tyrael - 783560766 Yoki - 495878944 Zehel - 650143515 Inactive users (haven't logged on for over 30 days) Spoiler Aldred - 368321636 Blizzard884 - 166279455 Crunchy (crunchytaco) - 030528476 Cynthar - 563371869 - 61 days ago Kudryavka (Gregorirori) - 801639235 メフィスト (Mephisto) - 259055396 Niyuki (Yukiru) - 393032551 Ryuji (Omg A-Bear) - 342987095 Xisashi - 305789694 Zakamutt - 862082393 LLucas (Amagami) - 298644642 Pancakes (Baconpancake) - 589569673 Pierrot (phoenixfyre2552) - 125687510 Fuwa user is in brackets for those with different in game names. zoom909 Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Well I really liked the anime so I guess I should give it a go. Need to try and find out where my tablet is, dust it off, recharge it, see if it still works, etc. Quote
FruitsPunchSamurai Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 I've been getting into this recently as well, it's something fun to play when I'm bored or need something to do. Quote
Zakamutt Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 I'm currently in MAXIMUMISH OBSESSION MODE for the Kotori event, hopefully I can get 11k event points for the SR without spending love gems (calculated to bring ~250 EP each and yes I calced a lot of shit out.) All hards except event song FCd, fc on that one is very close as a last second fuckup made me lose combo at 13 hits left. I'll (maybe) get my friend code later, my center for main formation is SR Hanayo so I might actually be useful this event. I can probably drop one or two people who don't have SR centers themselves, lol. I wish the side stories were longer than five to seven lines. I also wish I'd gotten the one where Umi says will you marry me or something similar already because she is my favorite. I don't and prolly won't watch the anime Quote
Nosebleed Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Uuuh i hate myself for having lost all my progress. Not even sure if i'm going to try hard for the Kotori event. Maybe if there's a Maki one featuring BiBi songs~ Go watch the anime Zaka there's plenty of Umi there. Umi is the source of my favorite pun of all time Honoka: Umi dah! Umi: Eh? Nani? Honoka: So janai Umi dah! *points at sea* They used this joke in both season too. I'm so lame. Quote

InvertMouse Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 The Love Live! anime has been enjoyable. I've tried out the game on iPad several weeks back. Unfortunately, I dropped it after one session, though it's as much due to lack of time as anything else. I was really confused by all the cards and systems the game threw at me right off the bat. Since I watch the anime, I wanted to hang out with the girls from that show. Instead, I got cards featuring a bunch of other random girls. That left me really puzzled . You can level up the cards or something? I saw a bunch of pop ups with microtransaction ads on the side. That's just not too cool for me (>-<). I've always felt uneasy about microtransactions. As soon as I hear it's free to play, I worry that the game will be designed to push, or outright force you into buying stuff. It's Skinner Box business. For a lot of Japanese games, they combine microtransactions with random draws. You could potentially spend money just to end up with a bunch of repeats. Those are gambling patterns. I'm just not into it. The rhythm game aspect was fun, though. Those chapter by chapter stories sound intriguing, too, though they unfortunately started off really flat. I never got far enough to know if they get better. By the way, I chose Kotori as the lead because she's the cutest guys (>w<). Quote
Nosebleed Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 The system is actually simpler than it looks though the English vocabulary they used is a little annoying. But honestly you learn it in a day, it's nothing big. Let me try to explain. Think of the girls as cards. That's what they are really. There are 4 levels of cards. Normal (N) Rare ( R) Super Rare (SR) Ultra Rare (UR) Obviously the higher the rarity the bigger bonus they give you like abilities to boost your scores in lives, etc. They also usually tend to have cuter art. These are regarding the u's members. Now you'll notice there's more random girls here and there. Think of them as canon fodder (i do). Their skills are usually low and they don't have special abilities. Their best purpose is to be sacrificed to level up your rarer cards. They are earned all the time through lives and scouting so only focus on leveling them up when you've leveled up the rest. Of course as the name implies rare cards are hard to get and don't even get me started on how hard it is to get an UR. How do you get them, there's 2 ways 1 is regular scouting. Regular scouting usually gives you one of the normal girls but it has a chance of giving you rares too. You spend friend points on normal scouting. Friend points are obtained in game. The 2nd method is by special scouting which will always guarantee you at least a rare card and it can only go up from there. Special scouting or honor student scouting as they call it costs love gems. Love gems are harder to earn in game, they're earned by completing goals mostly or by buying them but that's expensive. I also suggest you save up 50 of them because that 1 extra rare card is a big deal. Now onto leveling up there's 2 leveling systems. Regular and special practice. In regular practice you select the card you want to level up and then select the sacrifices, this is when having a lot of useless canon fodder comes in hand. This practice raises the card's skills. Special practice means combining cards, you combine 2 of the same cards to get a new version of that girl that has her level cap raised so if a card could only go up to lvl 40 it