My general strategy with VNs is to play a route all the way through, then continue with another route only long afterward, perhaps a year or so. This makes the common route more enjoyable when I return. But if I decide, for whatever reason, to finish the VN as much as I desire without taking a break, I'll most probably skip the common route.

I usually make use of the skip command as it has a setting to skip already read text. Meaning that once I make a different choice, it stops skipping, I read again and keep reading till I feel I've seen it again. Hit skip and see how much I have already read.

If I took a break between routes, I'd just re-read, but considering some common routes are 35 hours long, can't really re-read for 6 routes :)

You can use saves as choice checkpoints too. So you can save at first choice, the make a save at second choice option 1 and another save at second choice option 2, etc.

I've usually used the walkthrough to save at key points so that I can get back on a path as quickly as possible.  I read the text I haven't read yet then skip the rest.  No reason to reread the entire thing to get at the next path...

As i said earlier I skip read text, however I don't load at checkpoints, I prefer to always start from the beginning, some VNs prefer that so I became paranoid and I always do that now.

Paranoid, that's the right word for me. Some visual novels enjoy adding 1 flipping line that makes no sodding difference and yet I can't afford to skip over them, so I always start from the beginning with 'skip read'.

Yep, exactly like me.

The character that interests me the most.

Little Busters! Went straight for ... man what was her name? The girl with black hair, open busts. Physically strong and smart.

Clannad - Went for Tomoyo's arc first then Kyou. I loved both. Kyou was short ... Tomoyo was also short but thanks to the installment "It's a Wonderful Life" though I'm eagerly waiting for the EX edition to release for the full voiced version with extra scenes.

Grisaia - Amane, Yumiko, Michiru, Sachi, Makina.

Muv-Luv EXTRA: Meiya then Sumika. Didn't like Sumika so much back then. I do now. Same thing for Muv-Luv Altered Fable, Meiya first.

Uh ... what else .. I think .. that's it for now? I hope Angel's Beats have some real art and backgrounds ... I'm not a fan of Key's art at all (such bad anatomy makes me puke, haven't played ReWrite so can't comment on that one). I'm unsure who to actually go for in Angels' Beats first. Probably that dimwit pink hair loli chick with the baseball scene. Forgot her name.

After the first Route (what in the most cases is a Route, which I choose with powerful prejudices, to select the "best" one ;) ) I usually skip read text in the next Routes. But the last one I normally read completely , with the common Route. The last One is either the True Route or a special one which i hold back for the end (without prejudices, based on the experience till then ;) ).

Thats my usual behavior... I'm not ablte to take a break from a VN, whether good or bad. I have to finish what I started. It's like a OCD to me :D

I go back to the choices that branch off into the routes and read through everything I haven't already. The first route I get into I always do according to what I would do in real life. Other routes give much more of the story to me and they are worth reading If I like where the VN is going.

It varies for me.
sometimes, especially if there's a long common route, I'll use the skip button but other times when i really like what's in the common route and it's a little shorter I'll read through the whole thing.
