Nagisa_Fawkes Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Welcome to Fuwa, AKA Promised Loli Land! Have a loli: I'll recommend something, but you shouldn't start with it, keep it in mind for the future. It's Umineko no Naku Koro ni. Hope you have fun and I'll see you around. Quote

Ceris Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Wait.. how did that quote not work?Anyway, welcome to the site and hopefully you will enjoy visual novels~ Rewrite was the first visual novel I read that I hadn't seen an anime to first, and it has become one of my favorite things ever. Heizei_koukousei Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Hello and welcome to the fun land of Fuwa Rewrite is a pretty long visual novel to start off with but it definitely is a good read. Actually anything made by Key is good for a first VN Enjoy your stay~ Quote
Life Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Welcome to the party! I hope you enjoy rewrite but it may be a little long for a first visual novel. Anyway, have fun discussing anything with us. Kyoroto 1 Quote

nohman Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Welcome to the community, Kyoroto. I would recommend you play G-senjou no Maou. It was my first visual novel and the one that got me interested in visual novels as a medium. Kyoroto 1 Quote
havoc Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 Hello there, Since you have not read any vn's yet i will recommend a few if i may. Fate/stay night is a must play. It is nothing like the anime thing that carries its name. Hopefully it wil finally have the unlimited blade works route adapted next season. And we just have a new patch that has translated the realta nua version of the game. (wich is an all ages game so it does away with the H stuff and replaces it by something else) http://vndb.org/v11 Tsukihime Another must play, and no this one does not have a anime adaption. http://vndb.org/v7 (it is ancient, got no voice and no music. But it is so good) Muv Luv series, now Muv Luv extra is not that good and Unlimited is merely good but alternative is definitly a must read and to understand it completely you need to have read these two first. (I so hope muv luv alternative get's an anime adaption at some point) http://vndb.org/v93 (extra/unlimited) yes they are packed into one game http://vndb.org/v92 (alternative) g senjou maou Is also a must read. http://vndb.org/v211 Other than that there is Grisaia no Kajitsu wich is also a must read. http://vndb.org/v5154 See the vnd links for more info on the vn's. And check out the ranking it is a decent indication of what as worth your while assuming enough fotes have been cast. Of course that does not take personal preference into accoun't Hope you enjoy them And it has been a while since I have seen anyone new here that has not yet read any vn's. gives me a good excuse to give to many recommendations and blabber on If you check them out could you let me know what you think about them? Ceris Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 My first two visual novels I made significant progress in were Little Busters and Rewrite, I don't really feel length is too much of an issue for a first VN I gave this a little more thought and realized I didn't mind the super length for my first VNs because I thoroughly enjoyed both, to the point of marathoning entire routes in one sitting. Things are different if you don't like the material as much, then shorter would definitely be better. Anyway, surprised the few introduction threads I pop in to, people never recommend Symphonic Rain. Any reason for that? I loved it personally. Quote

Anyway, surprised the few introduction threads I pop in to, people never recommend Symphonic Rain. Any reason for that? I loved it personally. It is a good vn (i think have not yet read it but will at some point), but people tend to recommend the very best when someone comes along that has yet to play a vn. And ask yourself this, is it not mandatory to have played one type moon and one key vn in your first 10 vn's? Quote
arakura Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 *reading intro* *reading intro* *... hasnt read a vn yet* *gasp* *opportunity spotted, engage power thrusters to response sector* READ TSUKIHIME! oh and welcome welcome!!! I hope you enjoy it here a fourth as much as you'll enjoy Tsukihime. What an opportunity this is! Sadly, many others have put their finest foots (feet?) forth with suggestions of their own! A field of pretty flower this is, isnt it? Anyway, make sure to be nice and have fun and talk to strangers cause they're pretty nice round these parts Quote

But if a type moon vn is not in your first 5 vn's you are doing something wrong. As for me fate/stay night was my second vn and tsukihime my third. Koihime musou was my first. it was good but nowhere near as good as the ones i sugested. (but you know power of nostalgia is stronk) Quote

It seems like most VNs have multiple routes, but would it be less fun if i use walkthrough? It ultimately comes down to personal preference. A lot of people like to have their first playthrough as a 'pure' experience and then they move onto using a walkthrough. That's not something that does much for me in terms of adding to my enjoyment, so I personally just find a commonly agreed upon route order and use a walkthrough.Certain games (Things like C;H and F/SN) it will be unavoidable to use a walkthrough on if you want to see everything and not waste your time trying to figure it out. EDIT: Some words. Quote

What this guys says. Personally i will always use a walkthrough because i am not that good with bad endings. And some vn's have a lot of bad endings wich in some cases is not that bad like fate/ stay night. Generally if you get a bad ending in fate you made a rather stupid choise. (but dont forget to sometimes save before a bad choise and choose it before reloading back a save some bad choices dont lead directly to bad endings but lead to positively hilarious scenes. But these choices can cause a bad ending later on if you make to many of them.) Quote

If you for example make a choice and take the path to the first route on your first playthrough.Dont you have to repeat everything on your 2nd playthrough till you can make the choice for another route. Visual novels usually have an option to skip already read text or even skip to the next choice in some cases. You can also be prudent and make save files at certain flags/triggers/choices so you don't have to go back and do all that. Quote

Ask away most of us love to answer such questions anyway so don't feel sorry. On a random note have a laugh. This one is not vn related though.