can now go up to 60. That's the jist of it. Mind you if you had a previously leveled up card and want to combine it make sure you select it first so you don't lose any levels. Cards can also only be combined once. And last but not least, attributes. There's 3 different attributes the cards have (smile, cool and another i forgot) and those attributes are tied to the songs so if a song has the smile attribute (the pink one) the more girls you have with a high smile attribute the higher you'll score and the more exp you gain. Same thing for the other attributes. There's an option to auto generate a unit, based on all the cards you have with the attribute you selected, it'll basically generate the best possible team with that attribute. That's what i do to save me the trouble. That's the basic mechanics of the game really Level up, complete goals, unlock story and songs. And collect all the cards~ I'll give this a shot while I finish my Love Live anime download. Well, that was something else.Top level comedy. Laugh pls. Ksiyas 1 Quote
Zakamutt Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 The story segments explain some of the rhythm game things Quote
Railingue Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 This seems quite nice, I was looking for a phone game so this should be perfect ! I usually love music related game so I'll give it a try too ! Quote
Ceris Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 I've just downloaded and started with Rin, my favorite Love Live girl, but am confused by a post above. Should I bother leveling up the girls I started with? And I didnt really get what leveling up even did.. Quote
Nosebleed Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 You can level up the other girls but it's wiser to level up your rares first because they have abilities and they have higher skill points. In this case, make sure you max out your Rin first. When you don't have any other rares to level up then sure level up your other girls in your team so they can gain more skill too so you can get higher scores. I always call the other girls sacrifices It's also wise to have their idolized version in your team because their level cap is raised so you can level them up more so make sure you idolize the girls in your team whenever you can. Leveling up raises their stats pretty much. Quote
Zakamutt Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 First of all, build as strong a team for each color / attribute as possible. In general, before sacrificing anyone through practice, make sure to use auto-formation to preserve the highest attribute members on your team. Only use a member for practice once you aready have its idolized version - which you get from special practice. Up that character's bond for a love gem, rinse and repeat for a while to save up for the 50 lovegem draw - putting it as the team leader for a while seems to increase the bond points gained for a while. Personally I want to catch them all when it comes to the idolized non-rare members, and there are good reasons for this: there a achievement thingies iving you goodies for getting x number of idolized characters to max level. If you have maxed both the bond and level of an idolized character (note: technically a member name. You won't get more of you max-level two of the same character. If you get four of those shitty Christinas, only fuse two with special practice, then sacrifice the rest to the gods with the force of a thousand suns), there is nothing to lose from sacrificing it as long as your team doesn't need it. Otherwise, you might as well keep it. The favorite button in the member list helps here. Right now though, what you want to do is grind out a good Pure team and fuck anything else and try to get as many event points as possible for the kotori love stuff. You won't be able to get that much due to your late start, but you will get something. Quote
Nosebleed Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 First of all, build as strong a team for each color / attribute as possible. In general, before sacrificing anyone through practice, make sure to use auto-formation to preserve the highest attribute members on your team. This a thousand times. If you want to get S ranks and experience you need this. Zaka you can max out a card and still idolize them later (if you don't have the same card to idolize them right now). The first card that you use on the slot will retain its experience, the second one is the one that disappears. I tested~ The only thing idolizing does to a card is raise the level cap, it doesn't increase any stats, but of course with a level cap raised you can level up your skills more. The center gains more bond than the rest indeed. I think they say it in the tutorial at some point. It's all about matching the team's attribute to the song's attribute for maximum otpimization~ Fun fact: I was making a smile attribute team and the game automatically put Maki and Nico next side each other despite Maki not even being of the smile attribute. I fanboyed a lot <3 Quote
Zakamutt Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 The point of idolizing every member once quickly is grinding out the side stories for love gems (so you can do that sweet, sweet 50 gem draw) while your stats are still shit anyway and you haven't got enough of the good side members (differences between best and worst are around ~900 attribute points.) Once you get the 1.8/1.9k attribute members you can level those to 10, then idolize once you get a superfluous copy of the member (so when you have the optimal team sidememberwise and one more of that card) and level to 20. I think the best normal green is Ru Tatara and red is Kasane Hasekura. Levels are preserved if you pick them first for special practice, I know, might have oversimplified to avoid tldr. Before the 50 gem draw prioritize your initial rare more, after that you won't have many new rares for a while and any remaining slots filled by side members might as well get maxed. The auto-formation thing can be improved upon, btw. Tl;dr if you hit a circle occupying that spot and the member matches the song attribute you get a bit more points. For hards there are even statistics on circle distribution on the wikis. You might also notice that highest attribute gets to be center, then the rest are ordered left to right from the strongest to the weakest Quote
