Undying Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 After playing an amazingly good VN have you ever thought "theres something missing here." or " they could have done that better."? After playing a good visual novel theres sometimes i think that they could add some scenes to make the story more emotional or intersting, for instance... Spoilers for fire emblem awakening ending. when the main characters chooses to sacrifice himself to kill the dark dragon they could've add a scene at the final battle with a last goodbye between the main character and the chosen wife and daughter, that part of the ending felt too lackluster for an ending. So, any of you alredy thought that the adition of a scene or dialogue could improve the overall story? Quote
Novel21 Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Yes I have think about that very much. Take Kamidori Alchemy Meister for example in Serawi ending where she is pregnant with proganist child, I wish we could see Serawi and proganist child before ending finish Quote
Clephas Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Mmm... ninety percent of moege could have done with another forty to fifty lines in the epilogue, lol. Other than that... I could have done with a few extra scenes for several of Gurenka's endings (really, that was all that keeps the game off my top twenty VNs). Quote
Life Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 If it was a really good novel... my chest seems to be missing somehow but I think you're talking about something else. Quote
Undying Posted July 31, 2014 Author Posted July 31, 2014 Remember another one, in phantom of inferno all the routes are pretty nice but depending of the route you follow a certain character simply disapear from the game, is like she went shopping and never returned. Quote

I don't know what kind of plot that game has but this is called fading into background which is something I like about visual novels, since that way the plot can focus more on the relevant characters in the chosen route. I recently played one where depending on the choices over half of the heroines may not even be introduced to begin with, though there were like 9 of them in total. Putting in scenes for each would just make it a big mess. Quote

It was not the case in this one, the character in question was living in the same place of the main character and its a least weird the disappearance of the character without some explanation. Quote
Guest Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 CG's and illustrations. Sprites are nice and all but it doesn't convey any emotions. Artworks do. And too often, 90% of the CG's are either hentai or useless. Regarding the story I'd get rid of tons of things rather than adding some ^^ But if I had to add something it would be some kind of after story as mentionned above. And a satisfying conclusion and introduction. It may not seem like it but the intro and the outro of a VN are extremely important. And very often poorly done. I mean ... Characters holding hands in front of a sunset isn't a route conclusion, it's shit. Quote

I always thought that the lack of artworks in VN is something that happened because of the low budget/time that those games had to be released, but maybe im wrong, I dont think that a few more artworks would be all that costly in a project. Clephas Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 I do get tired of the stupid ending scenes... I mean, I like 'ten years down the road' epilogues, not those stupid 'two days after' ones. Hikoukigumo's main heroine had the best epilogue (from marriage to the grave and a bit after) for recent games I've encountered, for instance. However, I was a little disappointed with Semiramis no Tenbin... I wanted to see what Ami and the protag were like after graduation. Quote
InvertMouse Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 Perhaps I wished Narcissu had more CGs. That just makes me hate myself, though . Why am I asking for CGs if I could just use my imagination to create infinitely better visuals? That is the reality, I guess ... Quote

Is there any Vn that cover a long period of time of the main character? I would be intersted in playing one that goes from adolescence to adulthood, would be inetersting to see how the characters grow from the period they are in school from when they star working. Quote
Mephisto Posted July 31, 2014 Posted July 31, 2014 The Ikusa Megami games come immediately to mind when you say that.... not for the faint of heart though. Quote

DawnWolf Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Spoilers for fire emblem awakening when the main characters chooses to sacrifice himself to kill the dark dragon they could've add a scene at the final battle with a last goodbye between the main character and the chosen wife and daughter, that part of the ending felt too lackluster for an ending. Interestingly enough, IF you married Lucina (takes a real bro to marry his best friends daughter) you DO get a scene a little before the final battle between you her and Chrome. Not exactly a goodbye, but it gave the ending good closure for me (I married Lucina first playthrough). Is there any translation project for those games? I actually think Clephas was/is involved with one of the games from the series, but I'm not sure how thats going. At the very least they all have interface patches to my knowledge. Shame cause I'd really like to play them myself without having to dig through a dictionary for hours. OT: Music is the first thing that comes to mind. Like in Tsukihime I got so annoyed by the lack of music (and the lack of variance) that I made my own playlist for the game while going through it. Oh and parents... like seriously how many protags have the eroge setup (dead/vacation/overseas parents) and live alone? One thing I loved about Clannad was the involvement and effect both Nagisa and Tomoya's parents had (or lack thereof). Love to see it in more VNs. Quote

dreamweaver Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 I wish all VNs had a system menu voice. Like GnK and LxC 2 Quote

I was with Lucina, she is the best followed closely by Tarja, but the scene at the ending still is lacking, if you compare with the scene were Lucina try to... you know what... the ending should have something at that level of emotion. Vokoca Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Satisfying conclusions, I suppose. I'm not even going to bring up moege since most of those almost don't even have what could be called an ending, but if a heavily story-based VN suffers from a bad ending, it ruins the whole thing for me. The VN that comes to mind first is MLA.If you're going to take it slow the whole VN, just please don't rush the ending... Quote

This is something I'll never get in VN and anime, they waste numerous hours/episodes in random stuff and ehn it comes to the ending the whole thing looks rushed. Quote
