Playah168 Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 I don't know if I should be posting/writing this somewhere else, but I am unable to open .torrent's and would like to if there is a specific way to download them, or if I need a certain program. Also I am pretty bad with computers so please tell me if I need to do anything aside from just downloading some torrent reading thing. And if you can tell me, what does changing your system locale to Japan do? I read the page on fuwanovel about it but didn't know what it would do, or if it was actually necessary. Thanks in advance. =) Quote
Flutterz Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 To open .torrent files you need a torrent client, most people use http://www.bittorrent.com/ or http://www.utorrent.com/ . As for changing the locale, it changes how some symbols are displayed as far as I remember. It will have little to no effect on anything, except that most visual novels, even if they are translated, won't display properly if you don't change to Japanese locale. Quote
zoom909 Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Yeah, you need a torrent program like micro-torrent (http://www.utorrent.com) Switching system locale changes the language for non-unicode programs. For games written before Unicode, it is necessary to get Japanese characters to show up correctly (because by default it will be trying to display the data as English characters) Quote
Nosebleed Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 You need a torrent client to open .torrent files. There's plenty of clients like uTorrent, BitTorrent, Vuze, etc. Just download one and install it and open the .torrent file with it (usually the file gets automatically associated with the client so you just need to double click the .torrent file). Then make sure all the files are selected to download and press ok and then wait for it to download. The files are usually saved in your downloads folder by default but you can change where they go to before you download them. Changing your locale to japanese doesn't change anything aside from programs that use non-unicode characters which is the case for a lot of vns, hence why it's recommended to use it to avoid issues. You will also sometimes get the yen symbol instead of a backslash. Quote
Playah168 Posted June 20, 2014 Author Posted June 20, 2014 Thanks, and are these games free? Or do you need to buy the cd/dvd in any way? Quote
Flutterz Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 You can buy them, or you can pirate them for free by downloading the .torrent file and opening it in a torrent client. Quote
Playah168 Posted June 20, 2014 Author Posted June 20, 2014 Alright thanks, that's all I need....I think. Quote