Nosebleed Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Well yeah idolizing them is nice for the side stories though they only give you 1 love gem which is a pity. I never reached the 50 gem draw because I had to reset, I had like 31 gems at the time. But once you idolize them for the first time and unlock their side story by maxing their bond it's pretty useless to idolize them again unless you have notihng else to do with the cards so you can raise their max level. That's the way I see it at least. I should read the wiki to maximize that now that you mention it. Though that's just being extremly picky at this point. Quote
suikashoujo Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I've been playing this app obsessively since it came out, and I'm planning to start the anime tonight or tomorrow because of it. I'm probably going to create a few new teams so that I have one for each attribute, but right now I have a team built out of one of each of the members from the show (so all rares and super-rares), so it'll be sad to split them up. Quote
Nosebleed Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 I have 1 team with my personal favorites only that I use for the lulz. And 3 teams optimized for each attribute for maximum exp grinding. Uuuh I'll never get my Maki Rare again.. *sulk* Quote
Zakamutt Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 https://twitter.com/zakamutt/status/474356266887028737 yay I actually got a green rare and I still haven't finished leveling it now, only 1 non-green left in my event-rape team Quote
Nosebleed Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 Would you say it's better to do normal drawings 10 girls at a time or do you just waste your friend points away whenever? I feel like when I do 10 it has a higher chance of giving me a Rare. Quote

And seems I am going to have to do research later on to maximize score. So the auto-formation just places them greatest to least form center out, even though that's not the "best" formation for ever song?Played for a while and am currently Rank 15 but ran out of LP before I could level so I'm waiting for that to recharge. I maxed my Rin rare (unidolized), and after completing songs, got enough Friend Points to do several large scouts, and ended up getting a Pure attribute Umi and a Cool attribute Nico, then got a free Honor Student Scouting Pass, and ended up with a Pure attribute Nico. I got these pretty recently so I haven't had enough "sacrifices" to raise their levels so Umi's 27, Cool Nico is 15, and haven't touched Pure Nico yet. Oh, and I have 14 idolized normals so far. Quote
Nosebleed Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 Update: Just got a Honoka and Rin rares with smile attribute one through normal and one through special scouting! I swear smile attribute loves me.. On the other hand my smile attribute team is OP I started with Nico so i have 3 smile rares Update of the update: Holy crap another smile atribute rare through regular scouting. This time it's Umi AND a cool attribute Nico. It's beautiful<3 Nico nico nii~ And thanks for this, definitely saving all for the 50 gem draw as opposed to spending on the 5 gem draw. And seems I am going to have to do research later on to maximize score. So the auto-formation just places them greatest to least form center out, even though that's not the "best" formation for ever song? The game just puts the best in the center by default, it can't really calculate what's the best for every song. If you want you have to do that yourself, I just leave it to the game to decide honestly. The difference in experience you'll get by arranging the team by song is pretty small and not worth the effort or re arranging every time. Non fun fact: I discovered that I could have been smart and recovered my previous data if I had my data transfer code but I was dumb and didn't check that out before resetting. I was rank 19 and had an Idolized maxed out Smile Nico and a maxed out Pure attribute Maki and all the other girls were idolized at least once already. And I got that Maki on regular scouting so the chances of this happening again are microscopic. You have no idea how discouraged I was from playing SIF again after this incident. But I'll pull through with my passion for Love Live~ Quote
Zakamutt Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I think rare rate from scouting actually drops when you have a certain amount. This is just a suspicion, but I've had damn few recently. Might just be paranoia, though. Interestingly, there was some talk of your ranking in something affecting your chances of gettign a rare, was a namefag (with trip) on 4chan /jp/ tho Quote
Nosebleed Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 Don't think so, on my previous game i had 2 rares from scouting only and i was rank 19. Now i'm rank 13 and i got 4 rares in a single day, 3 from normal scouting. Either i'm super lucky or it's just the statistics really. Though it's perfectly fine to be paranoid when you don't get any. In fact i think this is their intention. Well. Ran out of LP. Time to sleep for now. Quote
